RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

I was finally able to get out of work around 3pm. We arrived in Tifton,GA around 9pm and are staying at the I75 RV Park. Perfect place for an overnight stop. All pull throughs so I didn’t have to unhook the Jeep. Will be leaving tomorrow early and hope to be at Riverside by 3pm or so.

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Still trying to get out of work so I can leave. I was supposed to have a meeting with my boss this morning but she got busy and she is now at a client. I am still hoping to get out by 3-3:30pm as I have about a 5 hour drive ahead of me. I already miss Murphy but I know she is in good hands. My mom just texted me this picture of Murphy and Lilly the beagle. Murphy just got up from a nap. https://i.imgur.com/PBhK47Ol.jpg

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Murphy got dropped off early this morning to my mom's house. Murphy is doing much better and seemed her ole self this morning. She was very happy to see my mom. I think Murphy likes my mom better than Donna and I. I was a little worried about my mom watching her as my mom has been in discomfort with her back but mom was adamant that she wanted to watch Murf. My mom lets Murphy sleep in her bed along with my mom's beagle. Lilly Padd the beagle is a big beagle. She is 39 pounds! She is a sweetheart but is 12 years old and starting to have issues with her back hips. Mom said if she can pick up a 39 pound beagle with her back problems that she will have no trouble picking up a 17 pound Jack Russell. I am not sure what time I will be able to leave work today. I was hoping to get out of here by 1pm and be on the road by 1:30 or so but I will have to see how the day goes. I am a little concerned with this storm coming from the Gulf. Our motorhome is 13 feet tall and 37 feet long and it is not fun driving in gusty winds. I plan on driving to Tifton, GA tonight and then leaving early tomorrow morning to head to Sevierville. Hopefully I can outrun the storm as is crosses into Georgia tomorrow morning. Donna was playing pharmacist last night getting all of Murf's meds and things together for her stay with mom. https://i.imgur.com/64cUU88l.jpg

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Murphy Pooped!!! We got home from work and Murphy took a big one. So far, she seems her old self. I think I am going to leave Murphy with my mom on this trip. Murphy loves her grandma and my mom always spoils Murphy. As much as I feel bad about leaving her, it will make the trip much easier for us and if Murphy does get sick, mom can take her to the vet if needed. Now that the Murphy saga is over, it looks like I will now be trying to outrun a tropical storm while traveling through Georgia. Somehow I will make it to Sevierville!

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

I went home at lunch and tried to get Murphy to do her business but no luck. I walked her down the street and back and still no luck. She was happy to see me and enjoyed her walk. My mom has offered to watch her while we are gone. Murphy loves my mom and I know mom will take good care of her. I just hate to burden my mom with Murphy. My mom fell about a year ago and cracked a couple of vertebrae in her back. She is in a lot of discomfort some days. Murphy usually just sleeps all day but she can also be a handful. She is, after all, a Jack Russell and they have minds of their own. I will make a decision tomorrow morning on what to do about Murphy. I just want her to feel better. She is old and I know her days are numbered but most days she acts like she is 2 years ago. I guess as we get older the bad days start catching up to the good days.

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Murphy kept us up all night last night. She was panting and barking. She kept wanting to go outside but all she did was pee. She has been eating well but hasn't had a BM in over 24 hours. She finally settled down around 2:30am and we get up at 5am so I am really dragging this morning. She seemed to feel OK this morning but she still wouldn't do her business. I am super busy today at work and I don't have time to take her to the vet. I sure hope she does her business when we get home tonight. I can't take her on this trip like this and I don't want to leave her with my mom in this condition. Between my work and Murphy it's been very trying to make this trip. Hopefully she will be better this afternoon. Burch

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

She is eating good now and drinking water. I'm glad to hear she is eating now. Just wish we could take the pain away. Our Jack Russel Murphy has had stomach problems for several days but she is better. Her stool was still soft yesterday but at least it was solid. She has been a picky eater. She will about take your hand off for a treat but hasn't been wanting to eat her food. I have been fooling her the last few days. I take some of her dry food and put it in a small bowl and then add a little water. She thinks it's something different and she eats it. I hope everyone made it to Sevierville. Hopefully someone will check in soon from Riverside. We still plan on leaving after work on Friday and being at Riverside on Saturday afternoon. At lease we will make it to the tail end of the event and get to meet some people. Burch

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Good morning FOOFs Richard, I hope you have a safe trip today to Sevierville. I learned last Friday that I might not be able to leave early on the 18th to head north. I had planned to leave around lunch time to drive to Tifton, Ga for the night. I might have to work much later into the day than I'd like. I am showing it's about a 4 1/2 hour drive (without traffic) but going through Tampa around 5pm is painful. The traffic is really bad on I75 until you get 10+ miles north of Tampa. Good Lord willing and the creak don't rise, we will be leaving on Friday afternoon. I plan on getting up early Saturday and heading the rest of the way to Riverside. I am debating on whether to drive through Atlanta or go around. It's been 10 years since I drove to Atlanta and I went around last time. I thought the traffic was just as bad going around. We will probably be hitting downtown Atlanta around 9:30-10AM on Saturday so hopefully the traffic won't be as bad. Looking forward to seeing many of you on Saturday. Burch

