RE: Smoky Mountains camping

Glad it worked out for you. It appears they were closed thru 6/3 and had refunded those reservations. I am not familiar with this campground and don't know if availability is normal or due to covid 19 scare. In any case it appears you found just what you need. This site can be a valuable resource for RVers.

RE: Smoky Mountains camping

SMNP is the most visited national park in the country. Most sites are reserved 6 months in advance. There are some first come sites. Sites with services are nearly nonexistent. With tat in mind you should now be aware of your chances for a string of 6 days open.

RE: Satellite TV .....pros/cons? Tired of tv infomercials!!

We have a Carryout automatic sat system. We have Direct TV. It depends on the package you buy. It isn't inexpensive. It is very good.

RE: Improving Fridge Cooling

Rig came from manuf with a fan in the top side vent. I added a fan in the bottom side vent aimed up directly on the coils. I also put a small battery operated fan on the bottom shelf inside the refer. Between the three it now cools even with sun shining on that side. I can turn both fans on or off as each has its own switch. I don't know how the temperature is but it is plenty cold. We camp in 90-100 degree temp with high humidity.

RE: 5th wheel verses travel trailer

I found a 5th wheel a more stable tow. I found I had a larger heavier tow and a larger more expensive truck to tow it with. I found the 5th wheel harder to back up. I found more space in the 5th wheel. I found the bigger you go the fewer campsites available and the more fuel was burned. I have since found happiness in a smaller trailer with a smaller truck as a tv. We use our rig to travel and camp. It has everything we need and want in a small package. Just the two of us. We are happy campers.

RE: Generator for Rving, any recommendation please?

We have two. Honda 3000i and Westinghouse 2000i. Both very dependable thus far. Honda is heavy. Westinghouse is more portable. If buying today. I would get a Westinghouse 2500i. That should start and run a 13500 btu AC and be fuel efficient as well as quite.

RE: Water from a/c air return

Wondering if air pressure in reverse would work rather than water. OURS NORMALLY DRAINS IN THE WHEEL WELLS. WOULD APPLYING AIR PRESSURE THERE open the drain.

RE: Do Ineed to adjust (lower) my hitch?

TT should be level or slightly nose down. Size your drop accordingly.

RE: Is Friction Sway Enough

You shd be ok with both. I think you mean 350 lbs on tongue weight or there about. Get a ball hitch with the small sway ball tab on the side. You won't need the big heavy adjustable head with sway bar seats. We have pulled 19 ft Airstream all over US with Toyota 4 Runner and Toyota Tacoma neither of which had WD. If you want to use two friction bars you will need to get a welder to weld the second tab on the draw bar.

RE: propane fire pit operating cost and connection to TT

We have the little red campfire in a can. I don't know how long it will last on a 20 lb tank but it with be a long time. It has its own regulator. So you hook it to your onboard tank. 65,000 btu output.

RE: Closed bathrooms at national parks

Time to close it totally if people can't conduct themselves properly. As 2oldman stated everything has consequences.

RE: I-40 traverse from Asheville, NC to Gatlinburg, Tn

Concerning your campground selection. Twin Creek is a nice campground but tight. It is close to downtown Gatlinburg. We have stayed there many times mostly with smaller campers but once in 35 ft MH. Again very tight. Pine Mtn is very very nice and only a few years old. Has very clean showers and restrooms. Easy to get into and wide roads. Long pull throughs. Is located back off the strip so town hustle and noise is not a problem. It is located on the Gatlinburg end of PigonForge so if you want to go there the drive is only about 6 miles.

RE: 2016 Jeep Wrangler Set Up

Take your current skid plate off take it to a metal shop and ask them to make you one out of 1/4 inch aluminum. OR. Go to the various Wrangler JK forums and look in the "for sale" pages. Many times they are free. Also join those forums and run a "Wanted" post. Go to Jeep shops and see if they have a take off for sale. We have owned 5 Wranglers and Jeep owners enjoy helping other owners and are constantly building.

RE: 2016 Jeep Wrangler Set Up

Skid plate. A semi flat piece of sacrificial metal use to protect. Not that big of a deal.

RE: Portable pellet smoker

Get a smoker box. Small light weight and can be used with current equipment. Also really inexpensive.

RE: I-40 traverse from Asheville, NC to Gatlinburg, Tn

A few curves and very little up and down. You should have no problem with that route. We drove it last spring. Visited relatives in Asheville and then went to PF/Gatlinburg for some rest.
