RE: Have not Camped Mid Season For Awhile....

Even in the later part of the year sites can be hard to get. Especially in the destination areas, Smokey Mts, Disney World, any beach local, etc. We are planning a Sept/Oct trip and moving about regularly. We might have to make reservations for the week ends, we'll see. Best to check the sites you're interested in and keep tabs on the vacancies.

RE: Recommend me a Vacume Food Bagger

I can make my own bags out of the exact material that I buy from them at half the cost or less when bought on sale. Splain Lucy. Please!

RE: Recommend me a Vacume Food Bagger

I like to smoke ribs, chops, whatever and seal them in our Seal-A-Meal, freeze them and throw them in the RV freezer. After a day's driving, at the campsite just throw them in the microwave and just like fresh cooked/smoked. No muss, no fuss> And great tasting food. Seal-A-Meal for me!

I have to agree with ron.dittmer. And #7 for us was the major reason.

RE: Clean Water Heater

DW has corrected my post about the vinegar mixture. I said 2 water to 1 vinegar. She said it was 4 parts water to 1 vinegar. Sorry for the confusion.

RE: Inexpensive ‘home park’ so we can get RPI

Tyler0215, I'm with you. The best that I could find is that RPI is the lazy way of saying "Resort Parks International". KM, I could find nothing on. Guess I don't need to know.

RE: Clean Water Heater

We had a nasty rotten egg odor coming from our hot water tank. I did some research and between all the advice I found I devised my own method that worked. Pulled out the drain plug and cleaned it thoroughly. Got our pump up garden sprayer and put in a mixture of 1 part vinegar to 2 parts water. Inserted the plastic spray wand and squirted in all directions. I also removed the nozzle tip so the liquid sprayed more to the sides, rather than straight ahead. While spraying the liquid will run out the drain where the sprayer is inserted, so you'll get flowing out. After using about a gallon of the liquid I let it set for an hour or so then got the hose with aRV water tank cleaning wand. This did remove the vinegar odor and reached up and all the tank. You will probably get wet! And that's it! Replace the plug turn the bypass to open to the heater, run some through and you should be good to go. Or at least we were. Hope this helps.

Mama Gerties

Just booked a night at Mama Gerties in early October. The only site they had available and only for Sunday night. Is this campground worth the hype? We've often heard how wonderful it is, so we just had to find out. We like to consider ourselves more campers than RVers and are not use to the RV Park scene. Don't care for the shoulder to shoulder parking, need some space. Did we make a mistake? Oh well just gotta find out for ourselves.

RE: Do you contribute ?

I try to contribute to Campgroundreviews, not as often as I should, but I do contribute. Another site I add my reviews on is I have found that it has helped many times.

Where to in Georgia? We're from the midwest and thinking of heading south in Feb but most everything is full. Just wondering what you found.

RE: Where do you Post Campground Reviews?

I post on campground reviews as well on A newer up and coming site that needs help, but is fun. And about campground reviews, my biggest gripe is the ability to search, especially COE parks. Some are listed as XYZ Campground while others are listed as XYZ Recreation Area and still XYZ park or even simply XYZ. I wish their search engine was better. If you type in XYZ and it is listed under XYZ Park it will not show up. But I do post when I get wifi connections on the road. When I get home I tend to forget to many details, so don't post.

RE: Louisiana State Parks

WE really liked Palmetto Island. Toured the Tabasco plant and emnoyed the entire area. Beautiful park when we were there. FWIW

Looking for a canopy, 10X10, preferably an instant up type. Light weight and water proof/resistant. The catch is the folded/storage size. I need something under 4 foot, closer to 3 foot the better. Maybe with legs in three rather than two sections. Or even not telescoping type, but fiberglass with bungie or what ever. As long as the set up is minimal and easy. Looked at backpacking canopies, but the best I saw was only 7X7, the rest of the dimensions were there. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

RE: Where to place campground stickers?

A similar but slightly different means of collecting SP memorabilia is hiking stick medallions. DW wife is now on her third stick. Uses one primarily for hiking and the others for displaying. Storage is a lot simpler and they are really pleasant to look at. Just a thought. (I call them her "braggin' sticks.

RE: New to me... UPDATE!!!

I am also a pellet smoker and the DW & I both love it. We've found that Sam's has the best price on pellets, but they do leave a lot of ash and you need to vacuum the fire box out every four or so burns. And with the pellet smoker we found that when cooking, throw on a couple extra of whatever you are smoking. Put the extra in a seal-a-meal/foodsaver or such and freeze. After a day of driving and pulling into a site for the night, pop the frozen bag into the microwave and you have a meal that taste like you just smoked it. Tender and juicy!

RE: For those on the road, what did you have for dinner tonight

Before we head out on a jaunt we prepare several cooked meats and freeze them. I like to use my smoker to prepare most anything from 1-1/2" pork chops, ribs, brisket, brats, pork butts and beef roasts. They are then sliced, proportioned and frozen seal-a meal type bags. Simply pull in for the night, pop a bag of ribs in the microwave and they taste just like they just came off the grill. Juicy, tender and good and smokey.

RE: I hate dinettes

I to am a dinette fan. In fact that's one of the reasons we bought the unit we did. Love it!
