RE: MI extended stay at home

We are sitting in TX in our winter spot waiting to go to MI to our reserved seasonal site for the summer. We are inconvenienced and have had to change plans, but we fully support what the governor is doing. When it's safer, she will open the state, open camping and then we will go. It's really not a big deal to wear a mask when in an enclosed area or when you can't be 6' away from people. And for those with asthma -- lots of nurses have asthma too, and wear masks for 12 hour shifts. If they can do it - so can you!

RE: ohio state parks

What dates? I'm reading that most are just reopening.

RE: Improving Fridge Cooling

Not sitting so the sun hits that side of your unit is a big plus. When we had no choice, we added a small fan in the exterior compartment to help push the hot air up and out. That helped quite a bit. This was in 95-108 temps full sun. Norcold 1200. In the future, we will just try not to be in those conditions again.

RE: Confused and Frustrated

No advise other than, we went looking. Went into several rv's and for some reason the class A just felt like us. It kind of grabbed us, so we knew that was what we should buy. Go tour some trailers, fifth wheels, class c, class a . Maybe you will be drawn to something in particular over and over - that will tell you. Doesn't have to be new ones either. Buy the best used, but quality one you can afford.

RE: New Seasonal

We have a Progressive Industries surge protector that will cut power for either low or high power. We are full-time and it has cut power a couple of times when we had no idea there was a problem, and it wasn't someplace we had just hooked up at either. For sewer, hubby has a hinged piece of white gutter that he can take apart at the joint (easily) for a 4' section, or open up for an 8' section. The sewer hose lays in that and is at a nice angle to the drain. It also protects the hose from those guys with the weed whips.

RE: 20 year loan for RV?

Didn't take a 20 year loan, but took a 10 yr loan on a 10 year old higher end unit and we have not been sorry. If it's quality built, it will last a very long time. Much longer than 10 years. We have yet to replace even an appliance in ours. Only a couple of circuit boards, some new tires and normal maintenance. We will be keeping this one for a long while yet as newer ones don't even compare. They are all glitz and glamour with poor workmanship.

RE: Traveling around lake michigan

State Parks are closed in MI until June 22, however, all other campgrounds are opening the end of May unless the governor extends the stay at home again. I hope not as we are waiting for our seasonal site at a county park to open. Other than weekends or holiday times there are usually sites available. Michigan has a lot of campgrounds.

RE: Travel restrictions

The link for the states has not been updated since Apr 30. Looking at MI, the information is not up to date as there is currently a stay at home order in place thru May 28th.

RE: Anyone traveling yet

How many naysayers are willing to lose their loved ones? It probably not you that will get it, but someone close to you. For some, that is what it will take to understand. They can't even read history and understand. Their minds can't wrap around it as they have never been inconvenienced in their lives. It very sad.

RE: Fort Wilkins SP, MI

Announced opening date for MI State Parks is June 22nd if that helps with your plans.

RE: Anyone traveling yet

Many of us who are in campgrounds will follow guidelines and do it safely. The general public will not! That has been seen by photos from various state beaches and parks especially over this past weekend as places started to open, some have closed again becaue of it. They even shut down the parking areas to try and control the crowds. I saw how people responded to the lift of the stay at home this past week. They think the threat of the virus is over and that it's gone - one person even commented they are glad it's done. Won't even practice social distancing. A campground may be safer than your own neighborhood as most other campers don't infringe on your site. Waiting for our seasonal site at a county park in MI to open, hoping to leave TX in a couple of weeks. Not worried about travel, there's always some place to park for the night.

RE: Trapped?

Still in TX and we made the right decision. We are full-time and the campground we have a seasonal site in is not open in MI. Current expected date is May 18. We will wait to see what happens when the current order expires on May 15th, if they can indeed open on May 18, we'll then leave and head that way. In a small town, feel safe here and will be in a small town in MI too.

RE: Atwood hot water heater -- Too darn hot

You want the really hot water so that you can add lots of cold to it and make it last longer. Also if you start with the hot all the way on, let it get hot, then add the cold you won't have the varying temps all the time like you do when hot is partially on.

RE: Insurance quotes

State Farm allows for the reduction in coverage when you are not using your motorhome as long as you don't have a loan on it. If you have a loan, then permission is needed from the lienholder. It was that way the entire 39 years I worked for them, so unless it's recently changed, your agent should be able to do that for you. And, if you don't use it for several months, it will save you quite a bit.

RE: What's happening with your summer gig?

Not workamping, but have a seasonal site planned with a deposit down. They were supposed to open May 1 (weather too cold until then) and with the current MI stay at home until Apr 30th, they are planning on May 15th. They are allowing cancellations with no fees and extended the date to pay any balances until you arrive and they are open. If the gov extends the stay at home, the open date will be later. They are also pro-rating reductions to the rate starting from May 1st.

RE: Snowbirds In Limbo As Coronavirus Upends Travel Plans

DallasSteve - I guess it depends on how popular of an area you are in. There are lots of parks in smaller out of the way places that are not in snowbird territory.

RE: Stimulus Check , what are you going to do with yours ?

Technically the payment is a refundable tax credit that qualifying Americans can apply to their 2020 tax bill, but the government is handing it out early. A tax credit reduces your tax bill on a dollar-for-dollar basis. Refundable credits, like the stimulus payment, mean you can get cash back even if you don't owe anything. Don't worry: The one-time payment won't reduce your tax refund. If you're owed one and you file your tax return, you'll still get the full refund as a separate payment. RE: RV Insurance (Full Time)

Where are you setting up your full-time residency? Which state? You should purchase your insurance in whatever state you are doing that, along with your drivers license and title. We are residents of S Dakota and have our full-timer policy with Progressive in that state.

RE: Iowa Campgrounds

Long term tenants and permanent tenants residing at the campground are exempt. That is a good thing for any full-timers there.
