RE: Heading to Florida

You should not have a problem is you are heading down next week and plan to stay for a month.. I guess that means the month of November. The snowbirds won't be here in force that early in the season.

RE: Acadia NP - rv length

We've been going up there every summer for the last 10 yrs. We stay at Narrows Too. I had looked at Bar Harbor CG, but the lack of reservations was a deal breaker. I don't want to drive 1700 miles and find I don't have a place to stay. People say that isn't a problem as there are always open spots, but I didn't want to chance it. I stopped at Bass harbor CG, which is on Mt Desert Island and they have a half dozen or so sites that will accomodate a big rig... but, they are under pine trees and I didn't want the sap on my roof.

RE: Sewage Follies

I have read that buses typically pull over a grate and let it rip. Seems like that dump station may be to accommodate Greyhounds and charter buses. That's how it was at the bus station in my home town... bus pulled in to it's parking space and dumped while loading/unloading passengers.

RE: Wax on my Motorhome fiberglass roof

I wax my fiberglass roof with a spray wax ( Optimum) - It has UV protectants that supposedly last 5 months.... I probably wash/wax the roof every 3-4 months, so I'm good. My roof has non-skid areas on each side for the length of the coach. Using regular wax on those embossed areas is a pain. The spray wax does a good job on both the non-skid and the smooth areas.

RE: MH accident in gas station!

About 10 yrs ago, I watched a guy rip into all the bay doors on the drivers side as he tried to pull out and hit one of those huge concrete barriers meant to protect the pumps. He kept going till it was wedged up so tight the MH couldn't move anymore. I'm sure it ruined his day.

RE: Bluewater Key RV questions

When we were there the canal was very hard to access. The tree knees were hard to get around. The gulf side was much easier! We've always had sites with a dock and we just slide off the dock into the water. No issues.

RE: Bluewater Key RV questions

The canal side, No. Gulf side yes!\ Not true-- we go there several times a year and have stayed and snorkeled on both the bayside and canal side. We actually prefer the canal side sites as they are less windy. Kayaking is great in the area. We do launch right off the dock. There is also a boat ramp in the park. If you go down the canal side and turn right, you'll be in a huge area of mangroves and channels that is very well protected. You'll see plenty of fish. You can also paddle under US 1 and get to many interesting areas. For food, we like Square Grouper. It does get crowded and they don't take reservations, but worth the wait. Mangrove Mama's is a nice laid back place just up the road. Not far from Blue Water ( 5 miles, we ride there on our bikes) is Geiger Key Marina. Good food and drinks in a waterfront setting. Also there is Bobalu's Cafe, also about 5 miles from Blue Water. I think it's on Thursday that they have home made turkey pot pie. One is enough to feed two people. They do sell out, so get there early if you want one. In Key West, you'll find all kinds of places.... for happy hours, try the boat house. Drinks are reasonable and the small plate appetizers are 1/2 price . Old Town Mexican Restaurant on Duval is also another good and reasonably priced place. Any other questions ? Ask, I'll try to help.

RE: To Buy or build

Another consideration in doing a conversion yourself is some parks will not allow home built units... only RVIA certified units. One place we frequent has that rule/restriction and unfortunately has had to turn away people that showed up and had not read the rules.

RE: Grand Canyon 2020

We've been to the south rim several times. Stayed in Trailer Village, down in Williams and took the train up, even stayed at El Tovar. We've hiked the trails down and up , but one of the most fun trips was taking the mule ride down to Phantom Ranch and staying there overnight. If you have the time and are able to get reservations, I highly suggest giving it a shot. The day we went, it was cold and humid at the top... by the time we got to the ranch, it was 90+ and time for a cold beer and a dip in the creek !

RE: 3d printed box for Amdro Liquid Ant bait - prevent spills

Very cool, we had one spill not to long ago ... now I have a question. I do not have a 3d printer and see many for sale on craigslist for pretty reasonable prices.... anything I should look out for, either positive of negative ?

RE: Sticker Shock for general service

As other's said, you are way behind the scheduled maintenance-- the first one being 6 months after chassis build Take a look here for the services that should be done at the various intervals.

RE: RV toilet with a self contained holding tank

Sounds like what I've seen on boats... manual pump , check a marine supply house.

RE: Campground in Wilmington NC

KOA seems to be about the only one near town and is pretty nice. You an go out to Wrightsville Beach and there are some, but they really pack you in. We've opted for the KOA the few times we've been in the area.

RE: Air Fryer Polenta Fries

Actually the consistency is just like a regular french fry .. but no grease and yes, sorta like corn fries.. aka grit fries !

RE: Tecma Toilet impeller issue ?

The LED is green.... I can hear the motor run when I push the button, but the water stays in the bowl. I'll look at taking it apart in a few days , just don't know if there are parts available as the manual I've seen just have the motor assembly, not the individual parts like impeller and seals.

Air Fryer Polenta Fries

Instead of regular french fries, I tried using polenta to make fries and the result was very good. I bought a tube of pre-cooked polenta, and cut it up into french fry size pieces. I coated each piece with a bit of olive oil then dredged them in Italian bread crumbs with a few extra spices. Into the air fryer at 370 for about 20 minutes, then cranked it up to 400 for 5 minutes. Out came golden brown polenta fries.... very tasty

Tecma Toilet impeller issue ?

My rear bath toilet is not flushing. I am thinking the impeller is toast as I hear the motor spinning, but no flushing occurs. Just wondering if anyone has taken theirs apart and if there are any precautions . Good thing is there is nothing but water in the toilet so I don't have to worry about that aspect, other than sponging out the water before removing it.

They're back ! --- Love Bugs

Came down I-75 from central Georgia to Tampa on Saturday and in southern GA ( fromm around Cordelle) to about Gainesville, we hit love bugs--- what a mess. It's just the beginning, more to come !
