RE: Thunder Storms

I was stopped for the night in Coldwater Lake, Kansas and they actually had a tornado shelter for the CG.

RE: Buying a New 2016 trailer in 2019. What’s it worth?

I know of an RV dealer that probably still has a brand new 2015 toyhauler in the lot. They want more than I can get a new version for at a different dealer.

RE: Cumbres Toltec Scenic Railway - Southern Rockies

You can camp up near Sublette NM and watch as it comes through the area. I've chased it on a dual-sport as there's a dirt road that follows it in that area. I rode the train years ago and some guy was doing the same thing so I made it a mission to go back one day and do what he did.

RE: Where do Americans list their RV's ?

Facebook Marketplace is where everyone seems to sell around here. You can see who you are dealing with. I listed a Honda EU2000i recently and thought i would throw it on CL too but it seems a ghost town around here. I had two inquiries on CL and one smelled of a scammer. I had a bunch of inquires on FB and according to their tracker 1400+ people had looked at the ad.

RE: Sad state of our National Parks-II

But I understand, much better to spend the time and electrons discussing who got a touchdown in last week's soccer game. I've actually volunteered in a national park and you?

RE: Sad state of our National Parks-II

And the "non-political" comments from Yosemite Sam continue. Ok, please explain how any discussion of funding/maintenance/existence of the public parks, or anything else that is owned in common, can happen, other than talking about the policies of the people we elect to control the common? I can understand nobody wants dispersions cast on the ones we think are acting in our interest, but if we are not allowed to look at other policies that might be contrary to our interest can we call ourselves educated? The PLBADC forum is under the grouping Destinations. This The PLBDAC forum states Share your experiences at places spectacular in scenery, rich in recreation or historic in nature. I feel your discussion would be better served in ATC. I don't come here for political discussions. The key word is Boondocking which many of us enjoy either because we like to get away from people or want to save money or both.

RE: Good Sam - what's in it for the campgrounds?

GoogleAds is one of their profit centers. You pay Google for keyword Placement. Then you have to pay internet professionals to optimize your search results, I recently started using DuckDuckGo for 90+% of my searches as I was tired of google stalking me 24/7. The few times I need to go back to google it is funny how obvious certain companies are always at the top of the search results.

RE: Nevada Hwy 50

This is also the Western Express adventure cycling trail. A shorter cut off in Colorado to San Fransisco from the main route coast to coast. So if it's summer and you see some crazy bicyclist with saddlebags you now know why. If you have some sealed cold bottled water you might stop and offer it to them. I know it's a long run between water stops. Years ago I saw a young guy and knew that's what he was doing. I slowed down and he stopped. We chatted for probably 20 minutes. It was early morning and we had maybe one car go by while chatting. Some do this section at night depending on the heat. The kid was telling me as he got farther west he would just find a spot out of sight in the desert and pitch a tent.

RE: Difficulty getting the tow ball to release from hitch

One I see frequently on the craigslist is various spellings of pindel, pendel etc hitch vs the proper spelling pintel hitch.

RE: Anyone use the Harbor Freight solar panel kits?

100 watt Renogy for about the same price. I picked up a 180 watt small folding table type unit with built in controller for about 215 a few years ago but it looks like Solar Blvd has gone out of business. I've gotten burned on most electronic items I've bought from HF. Someof their stuff is decent for the price.

RE: Yet another great mapping resource -- NFS topo PDFs

I use a dedicated Garmin GPS (Montana 600) with topo software and then research certain areas where I may not have a cell signal before a trip. I use ExpertGPS if scanned topos are needed. If you have an android phone there's' an app US Topo Maps Free or Pro ($) That's a great program even if it sometimes crashes on my older android system. When I get a new phone I will pay for the Pro version. Many of the newer topos seemed to be sanitized for your protection.

RE: Anyone use the Harbor Freight solar panel kits?

There was a bird flying around the local Hazard Fraud store the other day. The whole time it was chirping cheap cheap cheap. #hack_comedy

RE: solar

I have about a 180watt? folding panel about the side of a small folding table. It does me fine and have two Trojan T105's. The downside is the panels are heavy and a little awkward to store under my bed storage.
