12v? 24v? 36...48v????

I'm very near to picking up a new travel trailer that I intend to pack with solar and LiFePO4 batteries. It's a 30A 120VAC RV. I understand the electrical wiring advantages of the higher DC voltage configuration, but what does everybody do with their 12v appliances? I'm hoping for around 1500 watts of solar and no less than 1000Ah of 12v batteries. Is there a good reason not to stick to a 12v configuration?

RE: Tankless water heater

I currently have a 6 gl water heater. It doesn't make enough hot water to do dishes and for 2 people to shower. I live in my trailer year round and am hooked to city water. I would like to install a bigger water heater, but I don't want to have to cut anmy holes into the side of my trailer.I use my trailer for travel, often off grid. Tankless wouldn't work for me at all. Your situation sounds like the tankless might work better, assuming full hookups. The research I've done shows tankless heaters and 6 gallon heaters are often almost identical in size. It doesn't look like it would be difficult to do the swap. Good luck!

RE: stairs

They belong in the same dump as the tankless water heaters.

RE: How much of rise on front of truck acceptable when hitched?

See this thread - at least the first post by my friend Ron Gratz (may he rest in peace). BarneyRon's posts were almost intimidating! I loved 'em. I didn't know he passed. :(

RE: Do we have a pickup glut already?

I've finally accepted that it will be much cheaper to drive my current pickup into the ground, repairing as needed along the way. I don't like it, but I'm not paying the BS prices they're asking these days. And I'm not holding my breath waiting for this glut to have a positive impact.

RE: Tankless water heater

I'm having to really restrict my options as I look for new travel trailer that DOES NOT have a tankless. I can see zero value in them. If you do the swap, I would recommend hanging on to the original.

RE: Coating peeling off seats

I don't remember where I read it but this was supposedly a particular manufacturer issue, and has been corrected within the last couple years. Yeah, I know.... LOL

RE: Ram 1500 can it tow Keystone 280BH??

If it's within specs, and considering your upgrades, I would go for it. You may want to consider a high end sway controlling WDH. I'm actually in the same boat right now with my Ram 1500. I've been instructed to purchase a little longer than I had planned so we can accommodate kids and grand kids.

RE: Ram 1500 owners.... tires

I ran 305/55r20s on a 1.4" lift on my 2015 Ram Quad Cab. It's not really a lift at all when it comes to clearance issues. In fact a coworker had a similar Ram that sat at virtually the same height with no lift at all. My wheels had 3/4" less back spacing though, which means they stuck out that much more. That really should only affect clearance of the upper ball joint which is pretty close. I bet the dealer would test fit a tire to see how close everything is. Unless you're talking about a taller tire. I think people routinely run 275/65r20 on stock rims with no lift. That's about an inch taller. Dunno if you can go more than that or not. Once again a test fit might tell you all you need to know.

RE: Vent fan upgrades

That's the direction I'm leaning. Thanks for the input!

Vent fan upgrades

I'm on the verge of purchasing a new travel trailer. It has three roof vents with the tiny little fans. Upgrades will be in order ASAP. Looking for recommendations. I may do the Vortex version in the bathroom, but am looking at the nicer ones for the bedroom and living area. I'm handy enough but totally ignorant to all the new options out there. Looking for suggestions on quality units and advice on install considerations.

RE: 2024 GMC and 2023 Super Duty

Yes Fish, he had a trans on the floor. Worked fine!. But had an oil leak in gasket. Took in to fix before warranty went out. Mechanically, worked fine. Both of you are stretching the truth some. IMHO, both of you are also false in comment. Get over it. Marty LIKE! :C

Non-issue. It'll take a loooong time for this particular sky to fall.

I've had great experiences with Woot, even after Amazon bought them. I don't think I've ever bought something that expensive though.

RE: Snoozy Resurrection

If I was doing a rather small trailer, I would seriously look at one of those. Be aware that they're pure electric, no propane. Gonna need a generator or lots of solar/batteries.

RE: How to stay warm in cold weather.

My son has been living in our smallish trailer (24ft) in our back yard for a few months now. I winterized it to safeguard the plumbing. A cube heater keeps that entire trailer roasty toasty. We've had temps down in the single digits and have pretty much been below freezing for over a month now. He has yet to turn the heater on higher than the halfway point. Interestingly, no humidity issues at all.

Mini-split: How to install the interior piece

It's a lighter duty trailer. I'm interested in hanging the interior portion where the bedroom TV would be in a front bed arrangement. I would guess it's a little heavier than a TV, but would be secured directly to the wall vs. on an arm like a TV. It's an outside wall, and I have no idea how the manufacturers strengthen the TV locations. The trailer has aluminum framing. All my old trailers were wood framed. What's the difference as far as hanging a significant weight on the wall?
