RE: PD 52 transfer switch hum normal?

I'll say it again they do hum. Now don't keep chasing you tail find a few other units while camping which have a transfer switch ask them if you can have a listen ,I bet you most or all will say please do.I had mine for 15 years and sold it that way. My new A class has a manual plug in and out no noise with that. Take a look at the Progressive Dynamics website and call up the PD52DCS. Their big push is that this one does NOT hum. And they told me that when I called. The new one should be here tomorrow. Installed May 7. Update then.

RE: PD 52 transfer switch hum normal?

4/17 second update. My pd52dcs transfer switch is noisy! They will send a new one. CW EMPLOYEE Thought it was my power source at home! Can that be true?

RE: PD 52 transfer switch hum normal?

3/19 update: my batteries failed to keep a full charge with the old transfer switch. Of the four lights on the panel it always dropped to three quickly then two and finally one light. NOW with the new transfer switch it’s not only quieter but the four status lights stay on—day after day! Not sure why. In both cases the mh was unused. Perhaps the old transfer switch drew power out of the batteries just sitting?

RE: Reflex Steering Stabilizers ok?

Any other ford f53 chassis owners have this stabilizer? Anyone with a motorhome similar to mine?

Reflex Steering Stabilizers ok?

I’m considering installing this product on my f53 ford chassis. I’m wondering how it works for you guys

RE: Has this happened to you?

Mine happened at a car wash. Guy saw larger chip in windshield said I should get it fixed soon as it will spread.. I had had it fixed before this. it's been 10 years later--chip hasn't spread--of course

RE: PD 52 transfer switch hum normal?

CW corrected the issue. A technician with 20 years experience fixed it. It does hum but tolerable—unlike the pd52. So we’ll see how it goes..... A constant low volume hum. We'll see how it goes over time

RE: Michelin 22.5 tires

I bought them thru Superior tire in Portland oregon through FMCA. NOT a good deal. Cheaper tires, but they charged $540 to install and balance! Discount tire would have been cheaper!!!!! The tires are great. Very quiet

RE: PD 52 transfer switch hum normal?

I understand they are. The DC conversion is all internal. You might want to go to their website and submit a question. I've had to clean relays about every 3 years on our last 2 RVs. After a while you get good at it. It's dusty here out West. Thanks Gary. I did call PD and he said the DCS will transfer over easily. Main difference is the size of the box. UPDATE: MH is sitting at camping world now getting the transfer switch installed. I'll let you know how it works:)

RE: PD 52 transfer switch hum normal?

UPDATE: Thank you for your responses. I bought and am having installed the new PD52DCS at camping world next week. Note: They had a sale on the unit, plus $25 off on President's day, plus $59 this month to install anything. Seemingly a good deal.

RE: PD 52 transfer switch hum normal?

They buzz when the relays get dirt inside and the two parts of the armature cannot "seal up" tight. Once you are home and have time, dismantle the relay and clean it out. If necessary, sand the mating surfaces against a sheet of fine sandpaper on a flat surface. With alternating current relays, if the two metal surfaces cannot solidly connect with each other in addition to buzzing it also can make the relay coil run hot and eventually fail. You can also buy new relays fairly inexpensively to replace it once you get it out and can identify it. eBay is your friend. If you buy a completely new transfer switch, get the PD52DCS model as they utilize internal rectifiers to furnish DC (direct current) to a DC coil relay that will not buzz when it gets dirt in it and will not burn out from not "sealing up" properly like is very necessary with an AC coil. A hazard of using AC coils in an RV that gets exposed to a lot of dirt and dust. Will this pd52dcs be a direct bolt on replacement for mine?

RE: PD 52 transfer switch hum normal?

Check for loose connections. Think about replacement as it will fail when you need it the most. I tightened connections. No change Is there a better model available?

RE: Any other gas stations giving rv's gas discounts like Pilot?

We use Kroeger too. Cheaper to begin with. Can use credit card with 3% off too. Heck at $3/gallon that’s 9 cents off! Beats flying j

RE: extended warranty "extended"?

yeah that was my thinking too. But actually saving it monthly is easier said than done. I wonder how many actually do that?

extended warranty "extended"?

My 7 year extended warranty just expired on my new motorhome bought February 2012. I'm curious how many of you are in or were in my position and what you did. The coach probably makes some difference. Mine is as noted in my profile, but it's a Ford v-10 chassis--just like most gassers. We don't use it alot, although it does have 45000 miles on it. I'm real fussy on maintenance and it's kept indoors when not in use. Should I renew it and for how long? I did explore the good sam policy. It was about 1700 a year with 500 deductible, and 900 a year with 1000 deductible. I don't want a bunch of salesmen talk. Just curious how many of you did or did not renew.
