RE: a plea for more cool weather sites for migratory travelers

What you say makes a lot of sense - if most of the campground's sites remain open. What I have found (but due to demand you have to book many months in advance) are campgrounds that fully close most of the sites. The remaining sites are generally close to the office and very likely only provide electric. Staffing is generally the owner(s) and MAYBE one person for part-time phone coverage. Minimal plowing, minimal maintenance - they would keep the office accessible regardless if open or closed. Showers as well as other park amenities are closed. You might be able to get water jugs filled from inside the office. As I said, the few campgrounds that offer this do a brisk business with their limited sites. I wish more campgrounds offered this service. I don't believe very many campgrounds will find it economically viable to keep a couple or handful of sites near the office open yr round. If it was, they WOULD already be doing that everywhere.. I see your from Texas, up here in PA, pretty much all campgrounds close, even ones that are setup with permanent lot leases. It is not unusual to have a winter storm sock roads in with a lot of drifting snow along with ice.. I live on a pretty busy rural road and there have been a lot of times over the years I called off from work when I woke up to 6" of fresh snow on a bed of 1/4" thick ice that happened overnight and no sign of a plow and salt truck for hrs.. Heck vehicles often get stuck on the hill below my home every winter.. If you think a campground can "operate" and still turn a profit on one or two "overnighters" in the middle of winter, I would suggest perhaps you may have a good business plan to start your own chain of "overnight" campgrounds across the US and have a go at it. Find a few small gas stations and pitch your idea and give it a spin, charge $10 for one night and split it with the station.. But for larger campgrounds doing this, I suspect if they really thought they could turn a profit they would have been doing it for yrs. Your plea won't even be considered. Some of the PA state parks, east of the mountains, have a loop open all winter. Most in the mountains, west side of state, or north close 3rd Sunday in October with a few open through mid December for deer season. Quite a few OH state parks stay open but without water available after mid November. It's not state wide policy, left up-to local managers, so you have to look at the specific parks web page for dates.

RE: My Coach Net experience tonight.

Short story: I tow a Smart car on a dolly. Tonight while loading I ran the front wheels over the front of the dolly. Coach Net denied to help me saying it was an “accident” and was not covered. A towing service wanted $200 to help. Oh well, a nice young fellow stopped and helped me and In about 5min we had it on the dolly correctly. So much for help from Coach Net. They said it was an accident because it was. If a tree blows over and falls on your house, do you call Coach Net? It's not the providers fault you never read your contract.

RE: Tire Recall

The tires are a large lugs and voids LT off road mud terrains (MT) tire. They show many sizes but just one size is in the recall. RE: How many of you own an EV?

Found this about battery replacement. Doesn't say anything about what happens to the worn-out battery. Something to think about as well as cost to replace one. https://www.thedrive.com/guides-and-gear/these-replacement-battery-costs-for-these-six-normal-evs-is-staggeringly-high?fbclid=IwAR3LPeGAhOO-74s44T_9yPZLVMKmF_yMkTvwk1-_d70IK1k6VDWNfjV-Y6k Fwiw Tesla bateries have 8 year 150.000 miles warranty And Used batts can be recycled or reused for other projects such as power storage or iCe to EV car truck conversion https://blog.ucsusa.org/hanjiro-ambrose/the-second-life-of-used-ev-batteries/ A link to facts from a "former contributor" to some internet tree hugging blog/podcast rag lol.

RE: I thought the RV market might be getting soft. I was wrong.

I think you sold at the right time Mr Grit, perhaps even a little late to the dance. The bottom is going to fall out of the RV market in a huge way. How can it not with where inflation is going? Wait until folks look at the next 401K statement they get. This economic fiasco is just getting started. Folks have a chance in November to possibly change the course, I am not optimistic. It took almost two years after 08 for the numbers to reflect the RV Industry crash then. The RV Industry is very good at burying the bad numbers as long as possible, and have propaganda arms in the form of the RVIA and RVDA that do just that.

RE: CARB smog testing motorhomes Every 4months by 2024

It only affects motorhomes that have a GVWR of over 14,000lbs. Which is 100% of class A's, and every class C over @ 24'. If you're gonna drive what is basically a big bus, then yeah you're gonna be treated like your driving a big bus. Evidently so. It's just a matter of time before they impose/mandate more bullsheet towards "heavy duty" pickup trucks, lower the 14K GVW trigger point, and start looking at folks pulling towables. We can't have people destroying the planet in the name of recreation now can we, they need to use tents or a 10' teardrop trailer, no need for a 30' TT or a 38' 5er. I guess you're all for it? Isn't it great having gubmint involved in every single aspect of your life?

