RE: How many folks just want to gripe about EVs?

I'm kind of leaning towards an EV conversion of a classic Beetle. The car, aay, a model in the 60s or early 70s, runs around $10K (give or take a LOT), and a drop-in, complete EV kit from EV-West, which includes batteries, runs around $19K. The electric motor bolts to the original transmission, so four-down towing is not a problem. With various taxes and the like, I figure on the $30k to $32k range. Not too shabby for what will amount to a new car. :) Lynn

RE: How many folks just want to gripe about EVs?

THe problem with averages is that they are easily skewed by outliers when there's a small sample size, a fact from commonplace Statistics 101. The sample here is 40. I would suggest that you rely instead on the median. (The mode probably won't work because, again, of the small sample.) The median would be a bit over $47k. But even the median is probably mistating things. To get a feel for what people really pay -- and here you can use the average again -- you'd want to take this chart and multiply each entry by the number of units sold in a year, 2021 in this case. Lynn Average EV price $66000

RE: How many folks just want to gripe about EVs?

I'll go ahead with my 2 cents' worth: 1. I don't think EVs are there yet for heavy towing. Going to have to continue with ICE vehicles for a while longer. 2. One concern I have in particular is locating a lightweight EV auto that can be towed four-down. I don't know that it exists yet, but I could be wrong. (For the interim, one can have a four-down towable lightweight auto converted to EV. I've been toying with the idea for my MGB.) :) Lynn

RE: rt 64 in new mexico

If your destination is Taos, allow me to recommend a different route: Head south on I25 to Walsenburg. Then turn west on Hwy 160. Go over LaVeta pass (a mild one with a wide road) to Fort Garland, CO, where you turn south on CO 159 / NM 522 into Taos. Easy peasy driving. :) Lynn

RE: Ute Mountain, CO to Torrey, UT

Oh, good to hear the input on that route! I'm spending a couple of nights at the casino's RV park before pushing on. But need to linger in that area so that I can make a quick trip to Dove Springs (NE of Cortez) to pick up a gunnysack full of Anasazi beans! Then to Torrey for a fun Airstream rally! :) Lynn We've been on it several times, towing a TT or a fiver. Nothing springs to mind but I am slope insensitive. Cortez to Torrey might be a better title
