RE: Another Mile, Another Day

Depends. No not the type you wear although I could drive longer with them. :) It depends for us on the road. Freeways 400+. Highways maybe 250-300. On hwys running 45-60 depending on the curves, hills slower traffic etc, we don't get as far. Out on the interstate where you can set the cruise at 65-70 and only need to stop for gas, potty break, etc we can go 6 hours plus and not feel like we're going nowhere slow.

RE: Any Grand Design Transcend owners?...

Reading all the posts on the GD owners forum you can tell that they're built like all the rest. I'm not sure I could even recommend one brand over another anymore. Maybe Lance, but they're over priced and I don't like their floor plans much. It's really a **** shoot when buying a new RV. There can be two identical RV's on a dealers lot and one could have multiple issues and the other might never see the dealer again. Sad.

RE: Air conditioning in new 5th Wheel

How is your 5er situated compared to the suns movement and how many and how big of windows are on the sun side? Sitting in the direct sun all day is going to be the biggest issue IMO. Even getting a jump on it in the morning it's still going to be hard to get much lower than 10-15 degrees from the outside temps if you have lots of windows in the suns path.

RE: New Ram is awsome!

My comment regarding the computers not being very accurate is from my experience. I have a 2017 Ram with the 6.4 Hemi. On my last tow, the computer said I got an average of 9.7 MPG. The hand calculation showed I really got 6.9 MPG. That's a huge difference. Of course my fuel gauge isn't very accurate either. I have a 31 gallon tank. I ran my truck to near empty (not towing) and when the computer said I was 27 miles to empty I put gas in. It took 24.3 gallons so I had nearly 7 gallons left in the tank. I've literally pulled into a gas station not more than a few blocks after the fuel light came on. I still had 8 gals left after filling up. The gauge is way under 1/4 when the light comes on but I always seem to have 7-8 gals left. I have never seen 9.7. In fact I'm lucky to see 9 mpg from the computer. Don't hand calc as that would most likely ruin a good camping trip.

RE: New Ram is awsome!

Very nice truck. Congrats! The computers are never very accurate. Did you happen to write down the mileage and gallons used and check your MPG that way too? Not too sure about that. After watching a few FLT mileage runs the computers were pretty close on Rams and even lower than the hand calc at times.

RE: New Trailer Quality Control

I always find it interesting the people will buy a 5-10-50 year old house but won't buy a 2-3 year old RV.

RE: Help - TV - Lance 2445 & Escalade

Rear airbags? Maybe they just aired them down for easier egress?:)

RE: Are campgrounds more crowded or is it just me?

We have a favorite spot we go to several times in the summer. Went 2 weeks ago for 4 nights Mon-Fri. It was full. There's a string of 7 CG's along a river and most all were full or very close to full. Last year you could just show up on a Sun-Mon afternoon and get a decent spot. Now every site in ever CG is reserve only. Last year it was a mixed bag. Saw plates from WA, ID, CA and TX. I'd say it's definitely more crowded. Drove up to another CG about 5 miles away and it was full as well. And this is during the week. Not a good sign.

RE: Help - TV - Lance 2445 & Escalade

I think you'll be borderline maxed out. I'm guessing that the TW is heavier than you think. If you go to Lances site you can build your own 2445 and it will tell you what the UVW will be. I loaded one up with most nice stuff and it added 551 lbs. Batteries, propane, stuff in the bedroom and front cargo area will push it towards 900 lbs. That leaves 500 lbs. I see it's a bunk so guessing you have kids? Whats the weight of everyone and the gear going in the Caddy? If you're comfortable being at max payload then it looks doable. You certainly have the power.

Couldn't get close enough to get a photo, would love to see what he's towing with the ranger. Maybe something like this

RE: RV Shopping

JMO but $30-35K won't get you much in the way of quality in a 30'-35' 5er. Even a slightly used one. I suggest you go to and enter in $30,000-$35,000 and that will give you an idea of what you'll have available.

RE: 10,000 wdh for 4,000 lb TT

BTDT with a Nissan Frontier and a 4050 lb loaded TT. Way to stiff. I ended up with bars rated at 400-600 lbs. With the Equalizer IIRC you can swap out the bars on them with the exception of the 1400 lb model. It uses a different head.

RE: What's with Ford and TFL?

We we all know Ford is 'First On Race Day' so no need to test them anyways. :)

RE: F250 3.73 to 4.30 axle ratio

Five thousand dollars for a gear swap is just about exactly what it costs to buy a diesel instead of a gas engine. Add $4000-5000 to that. The diesel option for a ford is $10,495. Ram its $9300

RE: Ok what truck to buy ?

Ram has a 50 gal fuel tank option if you order. I've seen a few 6.4's with it for sale. It's a $295 option thats well worth it.

RE: How to safely operate a B & W Patriot 16k 5th wheel hitch

Doesn't get much easier than with a B&W. Slide the handle towards the cab, back in correctly and the hand will move towards the tailgate when hitched. Walk around to plug the 7 pin cord in and check that the jaws are around the pin. Reach in the bed and pin the handle. Used a 16K Patriot for 6 years without one issue.

RE: Oregon SP opening up

According to an OregonLive story, State parks at the Oregon coast are reservation only. No walk ups. Guessing they're trying to cut down on the visitor travel. Also you can only book 2 weeks in advance vs the normal 9 months for State parks.

RE: Rig for two couples?

My DW and I can just barely handle being with each other for a month on the road. Adding in another couples disagreements along with ours and I think it would get old. I vote for two seperate trailers. Another factor is what if one person in the party gets sick? that would really put a kibosh in the trip.

RE: Opening of National Parks, Forests & State Parks

I think people are sick of this bogus covid scam. You can't believe the CDC or Dr F because they have been wrong so much of the last couple of months. People want to live their lives. Sick people, susceptible people, and scaredy cats need to stay home and not rag on the rest of us. Heckuva scam that kills 93,000 in 2.5 months. Thats even better than that Flu scam.
