RE: All 2024 GM HDS get the 10 speed Allison.

I am just happy they are putting a 10 speed behind the gasser. I don't tow more than 8000lbs ever. I tow my 7500lbs load travel trailer and a Parade float for the local Submarine Veterans which comes in at about 6800lbs. Plus I plan on going to a smaller/lighter trailer here in the next 2 to 4 years. So my gas 1 ton is fine. I was waiting for the 6.6 gasser to get more gears and a different transmission than my 2017 3500HD. In 2 years, I will probably be at 50,000 miles on the 17. No need to get rid of it but I will certainly look at the 2024s now as it will most likely be my last truck because on a heavy year I put 3500 miles on it. I am not a truck guy, so I don't daily drive it.

RE: Tundra vs. Silverado question

Mike, I would by the chassis, but don't want a crew cab short box. A dual cab/6.5' box or reg cab 8' box yes. Back then if it didn't have an 8' box, it was out of the question. I was towing/hauling a lot more, so it made sense to skip the.lightet version. As I'm trying to .point out, the 8600-9200 gvwr truck of any body bed style, does not exist today! You go from a 7200 1500 to an 11000 gvwr truck! There's nothing in the middle! Marty Got it. I won't have a truck without an 8 foot bed.

RE: Tundra vs. Silverado question

Ksss I wouldn't have bought a 1500hd back the either. A 2500 had a 9200 gvw, 3500 a 9900 gvwr. Better options. Today you go from a 7200 1500, to a greater than 10,000 gvw 25/35 series 8 lug SW truck. That basic 25 series 8600-9200 gvw truck is not sold today! GM should lighten up per say it's 2500 to below a factory 10,000 rating. Not disCUSSing the Titan. Bad design from the get go. I've owned 5 or 6 GMs as described in the 8600-9200 relm. I'd buy one tomorrow if I could get one. Marty Marty just out curiosity why not a 1500HD or 2500 (not a 2500HD). The 1500HD was the crew cab version of the 2500 same stuff. My Brother in law has a 1999 GMC 2500 with 6.0 and 8600 GVW. It is a solid truck at 240,000 miles. The 1500HD and 2500 are both 8600 gvw trucks, with the 9.5 inch semi floater American axle. 8 lugger, frame is different from the cab back as compared to a half ton. That type of tuck was available from 1999 to 2007. My old 02 6.0 2500HD was a 9200 gvw truck.

RE: GM 6 liter vortec what are you towing with it?

What are you towing with your 6 liter 2500hd or 3500hd? What’s the gvwr of your trailer and how’s the towing experience? I tow an Arctic Fox 25r with my 2015 2500hd 6 liter vortec. Trailer weighs about 9,000 lbs loaded. I’m happy with it’s performance and reliability for the most part. Throughout the mountain west, It’s averaging 8 mpg per 400 miles. It goes over Donner Summit in CA at 60mph towing. Handles comfortably while towing. But……… I’m considering a 30’ 5th wheel that weighs about 12,000 lbs. No doubt a diesel would handle it better. Would I be miserable towing a 12k 5’er with my 6 liter gasser? At one time both my parents and my wife and I had similar 30 ft 5th wheel campers and we pulled our campers to Pigeon Forge on a trip we took together. My parents had a 01 2500 6.0 and we had a Super Duty Power Stroke diesel. Long story short about a month later my dad purchased his first diesel powered truck. Until that trip he was good with the performance of his 6.0 gas engine, but he simply didn't know how much better a diesel performed for both fuel economy and towing performance. I had an 02 2500HD and now have a 2017 3500HD, both 6.0 gas 4.10 trucks. Your parents was like my 02, the OPs truck is like my 17. There is no comparison. The 2017 tows circles around the 02. You can't use the 01 to compare it to the OPs 2015. Having said that, it will do 12,000. I think it is rated at 13,7000. I tow a 32 foot 8000lbs loaded trailer with my 17 3500HD gasser and it does fine keeping the speed limit all over the passes out west, but I think if I were regularly towing 12,000lbs I would look hard at a diesel and decide what your are willing to spend.
