RE: hauling trailer to Alaska

There is a lot of good advice already given. We did a 10 week trip last summer. Due to previous commitments, we couldn't leave until mid-July. We were concerned about the "rainy season" but it didn't happen last year. We spent 23 hours stopped on the Sterling Hwy by Cooper Landing at a road block because of wild fires ahead. It was nice having a generator then. Several people asked to plug in to charge their phones, etc. Wadcutter mentioned about seeing the mountain in Denali Park. We took the longest bus trip, and saw a lot of wild life, but not the mountain. We did see it several times from a pullout just east of Cantwell on the Denali Hwy. We stayed a number of nights at the campground in Cantwell as we had to have a new converter shipped up from the lower 48 when ours went bad. It's all part of the trip. I'm glad we went. Don't know if we'll get the chance again. One good thing about going later in the season, we were able to see the northern lights at Fairbanks 3 different nights. We had been told if we were in Fairbanks in Sept there is a good chance of seeing them. I came to the conclusion early on that you can't do it all in one trip, so focus on the things that mean the most to you.

RE: ongoing generator issue

I know you said the water heater is off, but I would check it again. It really sounds like too great of a load on the generator.

RE: Keystone denying claim (of course)

Have you tried Trailer Life's RV Resolutions? It may not help, but it doesn't cost anything to try. Following is a copy and paste from Need Help Resolving an RV Issue? RV Resolutions is Trailer Life’s forum for the settlement of conflicts between consumers and RV dealers and manufacturers, accessory suppliers and service providers. After exhausting all other resources without success, mail a typed letter to Trailer Life RV Resolutions, 2750 Park View Court, Suite 240, Oxnard, California 93036. Include copies of appropriate bills and correspondence along with a self-addressed, stamped envelope. Selected letters will be edited and published unless otherwise requested.

RE: Long distance travel during the virus pandemic

In some states, like Ohio, state parks are open for day use, but closed to overnight camping. It seems like a solution might be to travel at night, and sleep in a state park parking lot for the day.

RE: Lighting suggestions for rv building

I had a polebarn built to house the camper and a few farm implements-it is 40 wide by 64 long and 12' sidewalls. I wanted led lights, but most were too expensive for my taste. I ended up using 6 of this light from Home Depot: led light My trusses are on 4' centers and I wanted a light to fit between the trusses so they wouldn't hang down below and lessen the headroom. I just ran a 2x4 across the tops of the trusses and attached the light to the bottom of that 2x4. I ran 14 gauge wire to receptacles at each light (15A breaker) and plug the light into the receptacles. I ran 2 rows of 3 lights. It makes enough light to see even to work by if the work isn't too detailed.

RE: The perfect RV campground

One of our favorite places is River Ridge Resort in Stanwood, MI. Its main section consists of more closely packed sites which are paved and many have patio type areas for those who prefer that. We like the outlying loop with gravel sites and large grassy areas the kids can play in. One campground provides both. It has a nice pool, and a marina with rental pontoon boats as it is located on a river.

RE: Odd thing happening.

If I remember correctly, those "motion" detectors sense a change in temperature. Could the microwave be venting some heat into that cabinet?

RE: Tow Vehicle rating and comfort

I had a 2013 F150 with Eco pulling a 6800 pound trailer for several years. Power will not be an issue for you. I weighed my combo set up for camping, and found I was 500 pounds over rear axle weight. You shouldn't have that issue as your trailer weight is less, unless you really load up the truck bed. The 2 issues I did have were the unsettled feeling when a big truck went by (you can overcome that if you anticipate the truck coming), and during my semi-annual crawl under the truck to inspect the hitch, I found the receiver was splitting out- it was already about half way back. I got it welded and reinforced, but as I was ready to get another truck (for other reasons), I went with an F250 this time.

RE: Heated Mattress Pad

Considering adding a heated mattress pad to our IdealRest air bed in our Itasca Suncruiser. is anyone using one? any problems? can't imagine there would be any adverse issues using a heated mattress pad on an air mattress but thought i'd ask before pulling the trigger. any recommendations? looking at a dual-control model. We don't use it on an air mattress, but we do use the heated pad you reference, and have been happy with it.

RE: Good thing Ford TC haulers don’t use the tailgates ...

Some models have an inside the truck button to release the tailgate (like a trunk release button). If I understand correctly, that is the issue they are having. I heard about such switch possible only on dump truck. What would be purpose of it on regural bed? Anyway, I check my VIN for recalls - they aren't any at this time. I've seen whistle-blowing reporters making articles about subjects they don't understand more than once. I think this is one of them. Not sure of the purpose. Here is a thread on a Ford truck forum about the issue: Clicky

RE: Good thing Ford TC haulers don’t use the tailgates ...

The link doesn't open for me. I did not use my tailgate much on my 2017 model, but from what I remember it has mechanical latches that hold the tailgate up and electrical latch lock for security. Meaning even electrical malfunction will release the lock, the latches will still hold the tailgate up. The lock assemble has whole harness going to it, what operates camera and light as well. I’m not familiar with the design. If you pull the handle when it’s locked, does it release the latches so that when you do (or it does) eventually unlock it, it falls? Maybe that’s the concern. If not then nothing to worry about. Some models have an inside the truck button to release the tailgate (like a trunk release button). If I understand correctly, that is the issue they are having.

RE: Medical Follies

It's all BEHIND them now! Yes, thankfully, the results were good, she doesn't have to go back for 10 years, so I guess you could call that behind. ;)

RE: Medical Follies

Wait till they send you a bill stating your account is in arrears. That's OK- it will all work out in the end. No ifs, ands, or butts about it. Well, I think it's a stinking situation that should be wiped out.
