RE: harbor F replacement jack also recalled

Thanks Red. So far there aren't any news reports to substantiate the email as a new/recent occurrence. We'll keep an eye on it. While I enjoy making fun of HF as much as the next guy, I want to make sure we're being fair and accurate. A Nigerian prince taught me years ago not to believe everything that lands in my Inbox. Fortunately he was telling the truth and made me a very wealthy man.

RE: harbor F replacement jack also recalled

Out of fairness, I've searched through the major news outlets and and haven't been able to find anything to substantiate this. I found one YouTube video from a guy who saw something on Facebook, but that's not much of a source. Not that this info isn't true, but I can't find any credible reporting on it yet.

RE: harbor F replacement jack also recalled

What's less shocking, that the original HF jack stands were bad or that the replacements are also bad? I've bought plenty of stuff from them, but nothing that I'd bet my life on.

RE: Stay on your own side....

Not that this hasn't been delightful, but alas the thread has run its course and devolved past any usefulness. Here's to better days when we can all be good neighbors once again. And speaking of good neighbors, you Canadians were fantastic hosts to my wife and I last fall. My only critique is that Ontario is too large to be on one single time zone and it was hard to get out of bed in the morning when the sun didn't rise until nearly 9:00 as we got closer to Thunder Bay. Just a small critique. Here's a sweet Canadian memento that Nature left on our doorstep in Sault Ste. Marie. It was very Canadian of her.

I'm pretty close to shutting this thread down. Please keep it civil and keep politics out of the discussion. Thanks.

RE: Do ice cubes in the black tank really work?

I've heard that for years. Was under the assumption that folks mainly used the ice when the gauge quit working and must be driving for it to be effective. Personally have never tried it but do add a couple gallons of water and Dawn dish liquid after dumping the black tank. It's been a very effective method for many years. Same here: Water, Dawn, and some Calgon. The gauges have worked great since I started doing this a few years ago.

Do ice cubes in the black tank really work?

I stumbled across an interesting YouTube video today that takes a look at the age old topic of pouring a bag of ice down the toilet. From what I can tell, it helps but only a little. I hadn't thought of this before, but since ice floats, it really doesn't make contact with the solids at the bottom of the tank unless you drain the liquids first. I think the quantity and makeup of the ice would be big variables too. The video is worth a watch though. SENSITIVITY WARNING: There is no actual human waste in the video, but he uses simulated waste per a NASA testing recipe. Personally, I score this a 4 of 10 on the yucky scale. As much as we discuss tank maintenance on these forums, there shouldn't be anything we haven't already discussed here before. Nobody should be shocked.

RE: Painfully slow internet

I'm an AT&T customer and don't like them at all, especially since they acquired DirecTV and took the company with #1 customer satisfaction and turned them into jerks too. Having said that, one benefit of the merger that we like to utilize is the fact that streaming DirecTV content via your AT&T devices doesn't count against your data usage. It's kind of an Orwellian logic since the data plan is called "unlimited", but they throttle the speed after a monthly data threshold is reached. Any DirecTV content that you stream doesn't count against that threshold.

RE: Required signing waiver of responsibilty

Attorneys are only acting on behalf of their clients. My experience is that they're usually acting on behalf of themselves.

RE: Want to add solar battery charger for storage use

Yep...go big, as dedmiston says. 100-200watts will keep you happy when you're out there in Glamis or Borrego. We put in 700 watts of panels. You can see the sun get dim when it comes over our roof. I think we even get a little charge from the full moon.

RE: Water pressure - why does pump run when city water connected

Hey Dan - Dumb questions are OK here. Welcome to the forum. For starters, the other comments are right that you should definitely turn off the pump when you're connected to city water. It's an either/or thing. There's something interesting about what you said though. You mentioned that you have a 40 PSI regulator and the pump is also running. I don't know this for certain, but I would take that to mean that your pump puts out more than 40 PSI and is making up the difference between its max and the 40 PSI coming from the city inlet. (That could be totally off, but it's an interesting puzzler.) You also bring up another peculiarity of the toy hauler community related to full hookups. Most of the toy hauler owner's I see here and on other forums are primarily boondockers and we feel like bumpkins when we go to an RV park and don't know how everything works. My wife and I took a 10,000+ mile trip last fall and I still felt like an imposter at the end, even after setting up at RV parks for months. I'm used to seeing my buddies unpack all their gear and level up their rigs by digging holes in the dirt. On the rare trips when we have hookups, it's funny to watch everyone staring down the end of their water hoses and tangling up in their shore power cords like circus bears. It's such a different culture.

RE: Required signing waiver of responsibilty

This smells like an attorney's idea. A lot of HOAs in my area are having trouble reopening our association pools under the County's new COVID health guidelines. The #1 reason most of the HOAs haven't reopened is because their attorneys have advised them against it. One of the ideas I've heard floated is that residents should sign a release first, which is ridiculous because the homeowners technically own the association pools. My point is, a lot of zealous attorneys are advising their clients to either shut down or make releases a condition of reopening. Maybe that's what's happening with this park.

RE: Yellowstone in October

Keep in mind that the park's facilities begin to close in October. Our family stayed at the lodge once and we were there for their closing night. The staff were pretty....distracted. Portions were generous, but service was spotty. The vibe was amazing though and we had a great time. This was probably 20 years ago and our kids still remember it.

It's remarkable that she made it to 72 before finally reaching the boundaries of her own common sense. I'm sure it's tragic for her family nevertheless.

Also check the breakers on the gen. There's definitely no ATS though. Your shore power cord is your transfer.

RE: Flashlights

What are your thoughts about headlamps? Between the lights on our phones and the prevalence of headlamps, I haven't bought a new flashlight in years.