RE: Truck Scalping

Everything SpeakEasy said, plus, those who moan that this will never end and that there is some collusion going on... C'mon. Get real. It's a dog eat dog market out there. There is not one manufacturer or dealer out there who would not step on any and all others to get a leg up. This is a fragile truce at best. As soon as supply normalizes, someone will blink. "Hey I can sell for less and beat the other guy out for market share." We will be back to the status quo faster than you can imagine. Yes.

RE: Truck Scalping

Technically the dealer would just like to get his deposit which would constitute "ordering" from the dealer, just not the actual order being placed with Ford lol. I doubt he could even take a deposit considering Ford doesn't even know what options they are going to be offering on the trucks yet for next year, let alone what the pricing is even going to be. The only one constant that we know for sure is that the price will be increasing. A dealer not taking a deposit? Cmon man.

RE: Truck Scalping

I stopped by another Ford dealer today on the other side of town. They had a new F350 DRW Lariat but I assume that was somebody else's as it had no window sticker or anything. You could tell it was new but it was not in the area with the other Super Duties. A salesman was riding around in his little golf cart so I asked him about their situation on F450s. He said they get very few and it's just luck on getting one. He said they were taking orders right now for 2023s and they estimate 8 months and they were pretty consistent on MSRP. No mark-up but no haggling either. I think I may go back to the dealer from yesterday and seriously discuss ordering me either an XL STX or a Lariat. The order window for Ford does not open until somewhere around October 17th for the 2023 Super Dutys. Unless the F450 falls under something different he is lying to you. A sales guy at a dealer lying? That really happens? Cmon man lol. Technically the dealer would just like to get his deposit which would constitute "ordering" from the dealer, just not the actual order being placed with Ford lol.

RE: Tesla Semi truck unveil & test ride set for Oct 26th !

Is ET going green?! Who knows when these two Tesla Semi Trucks will be in our yard! That's right, Ronen bought TWO Tesla Semi Trucks! Not one... But TWO TESLA SEMI TRUCKS!! Ronen wanted to share his experience with you guys. How much money he had to put down to order them, and how much they actually are. How it was getting in contact with Tesla (if there was any), and WHY he decided to bite the bullet and buy two tesla semi trucks!! https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/52348949602_8626e706de_c.jpg video ROFLMAO......You would need to be a total idiot to go through all of that with the amount of info they're providing, let alone laying down that much coin.

RE: How many of you own an EV?

WOW! By the pictures it looks like a dry residential street. The driver lost control? And it is the fault of the shape of steering wheel? Not to mention the friend could of had the driving skills of an idiot to begin with lol. I could however see, after many years of driving with a round steering wheel, grabbing for it in a microsecond reaction to something.

In 8 months the way they keep raising interest rates, and with prices for basically everything going through the roof, you just might be in a better buying position. I expect new vehicle sales to tank at some point.

RE: Dish TV Satellites

. . . the 1000 dishes are being replaced by what they refer to as the hybrid pro dishes. The dish isn't hybrid pro, the LNB is. Really? Most folks refer to the whole assembly as a "dish". But if ya want to split hairs.

RE: New Superduty gas engine for 2023.

Manufacturer 1 upmanship. Ford had the 6.2 as the base, up in displacement from GMs 6.0. GM upped it to the 6.6 for base engine. Ford had to counter. Most folks realize a few 10ths makes little difference but then you have a lot of obsessed fan boys.

RE: Solitude leaning to one side.

FWIW Grand Design is notorious for undersizing the spring packs on their trailers. Along with the frame, axles, so on and so forth. Buyers don't see any of that, they see all the junk plastic Lippert bling GD can install with the savings from the undersized important stuff.

RE: How many of you own an EV?

time2roll, I interpreted your writing to mean that EV's became more risky as time went on. Why wouldnt they? Are EVs also immune to damage from corrosion, vibration/harmonics, age/brittleness, battery cell shorts and everything else an ICE would be subject to except leaking flammable or combustible liquids? I'm sure one of the knuckleheads will be along soon to tell you that EVs get better with age, like wine or bourbon.
