RE: COVID PERSONAL EXPERIENCES

My wife and I both contracted covid-19 delta variant tested positive on 8/17/21 and both hospitalized on 8/23/21. My wife's condition was not so bad and she was discharged from hospital on 8/29/21.Now as for me, I ended up on as much as 13 liters(LPM) per minute oxygen. I guess I had it as bad as one could have it without going on a ventilator. I was hospitalized till 9/9/21 then moved to a therapy unit for 15 more days. I was hospitalized 3 more times due to long term covid pneumonia. Now I have recovered but I have ended up with bilateral lung damage or fibrosis bottom of both lungs. I am on 3 to 4 LPM which can run as high as 5 to 6 LPM if I do anything strenuous, probably for life.
We have actually gone boondocking a couple of times but due to my oxygen requirements only stayed 2 or three days. It just became to much of a hassle with the O2 having to be a constant requirement, took all the fun out of it. We did go to a full hookup campground also which was much better not having to run generator as much but still the oxygen requirement was there anytime we went anywhere.
I do have a plan for this coming spring, I refuse to give up. I currently rely on my Inogen One G3 when out away from bottles or the O2 concentrator. The G3 has a max setting of 5 LPM but it's a pulse setting so it's more like 4 LPM's so I intend to purchase a new Inogen G5 with a pulse setting of 6. I am hoping to be able to actually do some wondering around using the G5 and be able to get the O2 I need.

RE: Dumb Things We Did as Kids on 4July

4 July was one of my favorite holidays as a kid growing up in East Tennessee and born in 1950. Firecrackers, Lady Fingers, M80's and Cherry Bombs were just a few fireworks we played with. Never climb pine trees light firecrackers and throw them! Did I mention pine sap is sticky? Almost lost a finger discovering that little tidbit. Don't stick a cherry bomb in a hole in the ground then go back to inspect the damage only to find out the hole was a very mad yellow jacket nest. We did things back in the day that probably would get todays kids in very big trouble.

RE: Boondocking on Oxygen Can it Be Done?

I have used the generators many times over the years so I am hoping they won't present a problem. I will keep two full E bottles to get me home. The only thing that is a unknown is altitude, we live at 3963 feet ASL the campsite is at 7700. Think we may make a day trip up to one of our favorite areas, Sonora Pass at 10,000 ASL. If I can get around there with oxygen then I should be ok.
The Covid pneumonia is what did my lungs in but I am getting better a little bit at a time. Not being able to get up in the high country would really depress me. I am using that as my motivator.

Boondocking on Oxygen Can it Be Done?

Anyone tried it? I have good back up and plan on staying within 3 hours from home. Keeping two size E bottles as reserve to get home. I've got a portable battery powered concentrator with two large batteries also a regular 10 litre concentrator which requires AC power. Two Honda 2000 watt generators and 300 watts portable solar. Last but not least a 1000 watt Jackery power station.
Lot of stuff just to be able to breath!

RE: Impact of fuel prices on travel

I guess I have to jump in here. Diesel is currently $4.87 which is way, way to much! We are lucky I guess because one of our absolute favorite National Forest CG's is only 125 miles from home. We have stayed there many times over the years so I think we can squeak in a few trips to there this year. I really hate to advertise but I am sure I will be asked so here is the name "Bootleg". It right off US 395 in the Walker River Canyon, great place.
