2010-2012 Ram question

My left knee hurts a lot and my wife can't drive a stick so I'm thinking of switching to a 10-12 CTD... and no newer. I've been reading a lot and I was told the 12 has an IBC that works with hydraulics. Is 12 the only one of the 10-12s that have that IBC?
I'll be truck shopping while in Az for the winter.
TIA! Craig

I'm thinking no newer than 12 because I can do deletes and tuning. My 03 is already plenty of truck for my 15K and 18K trailers so any 4th gen dually should be great. The Aisin trucks are RARE and the tuned 68RFEs sound plenty appealing to me. Craig

You'll be good with a deleted truck as long as you install a very mild tune to deal with the deleted hardware.

Folks it's the new and improved "FISH" responding to a RAM thread. :B

I owned a 11 HO Dually for 65K, oil samples came back with no fuel. Brake controller was about as good as the POS P-2. I highly advise getting a 12 as the brake controller works great.

Having owned a 15 for 45K it has also been trouble free.

Not new but stating facts as usual.... Most 6.7 cummins powered hot shot trucks I see are deleted.

BTW... 45k miles doesn't say a lot. :B

How many miles has your mighty Powerstroke run down the road at close to 38,000#?

I only tow a measly 33-35K combined. I think it would have broke when I towed miles of 14 percent up and down grades. I think most would agree that if I were to have issues they would pop up before now.

My bad, misread your siggy.

I bought a 12 CCLB 3.73 4wd dually for the better IBC and other 12 improvements. It's been very well maintained and I saved some bucks. It came from Wi. but there's no rust. I doubt if I will be RVing for more than 5 more years or so. The 12 is fully deleted/custom tuned with the Edge monitor and B/U camera. I talked to a hotrodder with a 760hp 12 with 68rfe and nothing but a valve body in the trans. I will be very happy if it runs at least as good as my 03 and my left knee will be much happier. I fly to PHX Sat. evening and I'll drive it back from Cave Creek. I already have an appointment at Trinidad to look at hauler beds.

Congrats on the new ride.

The same power train in the CC 4x4 DRW with 3.42 gears is rated to tow 20,510 in 2015 models+/-. So it is not the 3.42 gears that limit the SRW to 17K+/-. Like all SRW trucks it is the RGAWR.

I tow a 16K 5th wheel with a combined weight of 24,500 pounds just fine. Truck it's self is loaded better heavy with Demco picture frame, manual slider, golf clubs, tools, extra fuel, generator etc.

+1. SRW 3500 w/ Aisin auto is a tow beast that makes no compromises for daily driving.

Can the SRW 4x4 tow 17k-19k?

I tow 21K with mine every time it's hooked to my RV. 2nd to 3rd shifts are a little rough sometimes but it tows it effortlessly.

Yes rated for 17k, 200 pounds either way depending on configuration. Payload ranges from 3.8k to 4.5k on the SRW 3500 diesels.

3.42s as other poster stated only option for SRWs but the Aisin has a VERY low 1st gear so will get just about anything moving (I have a tandem dually axle Big Tex I used to put a big backhoe & skid steer on to move around sites...private roads so the weight police can relax!)

I loved my 2016 and will be ordering the same spec again once I get the right price for a 2018 Ram. The Cummins/Aisin is such a great tow rig.

My truck is rated to tow 17k, I have 3.8k as payload. However, all SRW's are geared at 3.42, so that's their limiting disadvantage. but that's the manufacturer rating.

you can also check out RAM's Towing Guide to take a look at the HD trucks tow ratings and payloads. They really haven't changed that much since 2013.
