RE: Vancouver, Seward, Anchorage and Fairbanks

Spent 12 days in Alaska and the interior was a disappointment. If I'd been blindfolded and dropped there could not have told you if I was in Michigan or Alaska. Now the coastal areas...........breathless

RE: Tire Rotation

I do a 5 tire rotation this way I get use out of the spare rather than letting it age out on the bumper. I've never had tires age out yet, but I put 8-10K per year on the trailer.

RE: Ford F-250 Brake Controller Install

I also lurk on a Ford website. DO NOT buy the cheap knockoff controller on ebay. There have been 10-12 posts on the Ford forum and all have trouble with the cheap **** working properly. When they bought a real OEM controller all the communication issues went away. If your PC savvy there is a free program called Forscan that allows you to program in the new controller. Just an FYI using the OEM controller allows your ABS unit to coordinate braking with the trailer in panic stops.

RE: Some worry about payload……

In all honestly once I stopped listening to the chickens with their heads cut off running around forums (towing police) and their nauseating ideas of the correct truck and payload to pull a little red wagon my towing experiences became much more enjoyable.

RE: RV park "STANDARDS"

As someone said earlier need to look at a satellite view of the campground along with reviews. As to KOA they run the gauntlet from packed in like cordwood (South Dakota near Mt Rushmore ) To nice wide open areas (east side of Glacier NP) But always clean and well kept up. Geared towards families looking for activities.

RE: Easy way to raise trailer's nose while hitched in campground

Since I use the tongue jack to lift the truck and trailer 6" to put on the equalizer spring bars, I just use the tongue jack and lift the trailer and truck the few inches needed to level it.

RE: DIY 50 amp to 20 amp pigtail

Gittin a little deep and off topic for a simple plug in your block heater question that the conundrum has been solved already. I belong to another, motorcycle related web board where I, along with seven others, perform the job of moderator… I’ve come to the realization that, Eventually, “Off topic” is standard operating procedure in most threads… if the OP continually brings the focus back to center the thread will live on with much relevant information brought forth… As moderator, I humorously pointed out to one of our newer members that the official record was five posts before the thread went completely off the rails… gave him the advice: “keep bringing things back to your original issue and ignore the ‘fluff’…” I guess we should be thankful we got well into page 3 before things began to go sideways… …and, yes, I’m thankful to all those more electrically knowledgeable than myself who kept me from frying my barn/tractor/electrical system… You made it to 3 pages before going sideways because of less "experts" Now if you want to go sideways quickly ask how will my 1/2 ton handle a 8000lb 30 foot travel? (it does well don't listen to forum garbage)

RE: Pulled to the left when being passed by Big Rigs

How and why on Earth did this thread from last August come back alive? If you don't want that to happen, you should close every thread after X number of days. Then watch the membership drift away.

RE: Pulled to the left when being passed by Big Rigs

Is there anything I can do to deal with this or is it just then nature of the beast! Space is your friend. Just a slight increase in the distance between you and the truck makes a huge difference in the effect the bow wave has on you. Slowly move over to the extreme right edge of your lane and you will see a very noticeable reduction in the impact on your rig. I didn't read all 4 pages but this is the best fix!! It is truly amazing if you move 1 foot to the right what an impact it will have.

RE: Propane smell inside trailer...how to best diagnose?

RE: Shopping new tires - is my shop confused or am I?

I would take a hard pass on any Michelin tire. Look for an E rated tire in another name brand. I had Generals on my Excursion and was very happy with them. What happened with Michelin? On these forums they are usually considered one of the best brands.Yeah - Michelins are our go to tire now - and we have been buying tires for a looooong time. Same here. Been using Michelin for over 30 years on my trucks and my wife's various cars and SUVs and never any problem with any of them. And great mileage from them also. Yep same here. Oh well, data point of 1 that had bad luck.

RE: heavier trailer tires and fuel economy

The physical weight of the tires will have no effect on MPG The stiffer construction will have more rolling resistance so it will ding your milage. If you put too much pressure in them for the load carried only the center of the tire will touch the pavement so your milage will go up. Think of pedaling a bike with correct air pressure then over filling them how it gets easier.

RE: If your going to ask for help then you should ************

yeah, plus come back and answer questions and thank people. Imagine calling someone and asking for help and when they answer just hang up. Devil's advocate here... This group and Tow Vehicles are both pretty brutal. So imagine yourself on that hypothetical call asking for help and the response is, "Did you try holding a magnet to the switch behind the fridge, moron? I can't believe people like you keep calling. And did you try searching the call logs first? Stupid people like you keep forgetting to use Google and just call me anyway like I don't have anything better to do." I'd go hold the magnet to the switch and then delete this person's number from my phone instead of calling to say thanks. I've never understood how or why this particular group is so impatient. There's some decent knowledge here, but I don't blame some members for not coming back for follow-up discussion after the way some folks treat them. Some of y'all are halfway intelligent, but are you really good enough to dole out so much disrespect? And does everyone's stuff work so well here that you never have to make those desperate calls for help? Have we all forgotten the feeling of being broke down somewhere or having something go wrong that might jeopardize a trip? It really sucks. Maybe if there were a little more compassion those folks wouldn't leave so pissed. Instead, they get an answer and an earful and they stomp off mad whether their problem is solved or not. And half the time the poor OP isn't even sure if the response was a real solution or just some smartass jerking their chain for a laugh. (Should I really hold a magnet up to the sail switch on my fridge, or am I being punked?) A little patience and empathy might bring some of these folks back for a longer discussion. Well said!!!

RE: Why not jack trailer under the spring plates?

Sounds like the same 'internet' rumors that get passed down from generation to generation.. :) Mitch Forums are the 2022 version of the advice you used to get at your favorite saloon. If you think it's any better because it's from the internet I have some real estate to sell you.

RE: Good Sam membership and Pilot/Flying J RV fuel card

I don't know the answer, but I don't think I'd put all my faith in the brain-trust here. It's worth a call to their customer service to find out for sure. Are you trying to say some of the advice here is no better than what a bartender and his/her patrons would give you after several beers? (I happen to agree with you) Safe travels

RE: Axle Bearing Service - Dos and Dont's???

Don't think it was mentioned but those holes on the face of the brake magnet are wear indicators. When they get worn off time for a new magnet. Remember the strength of an electromagnet depends on the mass of metal. Less metal less braking.

RE: Storage of Fresh Water - How Long

hmmm I only drain at the end of the year and sanitize in the spring. I'm on well water. After reading this thread maybe I should do it more often, but then again it might be like changing your oil every 3000 miles, nice but not necessary.
