RE: water heater anode rod

It all depends on water quality and the quantity used. I replace when it is about half depleted or the wire looks weak near the fitting. This is a good method. According to Suburban you should drain the heater when not in use, so plenty of opportunities to check it. The rods are cheap as is teflon tape around the threads, and I suppose Suburban has a good reason for using them in their water heaters.

RE: Building RV park near McKinney TX, what would you want most?

Separate long term and short term areas. Good separation of sites, access to water, electric, sewer that don’t require 40 ft reach. If you advertise WiFi make sure you have sufficient bandwidth to handle current expectations of service. A location that provides good to great cell service. Level sites, and if possible choose a location which provides shaded sites. And a personal desire unless you have long distances to amenities - No Golf Cart usage unless someone requires one due to disability.

RE: Dog Attack

I have a 15lb Papillon dog who just loves to walk around campground or anywhere for that matter. One day were at a state park at the beach doing just that. We happened by a small TT and we could hear dogs from INSIDE the unit. Suddenly there dogs crashed through the screen door on and ran to attack my dog. I had to push them off and try to pick her up at the same time. Fortunately the owners were quick to respond, and other than being shaken my dog was unhurt.

RE: Cuts to the Senior discount coming?

I think the ideas have merit and should be implemented. Pay $10 or now $80 bucks for a pass to any and all Federal parks is a bargain that you earned simply by turning 62. Getting half off camping fees is a Bonus, getting N% off other services just because you’re old makes no sense. Limiting the discounts to lower usage times is a good idea. You don’t get happy hour (actually several hours) pricing at other times of the day. You don’t get senior menu prices on every menu item, and even then they are typically smaller portions.

RE: stand alone antenna booster

I’d simply replace all of it with the latest Winegard Sensar and Sensar Pro control box. Can’t believe they still install non boosted antennas in RV’s. Even way back in 2009...

RE: Black Tank--Borax?

I’m always amused that some of us go to great length to clean/super clean the black tanks just so we can poop in a clean tank, and do it all over again.

RE: Seat belts in a camper?

Three people in the front seat with a center console with floor shifter is not a solution in my book. It might be ok if the shifter were on the column with no console.

RE: Is this forum going to get fixed???

I use “I” devices (iPhone & ipad) and works well now and have had very few issues. Perhaps OP needs to clean out cookies and web history and try again. Run a system cleaner.

RE: Seat belts in a camper?

Good idea to check the legality of teens riding in the camper with or without seat belts. I suspect it’s ok assuming you can communicate with them. What you really need to consider is where is all the people going to sleep and/or store their stuff in your current camper. It may be time to consider a big Suburban and a long TT, but you said not an option. Good luck on numerous points.

RE: Where Fill Trans Fluid ?

I can’t remember owning a car where you didn’t fill it thru the dipstick tube.

RE: Front windshield and info for insurance

Most glass companies who deal with cars can handle a mh. I had mine replaced by Binswanger glass came to my house - measured ordered installed. Mine was broken so covered by insurance with no deductible. Call Progressive and see what they can do.

RE: Show type of RV on question page

The OP does have a point although not necessarily presented well. It would be nice if the reason for the post was a bit more informative about what they are asking. I’ve seen a lot of “Need help” or “what’s this” or “Best X for class a” when they only mean DP’s. I open a lot of meaningless to me posts.

RE: Winter Camping - Golf Cart

After use plug the cart into a charger and keep a full charge. Nothing else to do except check water level in the batteries every now and then.

Who did you buy it from? Can they not tell you?

RE: Modern Food?

Just about every time we go to a chain restaurant my wife says “isn’t as good as it used to be”. Could be lower grade ingredients, could be the “Chef” is inexperienced, could be a number of things. Could also be the wife’s taste buds have changed. I eat anything and just about anyway it’s prepared. ( but I refuse to eat beets or Brussel sprouts! ) You think prices are high now for mediocre food? Just wait till everybody at the restaurant gets $15 an hour minimum. Of course I assume they will remain in business.

RE: Built-in microwave sounds sick

You have a 14 year old microwave. May be time to replace it.

RE: toilet treatment for black water tank

We put a couple cups of dish sop in holding tank along with Thetford Campa-Chem. I believe the dish soap does more then toilet chemical. This and you should make sure there is plenty of water in the tank, drive around awhile to agitate the solution. Let let it set for the entire time you’re NOT using the RV.

RE: Jeep towed discharged when towing. This is new.

Jeep manuals are way out of date on some topics. My 2015 manual says to leave the key in ACC but there is no need to do that since about 2008. UNLESS you need power such as the Brake Buddy. However, not sure it would drain you battery unless you were doing lot of hard stopping or the sensitivity is set to high. I do think you should pull the battery and have it checked and check the charge line.

RE: Push to privatize National Park Service campgrounds

Like a lot of things the cost of establishing a federal park, county or national hi-ways, public schools is peanuts compared to the cost of maintaining them year over year and is not considered or factored in. I constantly see news stories decrying the condition of infrastructure, our failing schools, costs of this and that. Ask anybody on the street and they will say that want all of these things to be repaired, supported, brought up to current standards or expectations of service. Now ask these same people how much more they are willing to pay in federal, state, local taxes or are willing to help by serving and you get a lot of crickets. I have no issue if there becomes a private/public contract to address the federal park system. I see no reason NOT to allow one or more companies to take over the concessions, camping, store operations in federal parks. Keep the basic entry fee for federal parks reasonable so most of not all citizens can come experience the parks. They don’t need to eat there, camp there, of buy overpriced made in China souvenirs.

RE: Disinfecting water lines

I too use separate hoses. While the actual chances of contamination are slim, I’d rather not recycle what I already put down the black tank. ;-)
