RE: Ram Reduces Max Tow Ratings

So is Ram going to explain this or will it just be wild speculation by everyone else?

RE: What did you do to your Camper Today?

I spent a week in the snow in my TC sitting on the ground. Truck was getting some work done. Bought a Vornado electric heater and it performed quite well. Nearly silent compared to the turbo fan the unit uses for circulating air under around the holding tanks. I wired up a 140mm computer fan on the outlet side that constantly circulated air down below. Coldest day was in the teens with gusty wind. Had to supplement with propane heat a couple of times, but I barley used any propane in 10 days on the road.

RE: 1st night camping in our yard, 2023.01.24

We always make lists. After the first shake down run we had a number of items that we deemed worthy of addition. Now a decade later its all second nature. We keep our RV stocked with everything needed. Just stock the fridge and hit the road.

RE: Dometic ceiling fan inoperable

If you pull the surround trim from the fan, you can likely find the wires that feed it. Look for where the wires are tied and make sure they are connected, most crimp connectors or wire nuts can be probed with a meter to check voltage.

RE: F450 Lariat Ultimate package?

My 2019 F450 was a capable platform, but the aluminum bed is a weak spot. Not a show stopper but if your planning on a heavy camper, that bed will show a few bent or sagging spots if you ever drive on crappy roads with lots of transitions.
I loved my F450 as a stable well mannered hauler. Now that I have a Ram 5500, its very stable and carries the load even better.
Both had stiff tires and suspension that would let you know every big bump you hit.
I pay quite a bit more for the 5500 insurance. My F450 was weighing 15600 at the last weight. Full water and loaded for travel. Well over legal. My 5500 weighed 16700. 2800 lbs below payload.
The bed is longer and supports more of the camper. Lots more storage both below and above the bed is possible. That alone makes it a very positive choice for me.
Now add new suspension and its even better.

RE: 2023 F550 Order Options

I feel the F450 had a bit tighter turning radius since it has a slightly shorter wheelbase. I am not disappointed with the Ram yet but honestly I have only done one trip. Over the next few weeks I will get more time to gain more experience. Since I bought it, it has pretty much sat as I had other projects to focus on.

RE: 2023 F550 Order Options

No I will be keeping my Ram 5500. Too much invested in it. My only real complaint with it is it does not track as well as my F450. I will be taking it in for an alignment soon and that should help. I was just curious if Ford finally will have more features for F550's. Being a long time Ford guy switching to Ram has been a bit weird.
Maybe in 5 years or so I might consider switching back. But more likely I will be used to the Ram and happy with it.

2023 F550 Order Options

Ford has still not updated the website for online configuration. I see some have been able to order. My question is will trim levels above mid Lariat be available now?

RE: 550 / 5500 insurance???

Interesting I started with USAA who covered my F450. They did the progressive quote but it was several hundred more than State Farm. It may vary from state to state.

RE: 550 / 5500 insurance???

I just went through that with my 2022 Ram 5500. My state registered it as a non commercial vehicle but USAA and State Farm would only cover it as a commercial truck since it had a flat bed. State farm was quite a bit cheaper but well over twice what I was paying for my F450.
Hope this helps some.
I went with a CM SK bed and have been eyeing Stable Campers boxes as well. So far I really like the added storage.

RE: Toads

Its rare for a salesman to actually know much about what they are selling at dealerships. See if you can find an owners manual online or when looking at the car, spend time looking in the actual one.

RE: Camping off the truck

Well I happen to have part of a sheet of 3/4" plywood. I can cut 8 12x12 pieces and use two under each foot. Thanks for all the help. Never having set it on anything but concrete and seeing all the rain they have been getting I just wanted to be sure it was not going to sink.

RE: Camping off the truck

Now I am thinking about using 1/4 x 12 x 12" steel plate. That should spread the load enough. My camper has a basement and we often have it sitting in our shop and use it. Pretty sure its not going to have issues with sagging floors.

Camping off the truck

I'll be having work done on my truck soon and plan to set the camper off in a campground and staying there for a week or two. My biggest concern is its gravel and there has been a lot of rain. I am looking for ideas on how to best keep any jacks from sinking in potential soft areas.
I considered 2x12's but my luck is one would split and sink. I am a chronic overthinker. Any clever ideas?

RE: Broken Frame on a RAM 3500

I know my Arctic Fox 1140 center of gravity mark was just a couple of inches in front of my F450 axle. If that guy has put a 2x6 across the front for the bump stops to hit, it could possibly be real close.
I bet all things being equal, he just lost the frame quality lottery.

RE: Can I charge the house battery with the engine alternator?

Look at Victron Energy Orion DC to DC chargers. Depending on how many amps your alternator puts out, they likely have one that will work.

RE: Low pressure at RV shower head. What is this?

I've had that conversation with everyone who camps with me. Its there so you don't drain your fresh water and fill your grey tank. Ours has a push button shut off on the head. In my previous RV I removed it and while it was nice to get more water in the stream, I had to empty the grey tank way more often. It also had a shut off. Not an issue at a RV park or home, but when boon docking it was a big detriment.

RE: 2023 Ford 40k towing, 500hp, 1200tq

Might be true but the F450 is only available with the Diesel, so if it is an error, they should change it soon!
I went on Fords site and after verifying the F450 does raise the price by $12495 when checking HO started a chat with them. They should have the issue resolved soon.
