RE: Early report: One dead in boating mishap Grand Canyon

Roughly 600 people die in boating accidents every year. 599 of them don’t get posted on RV dot net. Why this one? Yep, why? So far there have been 5 deaths in the Grand Canyon this year. It is the most dangerous National Park.

RE: Black water tank health concerns and questions

I am more concerned about sitting on the toilet that someone else sat on in public... Tis true, especially since guys in public restrooms have very bad aiming skills. Also have to worry about dropping your drawers on the ground while you sit due to the same bad aiming skills.

RE: Any idea where to find a hard-shell spare tire cover?

South Carolina weather did the same to my 2019 TT spare tire cover. I just went with a cheap no graphic replacement. If it last 3 years I will be happy and buy a new one once again.

RE: ATT and Galaxy Hot Spot issue

I get that occasionally. Usually just try a second time and it will work.

RE: Tires after over 2 years sitting

I have a horse trailer that mostly sits and does nothing. I try to take it out and drive down the interstate to get up to speed 4x a year for the sake of the tires.

RE: Jacking For Tire Change

Trailer Aide alone may not get the bad tire off the ground so you have to be prepared for that. I had to put aide on 2 boards once to get the bad tire high enough to change.

RE: Thor or Forest River - Warranty and reputation

When I picked up my new Forest River in 2018 I was told "you are going to have issues. Go on a couple trips, write them down, then bring it back to get fixed." After a couple trips I had 7 issues I had documented. All were fixed under warranty and none of the 7 issues have re-occurred. This was the basic warranty. I rarely do any extended warranties as I think they are a waste.

RE: County Park Experiences

County Park in Charleston, SC is awesome (James Island). Large campground, FHU. Stays booked 13 months out.

RE: Are RV sewer hose supports necessary?

I'll walk my slinky when done draining. Takes a whopping 10 seconds if even that. As long as the trailer discharge is a little higher that the sewer connection gravity will work, even if it has to go up a bit at the sewer. The initial gush of grey water should push what is left of the black water on thru. I have never had the experience of a sewer connection being higher than my camper. I once watched a guy spend 2 hours plus getting his slinky and supports PERFECT. No exaggeration. Maybe if I was staying somewhere LONG term, but he was only there for a couple days. Probably didn't use his tanks out all. I wonder how many people who use supports are trying to skip using their tanks.

RE: Eastbound

Dreher Island State Park is about 20 miles from Newberry. Popular park. They are currently upgrading one loop of campsites to FH. This puts you close to Columbia, SC as well. There is also a KOA in the area and some other commercial/private campgrounds that I have driven by but know nothing about.

RE: Lack of RV Parks... Jimmy Buffet to the rescue!

We just stayed at The Ridge RV Resort in Sevierville. Very nice place. We stayed in Bryson City at a campground that had good reviews, but it was really sketchy. It the only time I've carried a gun to the bath house. I will say it was probably a bad time to go, it was in February, and we had like 10 inches of rain while we were there, so it looked extra gloomy. We liked the quietness to Bryson, but did not see a good looking campground. So what was the campground you stayed in so I can avoid it?

RE: Using my phone hotspot for the tv.

We watch VERY LITTLE TV while camping. I have always been able to pull in a few local stations which I want mainly for local weather and news. I use a Chromecast for movies or TV shows. The catch is I download content and stream it to the Chromecast on the TV. Wifi is required and I use my phone as a hotspot. The advantage is very little bandwidth is used as the content is on my phone. As I said, we watch little TV, but if the weather is bad we have some things downloaded to watch. If we take grandkids I let them choose some movies prior to trip that I can download ahead of time.

RE: New Travel Trailer

Prices are rapidly falling! A similar trailer that is 1 or 2 years old would cost half as much! I am the same way. I do not give my kids advice because if it ends up wrong I don't want that on my shoulders. What I do do is present some things for them to think about. "Did you consider this?" blah blah blah. I have also learned that a lot of people seeking advice really just want you to confirm what they have already decided. Others don't want to take the time to research and figure things out.

RE: Lack of RV Parks... Jimmy Buffet to the rescue!

In our younger days, when the kids were young and camping with us. We might’ve thought about it for the kids experience. Now days we want pice and quiet. We love “ Up The Creek “ in Pigeon Forge, but the way it’s building up there we’re looking for somewhere else. Maybe Townsend or even Ashville, or even maybe Maggie Valley. Up the Creek is in a very good location. If you want tourist trap stuff you have that. If you want to get into the National Park there are roads in that totally skip Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. Spent a week at Up the Creek in May and it was probably the nicest campground we have stayed out. That said, we are looking for a place on the NC side of the park, Bryson City area, to explore. Nothing so far looks comparable to Up The Creek.

RE: Lack of RV Parks... Jimmy Buffet to the rescue!

At least someone is building RV parks. We rode through the Pigeon Forge park in May and it is finished. Nice but expensive. Great location. Check out Up The Creek in Pigeon Forge. No special RV Resort type stuff, but a beautiful park and very well maintained.

RE: Problems with door after new steps installed

What do you mean about "fold away". In the Lippert site I see pull out and fold down. If the stairs have feet on the ground you need to adjust them to be shorter. The first thing I do when setting up is get my stairs set properly and testing the door. Sometimes there is not a perfect leg adjustment setting for the situation so I carry some different sizes of wood to shim them so they are rock steady before using them. If the legs are too short and not shimmed you can bend the step area where they are attached to the camper where the door goes over it when closing. If you do bend it you can close the door and gently bend it back.

RE: Harbor Freight Predator 3500

There a literally thousands of posts here, about that generator. Bottom line is tnat most love the generator. But the 2000w version is not a good choice because of its much louder noise rating. I have the 2000 one and am amazed at how quiet it is.

RE: Empty parks with no open sites.

One way to help this would be to make reservations 100% prepay in advance, and cancellations require a 2 week notice - or you lose your prepayment. There have been so many times where I read about people using "the system" to reserve and cancel at popular places in order to get what they want. Fort Wilderness is a prime example of this - or at least was 10 years ago, the last time we were there. In SC you pay 100% when making reservation. A No Show would get no refund. Here is the cancellation policy. So if you cancel 3 days or less you get nothing back. SC is still making money on No Shows and no incentive for SC to release the sites. Win for SC and a loss for those looking for last minute sites. 60 + days away – no charge 15 - 59 days away- $10 Administrative Fee (non-taxable) 4-14 days- 1st night's stay 3 days or less- no refund. I had to cancel a beach house years ago and due to the timing of the cancellation the policy was if they rented it out during the time I had scheduled then I would get a refund, otherwise I would not.

RE: Where have all the members gone on this forum?

I am newer to these forums and pretty much visit daily. I follow some FB groups as well. The FB groups are mostly focused on camping in various states and one if for my type of camper. If I am going to ask serious RV type questions I am going to ask here. FB groups are a lot like a big convention. People wander over to a table and the same questions get asked over and over. While FB has good search functionality within the groups, very few people take the time to do a search. FB groups are great for short little conversations while forums like this are more suitable for longer and more in depth conversations. Some moderators are heavy handed on FB and others need to step up the enforcement of rules. The moderation helps keep the level of **** being posted down. When following a few groups the less **** the better. With forums like this things are divided into interest and then while in a section you can see a subject title which gives you a clue whether you want to go in and check out the conversation. Now here on this forum some subjects could be improved upon, they give you no clue what the conversation is about. The forums I follow here currently has decent activity. Maybe not what it was but usually something new every could days or so, so not too overwhelming to keep up with.
