A couple of distilleries in early April

We're planning to hit a couple of distilleries in early April and are looking for other ideas of sites, etc. Buffalo Trace would be the first stop then off to Jack Daniels, where we plan to stay at Tims Ford SP for a couple of days. At Buffalo Trace we're still looking for a park. We prefer State, COE or Military campgrounds. From Tims Ford SP we will probably meander back home to St. Louis in a leasurely fashion, but are not opposed to stops to see new things. And take a slow leisurely cruise and maybe 5 to 8 days. (Retirement lets you do that) Oh yeah, we will be coming from Elkhart, IN, in our new RV on its shakedown cruise. Yes, we will spend a night or two near the factory to check everything out before heading south. Thanks in advance for any ideas.

RE: Mobile hot spots

docsouce, let me know how that works out for you. We get 8gb for a two week trip and come home with little, if any, data left. But, the DW is a FaceBook junkie and post pics daily. I, like you, check email and future sites/campgrounds, etc. We to are looking for a decent deal on data.

RE: Switching to Class C

We just placed our order for a Phoenix Cruiser 2351DPhoenix Cruiser 2351D. It is 26 ft. Right in the middle of you preferences. Queen bed on the rear slide & we ordered the dinette. On a Ford E450 so towing shouldn't be an issue. We really like the company, their products, service and the ability to customize the coach to your wants. Not the cheapest on the market, but the best (in our opinion).

RE: Thanksgiving

Working up at our local Elks Lodge. Cooking and serving a full Thanksgiving free meal to all veterans, First Responders, Fire fighters, etc. It's a long hard day's work, but well worth it.

RE: best place to buy a surge protector

Progressive Industries X 2. Had one and it failed. Contacted the manufacturer and they replaced it. No questions asked, just sent a photo of the plug and received a new one.

RE: TOGO comments?

The ToGo has several antennas, a WiFI and cell booster and a wireless router all built in. It also eliminates the metal box problem of trying to get a MiFi signal outside the coach. The AT&T plan is truly unlimited, not throttled above 25 gig like the FMCA Verizon plan. The only down side is the slightly less coverage you get on the AT&T network. The Verizon hotspot would be a good backup. Asking for a bit of clarification on the slightly less coverage you get on the AT&T network. We currently have an AT&T hotspot and buy data as we need it. Our coverage has been stellar, but are thinking of the Togo program. Did you mean that the Togo & AT&T gives less coverage than the normal AT&T, that we are using, or that AT&T in general is less than Verizon? The reason I ask is that we are pleased with the coverage we currently get, as we tried Verizon and were disappointed. But that's us. thanks

RE: TOGO comments?

Who did the installation? I'm not fond of drilling holes in my roof and not very adept with tools. Thinking about the system, but have reservations as we are not full timers and have to weight the total cost vs usage, etc. thanks

RE: Unfair Reservation System?

DutchmenSport: Good point! We end up doing the same thing, but still hate making reservations at parks that we are new to and determining which site is best from a 2x3" pic.

Florida panhandle reservations

Just got a wild urge to go to the Florida panhandle. Gee all booked up! Go figure. How far in advance do you book Florida panhandle reservations? Talking State Parks and in April-ish. Thanks

RE: 2020 planning

We also spend a lot of time planning. One of our best was a couple of years ago we did our "Spring Falls" trip where we toured several falls of TN, GA & AL and it was great planning and experiencing. Later that year was the appropriate "Fall Springs" trip through out central Florida. And terrific again.

RE: Parking on a slope

We have a steep driveway also, but don't turn on the fridge until we pull out. The night before we put frozen milk jugs of water in the fridge to pre-cool it. Pull those out, turn it on and go!

RE: what a find as we approach Veterans Day

I have in my "office" right above my computer, my Dad's Coast Guard Discharge Certificate framed with a couple of his medals. His father was never in the service, but his grandfather was as a bugle boy in the Spanish-American War. His Discharge Certificate and what few medals I could find sit on the wall, just to the right of my father's. To the left of Dad's is his Grandfather's discharge certificate from the Civil War (1864) with a single medal I could salvage from the family. I refuse to hang my discharge papers from the Viet Nam era as I feel unworthy to be placed up there with these icons of the family. Yeah, Veterans Day means a lot to me!

RE: OH where to?

Really thinking about taking in the Jack Daniels Distillery tour with a couple of nights at Fairview Devil Step Campground, part of Tim's Ford SP, so I'm let to believe. Then want to take inThe rattlesnake Saloon in Alabama. And from there is yet to be determined. Hardest part is finding parks open that time of year, that are worth staying and touring the area.

RE: More campers than parks

On own last trip, 3 weeks long, we had to alter our plans several times due to sold out conditions. First off, one of our practices is to visit parks, places we haven't been to before and hate to make reservations at a new park based on a 2x2" pic (if even available) on the internet. Been burned enough times with bad sights to know better. Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet an get a KOA or other private parking lot style campground to tide you through the weekend. We have found several great parks, what we call WDOS parks (Week Days Off Season) that are killer, but would be tragic on in-season weekends. As we say the problem is that there far too many retired baby boomers with RV's flitting about from park to park (like us) and taking up all the campsites. OH well, at least we can get out!!!

RE: Class C wish list

Just ordered out 2351D and should pick it up April 1. Really a nice package!

RE: OH where to?

Really trying to find COE parks, but most in our area of interest don't open until later April or even May. Guess a lot more research in is order. Unfortunately our departure date is set by the factory completion date. Guess we'll just have to find more distilleries and sit it out.

RE: OH where to?

Guess I should have mentioned that we are trading our 22' Motorhome for a 26' one. We will spend a night or two at the Elhart Campground to make sure all bugs are worked out. We will bring our equipment, etc and transfer. Both new & old coaches have a generator and all the pleasantries. Will more than likely drive through KY, as all their state parks we have been to seem to have a power pole issue, that they are serving multiple sites and as so far away. Will have to get another power cord extension to use them. Maybe on to TN.
