Help planning a Washington State/Oregon trip

Good afternoon- We are planning a 2 week trip to Washington State and Oregon in late June and early July, from Michigan. Because of the time frame and required drive time, we won't be camping, we're going to fly and find hotels/AirBnB/etc. What I'm wondering is which state is best to fly into and where to stay. I do know we are visiting Rainier NP, Olympic NP and North Cascades NP while in Washington, as well as the ocean. How many days would you suggest visiting each? We almost camped in Washington a couple of years ago, and I do remember that there isn't a good central point for visiting all 3 NPs, so I'm looking for somewhere to stay close to each. In Oregon we'll be visiting Crater Lake NP, and looking for other suggestions for areas to visit. Any suggestions are appreciated! Thanks in advance for the help guys. You've all been awesome helping us plan vacations to places we're not familiar with in the past, so I hope this one is the same!

RE: Yosemite/Kings Canyon/Sequoia National Parks

We stayed in El Portal CA to visit Yosemite, and in Three Rivers CA to visit Sequoia/Kings Canyon. Also did a couple days in/near Santa Cruz to visit the coean. One of our favorite trips to date! Both NP areas were perfect for visiting the parks! Probably 10-15 minutes max away from the park entrances in both places. We stayed at the Yosemite Cedar Lodge for Yosemite NP. Nice hotel, a little run down but there are only a few options close to Yosemite, and it worked well for us. I'd suggest getting the family suite w/ balcony. It was great to sit out there in the morning and evening looking right at the mountains! Note : Mariposa CA is about 20-25 minutes away, and has a grocery store and restaurants that are WAAAAAY better priced than anything near Yosemite. There are no grocery stores (the hotel has some groceries but the prices are insane) and only 2 restaurants (at hotels) in El Portal and near Yosemite, and the prices are insane. Do yourself a favor and drive to Mariposa and buy whatever groceries you need, and there are a lot of restaurant options at better prices as well. Also gas is way cheaper in Mariposa than the 1 station btwn El Portal and Yosemite. We stayed at Comfort Inn & Suites in Three Rivers and loved it. Great pool and hot tub, free hot breakfast, and has quite a few restaurants close. We also went on a "family fun float" whitewater rafting trip while there w/ Mountain Descents are highly recommend that too! You can also rent a house boat on the Lake in Three Rivers, tho we didn't get to do that because they were already all booked. Yosemite required 2-3 days to see everything and do some hikes, you could do Sequoia and KC in 1 day each if needed, which is what we did. We then did 2 days in Santa Cruz CA which I HIGHLY recommend as well. There's an amusement park right on the ocean that the kids really enjoyed, as well as the pier and awesome shopping. We stayed in the Watsonville Holiday Inn here, since is way WAY cheaper than staying in Santa Cruz. 15-20 minute drive to Santa Cruz but saved quite a bit. Another very nice and clean hotel. Best of luck planning, we had a blast!

RE: Yosemite/Kings Canyon/Sequoia “must do” advice sought

I also probably should have mentioned where we’re staying. For Yosemite we’ll be at Cedar Lodge, El Portal. For Sequoia/Kong’s Canyon , Comfort Inn in Three Rivers. Looking for suggestions on day trips too. You guys are awesome!

RE: Yosemite/Kings Canyon/Sequoia “must do” advice sought

Sorry guys, I forgot to mention we aren’t camping. Just asking here cuz you guys have been so great in the past! To save the 8 days round trip drive time from Michigan we’re flying and already have accommodations at Yosemite and Seq/KC. We’ll just grab a hotel somewhere near the coast for a night or 2 when we visit.

Yosemite/Kings Canyon/Sequoia “must do” advice sought

Hey all- We have 4 days near Yosemite and 4 near Sequoia/Kings from 6/29-7/7. Just looking for “must do/see” things in and around those areas. Also, if we want to visit the Pacific, which would you suggest traveling from to do that? Also, where would you suggest staying for a night near the ocean? Thanks in advance for your time and suggestions!

RE: Yosemite/Kings Canyon/Sequoia National Parks

So guys, I've been checking and it looks like there aren't many options below $500/night cabin rentals. I'm looking for a hotel or camper rental, probably one near Yosemite and another near Sequoia. Sound right? Any good options y'all know of?

RE: Yosemite/Kings Canyon/Sequoia National Parks

If you are flying in (to where??) ~~ Will you be renting a car OR an RV.. JM2¢ ~~ YMMV Flying into wherever makes sense and renting car. We love camping but its not realistic w/ the short time frame we have. The drive would be about 3 days each way so it doesn't make sense in a 10 day trip.

Yosemite/Kings Canyon/Sequoia National Parks

Hey y'all- I already asked for some input on our big summer trip, but plans have changed with the wife's new job. We now have about 10 days (late June/early July) and want to visit the parks above. My initial checking seems there isn't really one place to make a home base to day trip to these parks. We're going to fly and either get cabins/hotel so we have 7 full days to check out the area. Is there somewhere that's a good base to see at least 2 of the parks as day trips, or better to stay near each for a couple nights? We're just trying to figure out the best way to visit all 3. Thanks in advance!

Trip planning help - Dakotas and Minnesota National Parks

Hello all- The time of year has come for us to plan our July camping trip. We've been visiting National Parks, and have decided we want to visit Bad Lands, Wind Cave, Theodore Roosevelt and Voyageur National Parks during the first 2 weeks of July (yes we know it's busy then, we've been doing this time frame for 12+ years :) ). I'm hoping to find a nice campground in between Bad Lands and Wind Cave so we can visit those parks from one base camp. Then I'll need a nice CG near each of the other 2 parks. We'll have 16 days for this trip. We need full hookups at each CG and prefer to have pools at each as well. Any help is appreciated! FYI we've been to most of the other National Parks close to these already, so we won't need to check those out. We're looking for awesome CGs and things to do in those areas. We usually limit day trips to about 1 - 1 1/2 hours from camp. Thanks in advance!

Gatlinburg TN winter to do

Hey guys- We traded our Florida timeshare for a week in Pigeon Forge from 12/30-12/6. We've been RV camping there a couple times in warmer weather, but not in winter (have a condo this time). We will definitely hit Ober Gatlinburg to ski for a day, hit GSMNP for a day or 2, and hit some touristy activities in Sieverville, Gatlinburn, and Pigeon Forge. Just wondering if there are any day trips within maybe 1 1/2 hours that you'd suggest. Thanks!!
