RE: Lithium battery box temps

I use YoLink temp sensors (and leak sensors) in a number of places around the RV. This setup may not be for everyone since it requires a YoLink smart hub and WiFi/internet connection, but we are full-time and have an unlimited hotspot on all the time. The YoLink equipment is very affordable but, if WiFi and internet are an issue, there are plenty of good alternatives for weather units with multiple sensors available on Amazon, or at your local home improvement store. The advantage to the YoLink stuff is that there is a phone app and the hub sends me alerts if there are leaks or if the temp drops below my set point near the water utilities in the basement. I no longer have a temp monitor in the front compartment with the batteries since I have thermostatically-controlled heating pads on two of them and the two newer batteries are the internally heated ones (all Battle Born). Lots of good reading here: RVmobileinternet.com You can subscribe to get to more detailed stuff, too (I have a subscription and it has been worth it). Rob

RE: Alternative to bumper sewer hose carrier

The RhinoFlex won't fit in one of the made-to-purpose under-frame tubes with the 90 deg. elbow attached, either. Like IAMICHABOD, I keep the main hose and other fittings in a large RubberMaid tub in the basement while on the road. I keep extensions in the two under-frame tubes that came on our rig. Rob

RE: Eagle vs Montana High Country vs Avenue

Have you looked at the Grand Design product line? I believe they are a bit better than the ones you listed. Ken Thanks for the suggestion. I have looked at GD, and they are in the running. There are 2 things I don't like, I don't like the dark cabinets (23's are lighter, but wanting a closeout), and I want a residential fridge, I don't trust that Furrion 12v fridge. All of the Solitudes are available with a full-size, 120VAC residential refrigerator. We have one in ours. Rob

RE: HELP: Suburban SW12DEL propane issue

I'm not sure the drip and the burner problem are related. Could the gas problem be a failing valve - like the solenoid not able to hold the valve open as long as it needs to? Do your furnace and cooktop work OK? Rob

RE: Hard tasting water

The Camco filters won't take care of bad tastes. Brita is a cult (they quit letting Consumer Reports test their products because of inconsistent results not meeting the claims of the manufacturer). The best advice above is to put a separate filter underneath your kitchen counter with a spigot on top and use this filter cartridge: Link Rob

RE: MorRyde IS & Disc Brakes

We've had the MORryde IS and disc brakes installed on two fifth wheels. As full-timers who travel a lot (rather than staying in one place) I wouldn't be without it. If my Google search pulled correct information, the GVWR for your fifth wheel is 10,122 lbs. - a bit on the light side for even the 7K MORryde suspension units. If I were in your shoes, I'd have the disc brakes installed and pass on the $6,500+ for the IS. Rob EDIT: OK - apparently you updated your RV info while I was typing. What I said, but the decision on the IS is yours. We really like it.

RE: Lo height profile 5er TH

With fifth wheels, the height is in the front by default (gooseneck goes up over the truck bed and, if you want standing headroom in the front, it has to be a certain height). Most modern 5th wheel toy haulers come in around the 13'3" - 13'5" range. If you want shorter, you may have to consider a travel trailer toy hauler. Rob

RE: Can you mount solar above vents?

In the summer, attic vents exhaust heat. Solar panels generate, and therefore have to dissipate, heat. I would not mount a solar panel over an attic vent. Rob

RE: More and more instant hot water systems

One problem with the on-demand WHs I don't see mentioned above is the fact that, since they are not constantly heated, they're not well-suited for use in very cold temps (they will freeze and crack the heat exchanger). Winterizing has to be done carefully to not have the same thing happen during winter storage. I'm in the "what were they thinking" camp (pun or not as you prefer) as far as using them in RVs and will stick with our 12 gal. tank-style WH, thank you. Rob

RE: Visible Phone Hotspot

From a tech trade rag: "Visible limits mobile hotspot data speeds to 5Mbps—most carriers don’t have speed limits for hotspot usage. Visible only allows you to connect one device at a time—the single connection makes sense, though, considering that the 5Mbps speeds don’t really support multiple devices." Rob

RE: Likely to regret

I'll have to agree with everyone above. I've always coveted a Freightliner SportChassis (quite a bit smaller than your truck), but even it would be overkill for our 15K fiver. The F350 dually does the job just fine. You also don't say what state you live in and getting the truck to where you can register it as an RV (if your state allows it) is extra trouble. Rob

RE: How do I know what kind of heating is in the caravan?

Truma makes tankless water heaters. The main heating systems in RVs are LP/Propane furnaces. The heat source is the LP and the fan and thermostat operate on 12VDC from the battery. Rob

RE: Good potable water hose?

@Second, I choked on the price of that winter hose. Still getting used to this. Thanks to all. I agree - pretty steep. But the cheaper (think Camco and others) typically don't last more than a couple of winters and often have a terrible plastic taste. If you are full-time, as we are, and don't run from winter and very cold temps, it's more than worth it. Rob

RE: Good potable water hose?

I use a Camco EvoFlex 35 ft. during warm weather (filter is inside the heated service bay) and this during the winter: NoFreezeWaterHose Both work well. Rob
