RE: Breaks Interstate Park

Never been to Breaks but have stayed in a few other Va State parks and they were nice. But they are on the high side for state parks. We paid $48 a nite for W&E at Claytor Lake while in Tennessee at Natchez Trace SP it was $45 a nite for full hook ups and we had a lake view.

RE: Price of camping

Don't stay at those high priced places. Stay at state and federal parks. If you're 62 or older get the Senior Pass which gives you half off all federal campgrounds. The most we ever pay in a federal campground is $19 a night with water and electric. One campground in Arkansas is $7.50 a nite for W&E.Prices vary in state parks too but we'd pay anywhere from$18 to $48 a nite with W&E and in Tennessee we paid $45 for FHU right on the lake and that's not with any discount.

RE: Has anyone camped at Willowtree RV Resort in SC?

I think a lot of us are getting tired of others wanting us to be their google. You can learn an awful lot by doing it yourself. Some people like to hear personal experience from people who have been there. I do both Google and ask questions on here. The more information one has the better.

RE: Has anyone camped at Willowtree RV Resort in SC?

We stayed there a few years ago. We had one of their sites with individual hot tubs. Very nice. They have gambling cruises out of North Myrtle beach if that interests you. The next year we tried to get one of those hot tub sites but they were all booked. So we stayed at Huntington Beach State Park. They have some FHU and the rest are W&E. Short walk to the beach. Nice nature programs. Next door is the former residence of the Huntingtons. You can tour that. Just right up the road is Murrels Inlet for some good food and drinks. Huntington Beach is much cheaper than Willow Tree.

RE: Pilot credit card needed ?

If you have a diesel tow vehicle or motorhome, there is an app called Mudflap that can get you up to 30 cents off a gallon. There are videos on Youtube showing how this works. Last time I tried using my Good Sam card at Flying J for diesel it didn't work.

RE: Roadtrip by car vs RV, a couple of thoughts...

You can get significant savings on campgrounds if you have the Federal Senior Pass if you're 62 or older. We stayed in your hometown of Payson at Houston Mesa Campground for $12 a night with the pass. We also stayed at Canyon Point,a Forest Service campground on 260 for $19 a night with electric. We usually go to Texas from Pa every year and one Federal Campground in Arkansas is only $7.50 a night with water and electric. Then we stay at Canyon Lake which is north of San Antonio for $19 a night with water and electric and we are lakeside. Like you we do most of our own cooking. For the trip,my wife makes meals you can freeze and then thaw out in the microwave. She makes pot pie, shepards pie,ham and string beans, lasgna and other things like that. Hotels, especialyy good ones are expensive. And like you said, eating out has gone up alot in the past year.So we spend more on fuel, but save on food and overnight stays. We feel it is worth it to sleep in our own bed and use our own bathroom.

RE: FDR state park directions

Take the Dalton Bypass, far preferable to Chattanooga, then GA-53 between south Calhoun and Rome, then US-27 south. Mostly two-lane, roads are ok. What is the route number for the Dalton bypass?

FDR state park directions

My wife and I will be attending my Navy ships reunion in Columbus,Ga the end of September. We will be coming down I-81 then take I-75 towards Chattanooga. Having driven around Atlanta a few times,I want to stay far away.So I was looking at taking Georgia 27 which would take us to the park. Have any of you taken this way towing a trailer? How is the road?

RE: San Antonio

Canyon Lake. $19 a night for water and electric with the Federal Senior pass. Otherwise $38. Some sites are right on the water. Others in the shade. Very nice COE Park.

RE: Campground close to Atlanta

High Falls State Park Riverside campground has some very large sites. They all have water and electric plus showers and laundry. It is south of Atlanta not too far off I 75.

How to stay warm in cold weather.

We have often camped in cold weather including during snow storms. We have a 26ft TT with front bedroom, rear kitchen and walk through bath. The heater in the trailer works ok,but as soon as the blower stops, the temperature drops quickly. We bought one of those small cube heaters and place that on the floor in the bathroom aimed towards the living room. This way the trailer stays warm between the furnace running. The other thing we do,which can be done even if you don't have electric,is put a 1 gallon pot filled about 3/4 full on the stove top and turn it on high.Once it starts boiling, turn it back to simmer. By adding humidity,it quickly warms up the trailer. We have camped in temperatures as low as 17 below zero and these things work well.

RE: Yellowstone roads closed!

It gets tiring hearing all this **** about climate change causing these events. I guess nobody has studied history. Our climate has been changing since the earth was formed. We have had catastrophic weather events as long as the earth has been in existence. Even in the article they admit they cannot point to climate change being responsible for a single weather event. So why mention it at all?

RE: Cold in the bedroom.

If you can close the vents in the living room kitchen area, you can force more heat back to the bedroom.

RE: Not enough room

Like many already stated, when I am traveling into area's I am not familiar with I use Google Maps ahead of time to check things out... I usually have an idea of how far I will go and how far I can go before needing to fuel Looks like you have a diesel tow vvehicle. Finding places to fit is much less of an issue because you can use truck stops a diesel islands at convenience stores. Finding places to refill with gasoline is a much bigger issue vs. diesel You can't use the diesel pumps unless you have an auxilary tank. The high speed nozzles are bigger than the filler on your truck. I have a 40 gallon aux tank in the bed so I can use them.
