RE: Camping near Moab, Utah

May is very busy there, but nice. We were there this past May. We prefer state parks, as they tend to be less claustrophobic. We stayed at Dead Horse Point SP and absolutely loved it!! Very nice park, with a 15 minute drive into town. Mark

RE: Boston Ma. to San Antonio Tx.

When it comes to towing the 5er on I-35, I would rather have a kidney removed...with no anesthesia!!! I would (and have several times) peel off I-30 at Greenville on hwy 380, west all the way to Jacksboro. Then catch hwy 281 all the way into San Antonio, and go west on loop 1604. That way, you avoid most of the MetroMess (aka DFW), and Waco, and Austin (what a nightmare!!). And it puts you into SA real close to the base. This route adds about 75 miles to your trip, but WELL worth it...and I would wager that it ends up about the same time since you avoid so many heavy traffic areas Very relaxing, good road, NO CONSTRUCTION, and some cool towns to go through. I-35 is about the most stressful hwy I have ever been on!! Mark

RE: States Visited Map Rules

Your map, your rules. (And likewise for the sticker maps on your RV.) My rule is "states in which I've slept overnight at least once in my RV." Same and same. Same here. Mark

RE: Texas

FM1431 from Cedar Park and Marble Falls is another great ride. I like riding this from east to west. It starts out wide, lame and congested and builds up to hilly and twisty. This is my go-to stretch when I need my fix. I actually live off 1431 between CP & MF, and it does indeed get really nice in the spring with the bluebonnets blooming!! Lots of riders on that road. Also, Willow City Loop is very nice. Beautiful ride!! It's north of Fredericksburg, and close to Enchanted Rock, so you should check it out too!! WILLOW CITY LOOP Mark

RE: Colorado 114 from Sillsville to Saguache

I consider it one of the easier passes in Colorado. Agree!! I pulled my 43' fiver through there with no issues at all. Easy peasey!! Mark

RE: What options?

Love the auto-level, and negotiated with the dealer to include slide toppers. Would never have another without them!! My 5th wheel came with an outside TV...it's never even been turned on. It also came with the Sani-conĀ® Turbo waste system. Thought it was really cool, but after using it a couple times, not so much. Went back to just using the old hose. Mark

RE: Ozark resort

Get the cheapest campsite you can find. If you are truly visiting Branson for all the activities there, you won't be spending any time at the campground anyway. Chances are, you'll be out late watching shows or engaged in activities, and you'll sleep in long in the morning, get up, and hit the streets again. If you are selecting a campground so you can just vegetate around a campfire, you can do that somewhere much cheaper than the Bronson area. Or consider Table Rock State Park. Table Rock State Park would be my choice and none other. Couldn't agree more!! We stayed at Indian Point Park (part of Table Rock). Very nice park. It's just down the road from Silver Dollar City. And when we went there, the line of cars getting in (from town) was miles long. But we went right in since we were coming the opposite direction!! Mark

RE: Drive trime needed from bryce to moab

The non-scary route would be route 12 to route 89 north to I70 east to route 191 south to Moab. Google Maps estimates 4-1/2 hours. Except for portions of I70 we have driven these roads in our Class C. All easy driving. The much more interesting route is route 12 in the opposite direction from Bryce to Torrey then route 24 to I70 east and route 191 south to Moab. Google Maps estimates 5 hours. Route 12 has several short sections of 14% grades and about 1/2 mile of "hogsback" with steep drop offs on both sides of the road. We have used this route 3 times in our Class C. If you have time while in the Moab area, drive route 128 east along the Colorado River as far as Fisher Towers Link. The first few miles is in a canyon cut by the river and has the feel of driving at the bottom of the Grand Canyon. We did hwy 12 (Hogback) pulling the 43' 5th wheel a few months ago. The speed limit through the Hogback section is 35MPH. If you keep it slow and easy, there's no problem. Very scenic drive. Definitely agree with the hwy 128 drive. Beautiful!! Mark