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Dan I was so hoping Pickles would be better by now. I hate seeing any of my dogs in pain. I just wish I could take the pain for them. Hopefully she we get better soon. Murphy got me up last night again. We had only been in bed about 30 minutes and I had just dozed off. She started her "chirping" and then started to bark and was clawing at the bed. I got up and took her out and her BM was basically liquid. She came back inside and went to bed and started snoring. She made a mess yesterday in the dog room during the day when we were at work. She never messes in the house but something has her bowels messed up. This happened to her a few weeks ago and after a day or two she was back to normal. I guess that happens when you get old. She is still doing good for being 16 years old. I plan on changing the oil in the motorhome this weekend and then taking it to the gas station to top her off with fuel. I am thinking about bringing some fishing gear as both places we are staying are on a river. I need to find out about getting a out of state fishing license for Tennessee and NC. If it costs to much I'll just leave the fishing poles at home. I hope everyone has a great day and my thoughts are with Pickles. Burch

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Yesterday I read an article about a Beagle that someone skinned alive and dropped it off at a park. The Tennessee Sheriff's is offering a reward for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible. The dog was carried to a vet where it was put down. Anyone that could do such a thing is a very sick person. I read about this the other day. How in the world could a person get enjoyment out of doing something like that? I grew up with Beagles and it made me sick reading that article. My uncle gave me a beagle when I was 5 years old and she was my best friend. A day after my 17th birthday, she passed from thyroid cancer. I remember I had a chemistry test that morning and I was sobbing and couldn't go to school. My dad was a school teacher and he said I could stay home that day. I usually had to be really sick, almost on deaths door, before my dad would let me stay home on a school day but he understood as he loved the dog too. I hope Pickles is doing better today. My neighbor who spends his summers in Franklin, NC has a Schnauzer named Lucy. She is a sweetheart and we have dog sat for her several times. She got sick last week and wouldn't eat or do her business. They took her to the local vet and he said her white blood cells were down. They took her to Greenville, SC on Thursday to have a bunch of tests done. She really didn't improve much until Monday. They were able to feed her by hand a little and she finally did her business. They got the results of the tests back from Greenville last night and it does not appear to be cancer but like an auto-immune issue. They might have to put her on a few weeks of steroids. We will be visiting them once we leave Sevierville and head to Whittier, NC. Where they live in Franklin is only about a 20 minute drive from the park we are staying.

RE: Deceptive traffic citations

You and others on this thread must never have visited the north Florida towns of Waldo and Lawtey. Oh yes, I remember driving through Waldo while going to school in Gainesville back in the 90's. Many of my friends got multiple tickets driving through that town. I used to visit my cousin in Jacksonville while going to school at UF and had to drive through Waldo.

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

So sorry to hear about pickles and that you won't be able to make it to Sevieville. After all these years I am finally able to make one of the gatherings and it looks like most people won't be able to make it. Unless God decides to call me home, I will be there! Donna and I are having very stressful times at work right now and we both need a vacation in a bad way. I told her last night that I might not leave the campground as I am just looking for peace and quiet and no technology! We both work in information technology. When we leave Sevierville, we are heading to Whittier,NC which is near Cherokee. When I spoke to the person who took the reservation, he apologized and said there was no cell service in the park. I told him if that was the case, I might never leave! It will be nice to stay somewhere that work can't find me. I can't tell you how many times we have had to go back to the RV or the hotel room because work called us and I needed to get online to fix something. Burch

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

I hope Pickles gets better soon. I hate it when one of my dogs are in pain. You can't explain to them what is happening. We took a short one day shake down trip in the motorhome yesterday. We spent last night at LazyDays resort in Tampa. I watched the Gator vs Auburn game outside as the weather was nice. We went to the Hard Rock casino and had a nice dinner. Donna had over $100 in comp dollars so we ate a the Rez which is a nice restaurant at the hotel. Donna wouldn't let me setup the Furbo camera when we left. She was afraid I would get stressed if I heard Murphy barking on the camera. We took the dogs on a long walk and fed them before we left the motorhome. When we got back, they were quiet and sleeping. Hopefully Murphy didn't bark when we were gone. I usually leave on the radio when we leave but I left the TV on this time. I am saddened that the number of people is getting lower for the Sevierville trip. I have never been to one of these trips and I was really looking forward to meeting everyone. I hope that everyone else that had planned to go can still make the trip. Burch

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

My friends dad passed away last night. Its been a really bad day for me today as he was like a father to me. He and his family are wonderful people and they are family to me. My heart breaks though because, unless something happened recently, he was not saved and I ache for his soul. I was up most of the night last night grieving and am really tired right now. I am so looking forward to Sevierville and am getting excited about seeing some people already making their way to Tennessee. I just wish I could get there sooner but I am hoping that most are still there on Saturday and Sunday. I won't get there until mid afternoon on Saturday the 19th. Burch
