RE: Foolish Things We’ve Done as Kids

Let's see. This firecracker didn't go off, it's okay to hold in hand. Right, until it went off. We didn't need a padded dash. Grandmom had a 57 Chevy Impala. The back window dash was big enough to sleep in while riding to somewhere. Let's ride in the back of Granddad's pickup and throw tomatoes at stuff. Let's throw firecrackers at cars going down the street. Unfortunately one landed on the windshield of a car. When we got home, found out it was the fire chiefs car and he knew where we lived. Real small town in Texas. Oh so much more...

RE: 1995 Bounder 36' increasing towing cap 3500 to 5,000 lbs

Adding a larger capacity hitch will not increase the tow capacity of the MH. The engine, transmission, brakes, frame, etc go into calculating the tow capacity which is provided by the manufacturer. You can search how to increase tow capacity. As for the Explorer, it cannot be towed on a tow dolly as it is a rear wheel drive vehicle when not in 4 wheel. Check the owners manual for recreational towing procedures. There are other factors to consider for towing. Year, transfer case, transmission, etc. Just my two cent opinion..

RE: WHAT dinghy or toad is good to tow ???

I have a 07 Jeep Liberty. Looking to get a Jeep Wrangler. If in a hurry, can unhook in less than 5 min. Easy to hook up too. Blue Ox base plate and tow bar. Demco Stay n Play break assist.

Shower walls

Has anyone replaced their shower walls? I have a crack in mine and want to replace it. It is a corner unit. What did you use? I looked at Lowes and found a residential surround. I know I will have to figure out the faucet stuff and I have an idea about that.

RE: Cost to install apparatus for Flat-towing

I use the Demco (SMI) Stay and Play brake system. It stays in place. Flip and on/off switch when hooking up. Works great.

RE: tax writeoffs for full timers who work from road

Hi Folks need advice from those who have experiencewith this issue. My wife and i are full timers, and we both have businesses. (she sells buttons & designer fabrics, I do websites and e-marketing consulting) We are wondering how people in our situation are handling such things as rv park and camping fees, fuel costs, maintenance, repairs. We have chosen not to write off the actual cost of the rv. And, does anyone know of any other online resources for info, eg technomadia? thanks!! You need a new tax guy. He should know or get the information you need. for publications. This is for all who are self-employed: Get Publications 334, 535, and 529. These will answer those questions. It is what I use for all that stuff. I do not rely on a "tax professional" only. My CPA is often called with questions. You may also have local and state taxes to deal with. This will depend on where your clients and maybe you are when conducting business. Example: if you are in California and earn money they want their cut... When in doubt check it out.. ---------- I am a retired IRS Revenue Officer and an Enrolled Agent. I offer the above as an individual and it is not legal or professional advice. It is what I do. (Note this is kind of a standard disclaimer for tax professionals)....

RE: Cost to install apparatus for Flat-towing

We tow a Jeep Liberty and purchased a Blue Ox baseplate and towbar with everything needed for about 2500.00 installed. Works great. This included the Demco SMI Stay and Play brake assist.

RE: Iowa Campgrounds

I've been reading several articles and an RV group on Facebook about the Covid-19 stuff. There is a lot of information being presented. Some good but most is not. IMO. Facebook is not a reliable news source. IMO. This post is my opinion and most are not going like most of this. Too bad. I realize that there are carriers of this virus, as with the flu and others, that are unaware. But there does not need to be any berating of people. If you berate then you are .......... These stay at home orders come from people we elected. They are listening to others. They are NOT using common sense. "Locking down" a state and expecting the streets to be vacant like those in a 1950s nuclear war movie is not going to happen. Many RV parks and campgrounds have been closed. Why not apartment complexes? RVs in a campground or RV park are probably more "stay at home" because there are no hallways to navigate. Fulltimers, or even those that are part time, are like apartment dwellers. They just take the apartment with them. There is more I'd say but.. Stay safe..

RE: Mh Interior 12 volt LEDs

I found my 194 (wedge base) LED replacement lights at Menards (area hardware/home improvement store). Bought one bulb at first then after trying it bought the rest to replace all of the bulbs...

RE: Dinnette

I took the dinette out and put a free standing table and chairs. Search for RV furniture or surplus RV furniture. is one place I found. The one I took out was made of 2x2 framing and plywood for the seating area. Easy to make.

RE: Parking in Jacksonville, FL Wal Mart

With RV Parky you have to look at comments and the date. Even if it says allowed, the Wal-Marts have very recent comments that it is not allowed. I ran into that in the Elkhart area.

RE: Parking in Jacksonville, FL Wal Mart

I just looked at an app I use (RV Parky) and the reviews for the Wal-Marts in Jacksonville say no overnight. There is a Cracker Barrel just off I95 (4680 Lenoir Ave) that says OK to overnight. Further south there is a TA and Pilot that might work.. Hopefully there will be other answers for you....

RE: Repairs and Upgrades

It has been a busy year with all the traveling. This is what I did. Removed everything from the slide and replaced with vinyl plank and regular furniture. Looking for other furniture, but it works for us. Added USB ports (From Amazon), swapped the 28" TV that was changed by the previous owner to a 40", and changed the backsplash. The photo of the slide shows the old light fixture that was replaced. I do as much as I can. Around here no one to do the inside work. The chassis work is done by a place that does commercial trucks and they don't do everything. The local RV shop does their best. Still looking for an ABS module that has been discontinued by the manufacturer and need the slide adjusted.. Trying to figure out why an 120v outlet in the BR wont work... If it is not one thing it is another. Have fun and keep RVing.....

RE: Busy year

I think it was from Shopko but could have been Wal-Mart. It sits over some "vents" but would let whatever pass through. there is nothing holding it in place. It will move if I slam on the breaks...but then so does everything..

RE: Busy year

We wanted to change the couch. You know the fabric style was horrible and the hide a bed was worse than sleeping in a tent on the ground.. So the carpet had to go. We are looking for more suitable chairs for the slide. The table and chairs work for us at this point.. One thing leads to another.

Repairs and Upgrades

I follow three RV forums and have noticed a something. Mostly with basic repairs. What I see is people posting help questions (which is good) but it looks like common sense, remove and replace with new, has disappeared. I guess what I'm saying is don't make it harder than it is. If your bathroom sink faucet needs replaced, what do you do? I removed the one in the MH and took it to Menard's (Lowe's, Home Depot, etc) and discovered the threads were the same as a standard residential faucet. Bought a new one and installed. I did have to make sure the base plate was skinny enough. Replaced a light fixture with one I bought from Lowe's. I did have to find a 12 volt screw in light bulb (found at Menard's and on line). The wiring. White to White, Black to Black. Fixture installed The box The bulb..
