RE: Rv TV

My employer doesn't like me to disconnected and sends a mobile hotspot with me when I travel. I use it for work and to stream to a smart tv. Works good.

RE: Locked Out...Sorta

Hope you are headed back to the dealer! It would be complete BS if they did not take care of that any any other little details. I could take it back for about $80 in fuel and 4-5 hours of my time. Or, I can fix it myself for about $20 in parts (OK, $30 including a six pack) and 2-3 hours of my time. Truth! Now, the real question, why on earth would the 2 doors be keyed differently? (I understand latches and deadbolts are generally/always different...also dumb) That would be like keying each door on your house different or each car door if they still had manual key locks. Yet my first 3 trailers all used the exact same key for storage????:S

RE: Locked Out...Sorta

After several tries, WD40 finally did the trick. Thanks for the responses. Now to problem #2. My TV sits crooked on the swing mount and its driving me crazy! :h #3, my shower needs some caulking...easy fix. #4, the front screen door isn't latching...also easy...I think. Its winterized and I'll use the next few months to get it ready for spring. The good news is, after the maiden voyage, these are the only real annoyances. Nothing major. Everything else is working well.

Yes, I have both keys. All other locks work fine.

Locked Out...Sorta

So I picked up my new trailer yesterday and it never fails that little things pop up as you spend time in it. This trailer has two doors, the back being the main entrance. The front door opens fine from the inside. I thought everything was in working order. I went to lock up last night and could not get my key in the top lock. It looks pretty boogered up. I cannot open the door from the outside and I can't figure out how to unlock the top from the inside. The deadbolt works fine. I will replace, but in the meantime....is there a way to unlock it without a key?

RE: Anyone heard of LIV trailers?

I've owned a 17' box with a ceiling mount a/c and disagree. Its the only way to go. And while not the quietest, my 4000w inverter genny weighs 61lbs empty and sips gas. It's pretty easy to throw around.

RE: Anyone heard of LIV trailers?

Great for boondocking. Who wants to haul around a 13.5 btu boat anchor you can't use? Can't use? They do make bigger generators. 3500w runs a 15k a/c just fine.

Nothing says class like a window a/c or fireplace in the hallway....under your kitchen sink. Not sold on this one.

RE: Can 'O Worms: how long can I expect my 5er to last?

Quality has been questionable for the last 50 years. I can attest to that. It's your nostalgia that floors me.

RE: Can 'O Worms: how long can I expect my 5er to last?

As I have my check coming from the sale of my 4th trailer, can't wait to go buy new. The issues that some of you exaggerate are ridiculous. Are there lemons...sure. But most issues on new units are pretty small. SMH.

RE: Can 'O Worms: how long can I expect my 5er to last?

Nobody wants my advice but I'll give it anyway. Don't buy $60-80k rvs. The more you spend, the more you'll lose. It's like investing in a mobile home. It's generally a bad idea. If you have it to blow....more power to you. There are bargain models out there, that are cheaper and sell better used, especially if they can be towed with smaller vehicles. I don't care how well you maintain your 20 yo trailer...nobody wants to buy it except maybe for a deer lease. You won't get a lot of money. Then you get hit with the price of a new one with little to put down from the old. Sell 7-10 yo imo, depending how much you like your unit. Or keep it forever and good luck!

RE: Can 'O Worms: how long can I expect my 5er to last?

Go tothe service dept. of any car dealer and you will find lots of new vehicles that are broke. Newness does not equate to reliabilty. I have a 2003 car that is very reliable. I would not hesistate to drive it anywhere. It has a proven track record and has been bulet proof so far. If you maintain a well built car it will hold up and last 20 years easily. The same can be said for an RV. My RV is 10 years old and while the paint is dull because the clear coat has worn, the RV still has lots of life in it. Keep in mind the clear coat was a poor quality RV finish that simply did not hold up. Again maintenance is the key, Had I done no caulking or no leak fixing my bRV would have been toast years ago. But with constant diligence and preventive maintenance it has lasted this long. The question is do I dump 20K into it at some point to refurbish the entire thing or do I spend 60-80K on a new one? Buy new. Thought that's what I already said.

RE: Can 'O Worms: how long can I expect my 5er to last?

I don't want a 10 y/o car either. You might win the bet. I sincerely hope everything works out to your favor, if that's what you choose to do. BUT the older something gets, the more the odds are against you. You have a higher risk of substantial repair costs. It's just a fact of life. Things get old and break.

RE: Can 'O Worms: how long can I expect my 5er to last?

I wouldn't buy a 10 yo camper, so I want rid of mine by then. Not sure why one would imply the other. Our trailer is going on 12 years old, very reliable, in good shape and we also haven't seen one that has the features the current on has that are important. So I see no reason to get rid of mine, certainly not because it's 10 years old. I think of older trailers being harder to sell and not worth much money if they do. I've seen too many old campers wasting away behind somebody's house. Eventually, you end up with something that isn't worth the money to fix and you can't pay someone to haul off. Each to his own, but I'll keep the rotation going.
