RE: Just a thought on truck campers place here

Why then are you posting about TC's in the Class A forum? They are a very active and important part of our community and deserve respect like anyone else. dodge guy there is a truck camper forum.

RE: Onan 5500 marqiis install in 2019 Volante

Rather than installing a gas tank why not run the genny on propane. Do you have room for a couple of 30# bottles? Also install a manual disconnect, you don't want to feed the genny with shore power.

RE: Replacing drum brakes ???

I priced out the shoes vs the backing plate assemblies, for the difference in price shoes only wasn't worth my time. Plus I got new magnets and hardware. I once replaced the shoes and turned the drums on my car. On a subsequent trip, it had to be a Sunday, a return spring broke and completely destroyed everything. I stuffed a nail in the brake line and nursed it home. Never again.

RE: Towing with bicycle

I have enough to do carrying my sorry butt on a bicycle.

RE: Quiet generators

The Hyundai is good, my buddy is happy with his. I would be concerned with parts and service though. It is likely a rebadged Honda clone hence the lower price and support could be sketchy. As with most things in life we get what we pay for.

RE: Texas to Washington State

I agree. 101 can be treacherous this late in the year with wind, rain, and fog. There are two passes on the I-5, Grapevine and Siskayou, and while long pulls neither are insurmountable. The rest is an easy run although not very scenic except around Mt Shasta. When you get to Washington you will need a raincoat, high boots and an umbrella.

RE: Places To dine

Reminds me of my first time in a small town in northern Alberta, I asked an elderly local where to get a good meal. He directed me to a hotel, it was the grungiest place I have ever eaten in and the food was sorta edible. Fortunately my digestive system didn't rebel. He had probably never eaten out in his life.:B

RE: Places To dine

I feel your pain. We traveled in the western U.S. and sought out local mom and pop restaurants rather than the chains, if we wanted that we could have stayed home. We found some that were less than memorable but many we would go back to.

RE: Myrtle Beach, SC to Quartzsite, AZ in January

Never made the trip but google says over 2300 miles, that is a long haul. I would allow at least 10 days but I don't push.

RE: Snowbird funny

:B Been there done that. I thought you packed the dog food. No you did. No, that was on your list. Then we found it in the bag on the table.

RE: Tow a car trailer with truck camper on

I don't know about buying one but would be easy enough to make, any rv or auto parts store would have the 7 pin receptacle and 4 pin plug. Make sure the 7 pin is solidly mounted to the truck chassis or box.

RE: Toyo tires?

We ran Toyo Open Country on a fleet of light trucks that saw a lot of off highway travel. They were the only tires that would withstand the abuse those clowns handed out, good traction and stable and quiet at highway speeds.

RE: Traveling in Oregon

It is legal here but I have not noticed usage any more than usual. I go out of my way to avoid it, can't stand the smell.

RE: Fifth Wheel Hitch Heigth

Is your trailer level? Four inches is really not enough, you may have to raise the hitch making it a bit nose high which is not ideal.

RE: I Think I'm Outta Here

I check in on a daily basis, I don't find a lot that directly pertains to my style of rv'ing but still enjoy the stories and can relate to a lot of the technical problems. I had a problem with error messages and gave up for a few months but everything seems good now. There, now I have jinxed myself:B

RE: Tires Date

Vehicle tires are generally worn out before they expire due to age. If they are in reasonably good condition you should be good for another couple of years on that truck.

RE: What do you want in a campground?

I look for a clean, well maintained cg with easy access in and out. If the road and sites are muddy/overgrown with weeds or filled with derelict rv's I turn around and keep going. I can only recall one that I would not return to and that was due to the hosts attitude.

RE: 3 Million Cummins for Ram

Best light truck diesel on the market. They sure hit a home run with that choice.
