The authority of FL State officials stops at the border of the State. They have no power to regulate interstate commerce. AFAIK, the airlines have lowered fares as a gesture of support for those wishing to evacuate. Amazon shipping fees are controlled by Amazon and it's vendors.

I would like to know the authority the Gov has to demand such a thing from private motel owners?

It's called compassion and common sense.
Sad comment on society when it has to be forced on you.

The Gov can ask, but he can't order motel owners to accept pets.
Airlines are regulated by the Feds.
The AG can prosecute after the fact.

I can find no source for the statements made concerning the Governor or AG of FL.
There is no law that the Gov could invoke that could force the motels to do that and the AG can not tell the airlines anything about fares that is strictly a federal call.
There were statements issued by Jet Blue and American that they were voluntarily capping all flights at $99 but this was not a government edict.
If there is price gouging then the AG can act on that but that has to proven in court not the media.

When in doubt, Snopes.com it out. According to Snopes, this is mostly a false claim: snopes.com article.

I for one would not stay in a hotel that accepts pets or has accepted pets in the past.

It might depend on the "powers" given to the Gov. by the "State of Emergency" proclamation. This type of proclamation often gives authorities power to act if deemed to be a public safety issue.

Those powers typically allow cutting red-tape ... like need to do an excavation to relieve flooding, you can skip the birds and bugs impact study. need to shut down six lanes of an expressway to allow for wrong-direction traffic, just sign on the line. It also enables Federal reimbursement for emergency efforts done at the State or Local level... like renting back-hoes and water tanker trucks, paying for first-responder over-time, etc

Stated on the news here yesterday that Delta was charging $399 for flights out of Fla. and Jet Blue was $99.00.
I think this is just a false post. Ive seen or found nothing to back up any of it.

Nope. At the federal level, the Constitution allows certain things during an emergency, such as suspending habeas corpus. The Florida Constitution also allows certain things. The power to allow the governor to "ORDER" people to do things is not one.

And, if not the governor, who exactly do you think is proclaiming a state of emergency and giving the governor powers?

That was the charge for all the "full" flights. In a prior life, I owned a service station. When the gas shortage hit, and we ran out of gas, we lowered the price to 1 cent a gallon. When you are out, you can charge as little as you want. [emoticon]
