Many people couldn't imagine leaving their pet behind to ride out the rising waters alone, but apparently not everyone feels that way.

Not just that but also the gators are seeking higher ground which puts these pets in danger of being attacked and eaten.

I know with Katrina many of those decisions were made because shelters refused to take animals. Most FEMA state and local agencies have changed to allow certain shelters to allow pets.

No excuses, IMO

I don't understand your statement. [emoticon] I have been all over Texas.
Could you explain?

Lots of sources about stray and abused dogs in Texas. I was looking at property near Humble with black top street with a dog smashed in the street with blood running out. I dont know if it was their dog but people were sitting outside in front of the house didnt seemed bothered. There are often dogs left loose laying out in the street or chasing cars.

We also looked around Livingston and found it common for a pack of dogs to come running out when driving past properties. Also common around Bedias.

I went down to the SW side of Houston to look at a motorcycle and got off track hear Hobby(?) airport East of 45 where I shouldn't have been and drove past two packs of large dogs.

The numbers for places like Houston may be exaggerated but there are a lot in the rural areas. My son has been down there about 10 years and said he sees it a lot and his city recently sent out a notice about it being an increasing problem. He has 2 acres and fenced it along with an electric gate opener primarily for that problem. We also ran across it a lot in Tenn.

When I was a kid in Mich it was common for people to keep dogs outside and it wasn't unusual for dogs to get run over. Our dogs are pretty much like our kids but it's not true for all people. In fact it's still far different for some people in some areas.

Thanks for the reply. I guess I just never looked for dogs running around. I will be staying/crossing Texas again in November. I will make note of the dogs I see.

To do something that stupid they were looking at dumb in the rear view mirror. They were far beyond dumb. Very far.

They are part of the family, would you leave the kids? No and not pets they depend on their owners.
