RE: CB radios - Do you use one?

We use handhelds when caravanning. Wife and I use cell phone when backing TT into campsite, however, if there is no cell signal, we use the handhelds. Also use in campsite if some wander off exploring. Phones and apps are great until you have no cell service.

RE: Pet Peeves in RV Parks

Campsites lit up like Las Vegas all night long. This is to include the super bright LEDs on front of campers that are left on all night long. Wife made blackout curtains we can easily put up in these situations. Loud drunken parties going on well after quiet hours, Last Easter the party went on until 2:30ish AM. Wife and I didn't notice it. Our son was in a tent next to the party site. 24 hour ranger number is posted on SC Park bathrooms doors, so now we make sure we have that number available.

RE: “New” vs.”Old” Ovens

We rarely use our oven, only 3 times. We used it this past Thanksgiving for reheating food and for the first time I put a separate temperature gauge in there mostly out of curiosity. The gauge is bluetooth so I can monitor temps on my phone. The temerature on the oven dial and the actual temps in the oven were no where close. So highly recommend your own gauge if you want to use it.

RE: RV park "STANDARDS"

I like the the type of reviews that people go to places like the beach and complain about all the sand. Lot of people gives bad reviews for stuff that a compground has zero control over. Too much sand, too hot, too cold, too many bugs blah blah blah. I think some of these things are worth mentioning as an FYI, but I wouldn't ding a campground for things far beyond their control.

RE: RV park "STANDARDS"

I agree that reviews are a tricky thing. I found Google reviews the most questionable. IMO opionion if you want decent reviews for campgroiunds you need to go to a site that is dedicated to camping. I have read Google reviews that make me lean one way and then gone to a real camping related website and the lean was totally different.

RE: Where to for Thanksgiving?

Heading to Edisto Beach SP, SC and will be there from Wed - Mon. We did this two years ago and it was great. There is a local restaraunt that does a really good take-out Thanksgiving dinner that we pick up Wed and reheat on Thursday. We really didn't have high hopes for it last time but it was REALLY good. Turkey was nice and moist, not dried out. Each item is packaged separately with very specific reheating directions for each item. We do a get-together with our kids earlier in the month, even if we are in town. We started doing this to remove complications from their lives. It takes us out of the equation that day of figuring out where to go and who to invite. There is enough drama already.

RE: Theft at a State park.......

In SC the most popular thing stolen are bikes as they are very easy to steal and once stolen thief will not look suspicious riding a bike around.

RE: renting out your RV? Success stories? Issues?

If you are renting your RV to help pay for it or perhaps ease the cost pain of owning one perhaps you shouldn't have an RV in the 1st place. We bought ours to go explore and see things and not have to deal with hotels. We want to have our coffee freshly brewed right there and have breakfast without having to make ourselves presentable. Mainly, to have OUR stuff. Our beds, ours linens and so forth that only WE use. We don't want strangers using our stuff. Yeah, we still do big trips requiring hotels or AIRNBs. But we do a whole lot more long weekends with the RV than we would ever do if we were doing hotels. The build quality of RVs ain't that great. It shows wear and tear with just us using it. Imagine if strangers were using it. We take grandkids with us ONCE a year on a trip. My understanding, and I may be wrong, is that companies that do rentals buy special units that are designed specifically to be rentals and can handle the abuse a little better.

RE: More and more instant hot water systems

Hmmm, my hot water tank is at the front of the TT and the shower is at the back. So a lot of water is wasted while it travels from the front to the back waiting for the water to get hot. I like my 6 gallon tank though. Main heating is electric and when we do showers/ washing dishes we do the combo electric/gas and don't run out of hot water.

RE: Grand Canyon

If on the South Rim the Rim Trail is flat and paved. Easy walk. You can drive the Desert View road between the village and the Watch Tower and stop at the overlooks that are marked with signs. You park and none of them are much of a walk to the overlooks and they are all different and worth seeing.

RE: Cold in the bedroom.

We like the bedroom cooler. We put a little heater in the bathroom.

RE: Ordered new Goodyear Endurance & New GC battery install

When I bought mine from Amazon they were about 2 months old and were shipped directly from Goodyear itself in Goodyear, AZ.

RE: Not enough room

Another vote for researching ahead and using Google Maps/Earth. I try to combine planned fuel stops with food stops. Parking and eating can be just as hard as getting fuel.

RE: Early report: One dead in boating mishap Grand Canyon

Roughly 600 people die in boating accidents every year. 599 of them don’t get posted on RV dot net. Why this one? Yep, why? So far there have been 5 deaths in the Grand Canyon this year. It is the most dangerous National Park.

RE: Black water tank health concerns and questions

I am more concerned about sitting on the toilet that someone else sat on in public... Tis true, especially since guys in public restrooms have very bad aiming skills. Also have to worry about dropping your drawers on the ground while you sit due to the same bad aiming skills.

RE: Any idea where to find a hard-shell spare tire cover?

South Carolina weather did the same to my 2019 TT spare tire cover. I just went with a cheap no graphic replacement. If it last 3 years I will be happy and buy a new one once again.

I get that occasionally. Usually just try a second time and it will work.

RE: Tires after over 2 years sitting

I have a horse trailer that mostly sits and does nothing. I try to take it out and drive down the interstate to get up to speed 4x a year for the sake of the tires.

RE: Jacking For Tire Change

Trailer Aide alone may not get the bad tire off the ground so you have to be prepared for that. I had to put aide on 2 boards once to get the bad tire high enough to change.
