RE: California Non-commercial class A license ***New question***

Again, this doesn't help the OP, but here in Texas there is a lot of confusion by DPS as well. When I first realized I needed a non-commercial class A, I went to a nearby driver's license "super center". These "super centers" are set up in various locations in large cities due to the long waiting lines at the older centers. I was told at the "super center" that there was no such thing as a non-commercial class A license and I wouldn't need one anyway. Being a LEO and knowing how to read the transportation code, I showed them the chapter and verse saying I needed one. That brought on a huddle of a bunch of their folks trying to decide how to deal with this. Again, I was told I didn't need it and to go home. I called Austin who confirmed that yes, I did need the license. Austin told the local folks here in Houston how to make it happen. That required another huddle of the local folks trying to figure out what to do. Finally, they let me take a written test, which I passed. Then, when I tried to schedule the driving test, it was back to square one. They don't administer the driving test there, although they do administer the commercial class A driving test. Another call to Austin, who told them, yes, they did do the driving test there and to schedule it. At this point, I felt sure I was marked to fail the driving test, but I passed. The point of this long post is that apparently, not too many drivers in Texas bother to obtain the proper class of license for their RVs. Otherwise, the driver's license test centers would know how to handle them.

RE: California Non-commercial class A license ***New question***

I don’t agree that the CHP’s license stops are unconstitutional. What authority do you have other than a quote from the federal Constitution? Vehicle Code Section 2400 (b) The commissioner shall enforce all laws regulating the operation of vehicles and the use of the highways except that, on ways or places to which Section 592 makes reference, the commissioner shall not be required to provide patrol or enforce any provisions of this code other than those provisions applicable to private property. In 1979 the Supreme Court ruled in Delaware vs. Prouse that stopping a vehicle simply to check a driver's license violates the 4th Amendment.

RE: California Non-commercial class A license ***New question***

It doesn't help you any, but I thought I would be facing the same scenario here in Texas. As it turned out, they didn't require me to bring a class A licensed driver, I was allowed to drive myself. It seems their line of thought is it is more likely for someone to come in and get the proper license if they don't have to jump through hoops.

RE: freezer have ice flakes

This was happening to me this past summer and it turned out it was the refrigerator door. My refrigerator is a side by side. One door has to close before the other or the flap between the doors doesn't click in properly. In my case, the door on the left has to close firmly before the door on the right closes. If yours is a Norcold 2118 PolarMax PM me and I can tell you how to fix the stubborn flapper. Why not just tell all of us?

RE: Closet walls pulling away from structure

If you really want cedar, maybe you could line it with narrow cedar planks run horizontally.

RE: Slideout Rocker Switches Dead, Remote Works OK

I had the same problem, but with my landing gear. The remote worked but the switch did not. I replaced the switch and the problem persisted. After checking for voltage and finding none, I traced the wiring and found an in-line fuse had blown in the battery compartment. Why they used an in-line fuse and didn't use the fuse block I'll never know. Try looking for an in-line fuse and maybe you'll get lucky.

RE: Screw pulled out of exterior fiberglass wall

I have used toothpicks with epoxy in the past and it worked well. When a larger screw holding the awning support pulled out, I drilled the hole a bit larger and used a dowel with epoxy. Re-drill a hole for the screw so you don't spin the patch loose trying to get the screw in.

RE: Want to add a cig charger inside-ideas?

Both of the trailers I have owned had a 12V cigarette lighter outlet built into the TV antenna booster switch. With luck, you have one too and just overlooked it.

RE: 5th wheel lifting bracket

I have a hoist mounted in the bed of my truck. I use it to place my generator in the bed when we take it. Off load the B&W slider hitch base when I don't need it and to reload it it back into the bed. Purchased it for $75.00 at HF. Please post a picture of your setup.
