RE: Denali Hwy 8

After doing the usual roads & sights multiple times I think that this year really will be our last trip to Alaska. Said that three times before.
There are few roads, paved or maintained gravel, which have been missed but the Denali hwy is one of them. Thinking along the lines of a two day transit, east to west, & looking for suggestions for camping sites.
So far Google Earth, even using street view, has not yielded much.
We are 55'LOA so pulling out at any little siding is not going to work.
Suggestions?
We have done the Denali Highway a couple times. There were pull off places all along the highway that we have used. If I remember correctly, there is one fuel station about 1/2 way through.
It is far from help, and when we needed help, GS could not figure out how to get to us. We had to change a tire by ourselves. Normally that would not be a problem, but my DH has a disablilty and it made things difficult.
It is a lovely drive. One of our favorites. I hope that you enjoy your trip there.

RE: Summer Plans

We planned to meet our son in Canada and travel a bit with him. Just had $5k repairs and service done on our van. I think we will be vacationing closer to home. Every day in AK seems like a vacation though, so except for the service bill we will not be too disappointed. Hopefully when all the repairs are done, our son will come here to visit and we can go to Prudhoe Bay.

RE: Where is EVERYONE??

Made the trip from the Kenai in Alaska to upsate NY. Trip went well, but we left late and did not get to stop much. We almost got caught up in tornadoes in WI. We did see a bit of wildlife in Canada.
The Canadian customs agents were very helpful and pleasant as we passed from AK to Canada. They always are, but the two on duty that night were exceptionally nice and very professional.
Our B performed well so far. We had temps as high as 108 at one point. NY is almost as bad. If we wern't here to see our son I might be tempted to head back tomorrow.
I hop we can se a little more of Canada on the way back. We like to take back roads and find we meet more people than on the main highways.
Hope you all have a wonderful summer.

RE: Where is EVERYONE??

Hi Full moon
I'm sitting here in beautiful downtown Pointe au Roche Ontario, freezing my buns
off in 28' weather. Oh well it's almost March and that means spring.
john 'I am Canadian'
We hope to see Ontario this trip out east. Is it any warmer now. ??

RE: Electric bikes !!

I'm hoping to purchase an electric trike. I am old, too fat by far, but I don't care if people don't like looking at me. I am out to have fun. My neighbor got one and has a ball. The problem is, how/where do we store it in the winter?

RE: Where is EVERYONE??

We are leaving Sunday early AM for our cross country trip to the northeast and return to Alaska. We have been looking forward to this trip for a few years. We hate leaving Alaska during this time of year, but we are looking forward to seeing our friends and family out there.
For those who are here in AK now, you chose the best time to come. Not too horribly busy yet, weather is the best we have all year. However things are pretty dry and we worry about wildfires.
Perhaps we will see some of you on our trip. For all of you, have a lovely summer.
