RE: Smoke Detectors

Yes, leave the alarms on. Doesn't hurt anything, and might help save your house. In my town, we (I am in the fire department) certainly do respond to a few calls a year where a neighbor or a passerby hears an alarm going off and that person calls 911. X2

RE: New York City

I have friends staying there right now. No mention of closing down, altho it's probably only a matter of time before there's a high-rise there. Now finding an available site when you want to go may be an issue.

RE: Looking for South Texas Park with activities.

Fishing is about the only thing NOT available at Tropic Winds in Harlingen. We spent a couple Winters there and enjoyed it very much.

RE: Thinking About Nova Scotia/PEI July/Aug 2020

Thanks for all the tips. I neglected to say we would probably be driving the Cabot Trail with the toad on day trips and leaving the coach parked. We're in the really early stages of looking and are interested in what others have found interesting. I will be ordering the Provincial guide books. My thought was that July/August would be more difficult, but unfortunately September is not available for us.

Thinking About Nova Scotia/PEI July/Aug 2020

We're thinking of heading up to Nova Scotia and PEI next July and/or August. We know we want to spend some time on the Cabot Trail. We're looking for suggestions on where to go, what to see. We enjoy natural scenery and seeing 'different' things. We're slightly restricted on walking so things like hiking is out. We'd also like to hear opinions on whether reservations are necessary, especially for mid-week stays. Thanks in advance for any hints.

RE: Baltimore Tunnel

If you don't mind the toll, NJ Turnpike to Exit 1 (Delaware Memorial Bridge". Pick up either Del 1 or US 13 South from there.

RE: Trip from West Coast around the US

Depending upon how fast you plan to come East, check Winter closing dates for camapgrounds in the Northeast. Around here, most close by Columbus Day. Liberty Harbor for NYC is open all year, but will most likely require a reservation. It's the closest to the city with spectacular views and easy public transit access.

RE: New Jersey beach vacation

Jersey Shore campgrounds are not on the beach, usually a few miles away. They do get crowded and can be pricey. We usually hit Holly Shores in Cape May in mid-September. If you want to be right on the beach, I'd suggest Delaware Seashore State Park. The campground is on the bay side, you do need to cross the highway for the ocean side. Cape Henlopen State Park is also good, but it's a bit of a distance inside the park from the campground to the beach. Assateague isn't too much further South, as mentioned. We've spent time in the National Park Service campground there. The wind on the ocean side seems to never stop and can really kick the sand around Safe travels and, above all, enjoy

RE: New York City

I think DrewE meant to say Brooklyn and not Bronx in referring to Floyd Bennett. As he said, getting there can be challanging. Liberty Harbor isn't fancy but it's right on the water with a great view of the skyline. It's also a short walk to transportation into the city and the various tours. The further out campgrounds could be an hour commute each way. Liberty Harbor stays pretty busy so give them a call if that location interests you. Happy and Safe Travels

RE: Cherry Hill to Liberty Harbor routing help needed

X2 As you come down the ramp after the toll, just move to the right wherever you can until you get to Marin Blvd. All those lanes are intimidating but it can be done. Once on Marin Blvd., it's straight on into Liberty Harbor.

RE: Oil Change

Some Walmarts have a bay high enough. Walmart also accepts used oil if you change it yourself.

RE: Honda CRV vs Chevy Equinox

We tow a 2013 Equinox. The wobble is in the 4 cylinder models and not the 6 cylinder. We solved the problem by simply running a bungie cord from the bottom of the steering wheel to under the driver's seat. That seems to prevent the wobble but still allow the wheel to turn sufficiently for towing. GM has come out with a work around, but I haven't gotten around to wiring a charging connection from the coach to the toad. Both cars are good vehicles to tow IMHO. Good luck.

RE: Lake George

I'd take the Turnpike to 287 and then up to the Thruway. Once you pass I-80, 287 isn't too bad. Watch the signs around Albany to stay with I-87 and the Northway as the NY Thruway turns West and becomes I-90. I'm 12'6" and have driven the entire length of the GSP many times. Those low bridges are arches and the shoulders are where it gets tight. They are mostly between Exits 120 and 140.
