RE: 50 AMP and plugging in at home

I installed a 30A outlet in my garage and have no trouble running one AC unit. With care (not starting them simultaneously) I can run two. Or I can run one and the fridge.

RE: TST - what am I missing?

Camping World and Gander Mountain are owned by the same parent company now. As to why they are so much cheaper: no idea. On sale? Loss leader? It is the same product (based on product code) as other vendors.

RE: Solar Sanity check (SSC?)

I am about to install two 12V 200W panels on my RV next weekend. It looks like I could easily put 6 of them up there and, if I'm careful, I could have 8 on the roof. That is 1600W of solar panels! I would have to use an MPPT controller at those levels, of course. I'm starting with just 400W for now and will watch the Victron 712 battery monitor I'm installing this weekend to judge what I need.

RE: Solar Sanity check (SSC?)

Remember that a residential refrigerator figured by EPA to run 1/3 of the time, so figure 4-5A for 20 minutes per hour. Best to err on the high side. As azrving noted it might be better to leave the inverter on and run the fridge all night. With the cooler overnight temperatures the fridge shouldn't cycle as often or as long as during the day. Before starting I would install a Victron battery monitor and figure out exactly what you use. Then you can size your system appropriately. Although you might be in "full sun" for 8 hours many of those hours the sun will be at a lower angle (and going through more atmosphere) reducing your solar efficiency. Even here in Florida the standard calculation is 4.4 hours of full (direct) sun despite 8+ hours of sunlight. Also take into account the angle of the sun to the panels unless you install tilting mounts. Without knowing all the details which a good battery monitor will give you about your current usage (pun intended) it is difficult to say if 400W on the roof will be enough. It might be. And maybe you need 600-800W. You could look at installing four 180-200W panels and use a (more expensive) MPPT charge controller.

RE: How Hard Is It To Solo In A Class A?

The only time I have any challenge backing up my RV solo is in the dark with no overhead lights during a heavy rainstorm.

RE: How Hard Is It To Solo In A Class A?

A friend of mine is a solo woman full-timing in a 40' Tiffin Phaeton. No problem!

RE: We last did this in June of 2017 Let's do it again!

Canadian Maritime provinces - New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. We decided to visit again this year. My brother decided to come along in his RV. A friend asked if should could join us in her RV. Next thing I knew we are organizing a group of 16 RVs and we had to turn down almost that many more!

RE: Perry Georgia Rally in March (FMCA)

RE: Jeep toad rides to rough.

And that's why we tow a Jeep Grand Cherokee with QuadraLift and QuadraTrac II. Maybe I can't do the extreme rocks but it does quite well on the trails I want to ride. Not all Jeeps ride the same. And not all Jeeps are Wranglers.

RE: RV Insurance

I pay less for my RV with National General than I pay for my toad with State Farm. I think I need to get them to quote car insurance!
