RE: Happijac issue
A follow up to my Happijac old style motor dying on my 4800 jack. I ordered a new style motor, and installed it on the 4800 jack. Works fine, very quiet. Not sure if the new clutchless style motor is turned off by the new style controller, or in the motor itself. If it shuts off in the motor, I should be OK. If it's shutoff by the controller, I'm still using my old style controller, so I'll have to be careful when I retract the jack all the way in so the fuse in the controller doesn't blow.

One of my three year old Happijac motors (old style) has died. Right now, replacements are not available. Here's what I got from Lippert this morning:

The motors will be available again at the end of June, the PN is 2022003046, and they are $220.95 each.

RE: Happijac issue
So, my 3 year old Northstar 12STC has Happijac 4800 jacks on the front, and Happijac 4160 jacks on the rear. The motor on one of the front jacks has died. After discussion with folks at Etrailer, the new style Happijac motors won't work with my current jacks. They said the only thing I cand do is replace all 4 jacks, the control unit, and remote with the new drive system. $3500 because one powerhead died. Do I have any other options? Thanks.
Not real happy with Happijac at this point.

RE: right front tire wear
All 3 of my Ram 3500 duallies have scrubbed the right front tire.
This is my 6th Ram/Cummins, but my first dually. My camper is about 4800# loaded for camping. At 24,000 miles here's the passenger and driver front tires. Both are scrubbing on the outside, but the passenger side is much worse. I took it in for alignment, the passenger side toe was .22deg, the driver was .08deg.
Oh, and when I weighed the truck and then the truck and camper at the CAT scale, the front end of the truck is 40# lighter with the camper on.

Yep, I learned my lesson on lithium charging a few years ago. Bought a couple Battleborn 100ah batteries and a PD 4645 Lithium charger for our TC. After doing the research I should have done ahead of time, I discovered the "Lithium" Progressive Dynamics charger meant that it charged at 14.6V instead of 13.6V for the "Non Lithium" charger. It never dropped from 14.6V. So the charger sits in a box in the basement, I replaced it with a WFCO 8950L2, which charges at 14.6v for 4 hours, then drops to 13.6v. Still a bit higher than I'd like, because the charged batteries sit at 13.3v when not charging, but a lot better than constant 14.6V.

Our Northstar 12STC is 3330# dry weight with options (weighed at CAT scale). 4700# fully loaded to go camping, water, diesel, hot water tank, fridge, everything but waste tanks full (weighed at CAT scale).

Yep, even Harvest Hosts are mostly full. Tried to book a couple for our trip down to Florida in a month. 2 of the 3 we tried to book are full. And one of those that are full we've stayed before - they can fit more than a dozen rigs.

Think geometry for a moment.
With the same spring set and same load the DRW actually has MORE leverage against the spring set than the SRW does so the suspension will have more sway with a DRW then a SRW. (the pivot point is the center where the axle spring pack make contact and the leverage point is the outside of the tire)
However most will claim a DRW is "more stable" because twice as many sidewalls reduce the sidewall flex considerably. The reduction in sidewall flex is much greater than the additional suspension leverage resulting in reduced sway or "more stable" ride.
For SRW's switching to commercial rated tires with fairly to very stiff sidewalls is equally or more effective.

Not sure what truck we are talking about, but on the Ram, more leaves on the DRW than on the SRW. And I switched to 19.5s on my 2020 Ram SRW. My 2022 Ram dually with the factory tires has less side to side sway than the 2020 with commercial tires.

It will probably end up weighing 5000#+ with your stuff, a couple people in the truck, and a full tank of fuel. Definitely puts you out of single rear wheel territory. My camper with options is 3300#, and comes in at 4700# loaded ready to go camping. It pretty much maxes out my longbed dually, truck and camper weighed at a CAT scale is 13,700# Maybe look at a Ram Megacab, they are shortbed and I think you can get them as a dually.

RE: Finally Common Sense in California (No Shows at Campgrounds)
Harvest Host sites are the worst for no shows. For a long time there was no penalties for being a no show. The sites are free, so book up several sites for the night, and stay at the one where you end up. It was / is difficult to find an open site. At least now, after 3 no shows, they drop you as a member.

I just went out and measured my 12STC. It's 8'4" from the bottom of the camper to the highest point, which is one of the Maxxair fan covers. The A/C is about 2" lower. Is that about what the guy told you?

The 12STC on my 2022 Ram 3500 dually is 11'6" to the highest point, and the unloaded truck bed is 39" from the ground. Your truck bed must be 5' off the ground.

I have a Northstar 12STC. I think it’s the longest truck camper made, with a 12’ floor length. No basement, no slides, very well made. 3300# dry weight, ours is 4800# fully loaded ready to go camping.

I get concerned about our camper porpoising sometimes as well. It looks like the cabover is moving a ton when I look up and out the windshield. But in reality, it can't be moving too much or it would be hitting the sharkfin antenna. And, since ours is sitting on a rubber mat in the bed of the truck, and the center of gravity is right on the rear axle, the flex in the rubber mat probably accounts for a lot of the movement. As mbloof said, 2" of movement at the front of the cabover isn't very much movement at the front and back of the truck bed.

I have 2 100ah lithium batteries and a 2000w Xantrex inverter. It runs the microwave no problem. Just don't try to make toast while microwaving something else. That didn't work.

I believe Ford is still the only one with switched power at the trailer plug.
I was just thinking, there could be a condition where you're sitting in the Truck, key on, engine off, and the DC DC charger is pumping 30 amps from the truck battery back to the TC batteries. That could be a recipe for a dead battery. .
My Victron Tr 12/12-30 DC-DC charger won't turn on if the truck key is turned on and the engine isn't running. It has to see the increased voltage from the alternator before it will turn on.
