RE: Back up camera

I installed the VOX in my 36 ft DP yesterday and it did not send a signal to the screen in front. Went over and tested the wiring several times and nothing. I also moved the antenna to several locations with no results. I removed it and then installed it in my F-350 dually and it worked there. So it is my opinion that the distance and the fact that that there is a metal firewall back there obstructs the transmission. Could be wrong but I am sending it back anyway.

RE: New Owner Needing Info

I tried ti get a replacement signal light that mounts on my 1998 Velvac mirror and it cost $43 and was nothing more than a $2.50 deal from a truck stop and didn't fit anyway....They refunded my money and told me parts for the 1998 on my Monaco were no longer available. Got one from Wal Mart that worked but had to wire it in. Check your private messages

RE: Back up camera

VOX came today. Looks pretty simple to install. I'll let you know. Since this thing works off the back up lights it is useless to monitor whatever you are towing going down the high way. I am only using it to hook up my trailers which I can't see the hitch with my factory camera. I can still use the original to monitor going down the road.

RE: Repairs and Upgrades

At one period in my life I just figured no matter the cost I could make the money in no time compared to the time and agrivation it took to fix things. Just felt I had better things to do than work on my DP. Been retired for 18 years now and do a lot of little things myself on the RV, the house, and the cars. Have learned a lot. You want an education try replacing the cooling fan on a Smart car. You would be surprised what you can do if you want to.

RE: Time to hang up the keys...(consignment ?)

I am 78 and although no long trips this year we have been to Charleston, Pigeon Forge twice, Baltimore once and Blowing Rock, NC so far this year. Be leaving 24 Dec for West Palm Beach. I have lived my life on the dangerous edge and figure if I alter plans for what MIGHT happen I'll either miss a lot or never do anything. Did I mention that I still tow my race car which I also drive? But I am sure that the time will come when I have to start giving up some things, not soon I hope.

RE: Time to hang up the keys...(consignment ?)

I just sold my old one on Craigslist. Got what I asked but I had to drive it 200mi to its new home. Pretty seamless deal but you need some skills at sorting out the tire kickers.

RE: Trailer brake controller wireing

Seems that way. It’s going in for service and he said it’s just like the big trucks they usually work on and they will find it for me. Says they stick them everywhere

RE: Trailer brake controller wireing

Brake light is red and turn signal is orange so I think they are different. I have been unable to find a switch or wire near the brake pedal so far.

RE: Question for those towing an enclosed car hauler...

I have done without one for 20 years on the race car trailer but I for sure would have one if I should buy another trailer. Don't cost that much more but not sure if the economy brands even offer it.

RE: Trailer brake controller wireing

Thats good but I already have all the light functions wired into the 7 position plug in the back. I can pick up a brake light wire in the back and run it all the way to the front when I run the brake only wire to the back but would be easier if I could find the brake light switch up front, I already have the positive and ground connected in the fuse panel up front.

Trailer brake controller wireing

2 questions. Installing a Tekonsa controller and cannot find the brake light switch. And does this thing have factory trailer wireing already in it. 1998 Monaco Windsor DP with air brakes

RE: Wanna bring a golf cart and a Jeep towed

I sometimes take my Smart car and race car on an open 20ft Featherlite trailer. AS far as length goes for a long time I towed all over the country at 72ft but with the open I am down to 60ft. Trailer weighs 1800lbs,

RE: 20 year old hoses

A few years ago I had the radiator replaced on my Freightliner Chassis DP. About a month later a top radiator hose failed on a Sunday in the middle of nowhere. No help to be had so I had to abandon it, get a rental car, buy tools, hose and clamps and repair it myself which was no fun. It was hot and I at the time was 75 years old. They had not replaced the hoses while replacing the radiator.

RE: Short Term Winterising

I never really winterize. Most of my "water" is located in the same area or compartment including the water heater. If the temp is going to be below freezing I turn on the water heater and have a heater inside to keep it above freezing in the bathroom and kitchen. Did this for years in MD and now in NC and so far its been OK.

RE: 1999 Monaco Windsor Dash air/heat trouble

That was good. So many things on these motor homes are simple to fix if only we could find what is causing the problem---

RE: Diesel Pusher upgrading to heavier toad-advice needed

you will see the difference on the hills. No matter if its in the slip stream, and has little friction you still have to "lift" it to go up hill. Still shouldn't make much over all difference.

RE: Looking to buy our first DP

I currently have a 36ft Monaco that has a queen bed. I previously had a 45ft Dynasty, and a 40 ft Winnebago. Never got turned away from any campground but never tried a forest service place.
