RE: Towing or packing a Smart Car on the back of a Class A

It's air suspension and the tag is adjustable. Possibly with the tag set to 10,000 lbs it could make up the difference of the steel structure and car weight located about 13' behind the tag. Right now I can't quickly get my head around the lever arm math. Even though the suspension can be raised 6" with modification that would be an very poor choice for traveling but works well for air leveling. I suspect that the stability and safety of a RV is compromised with a car on the back. Probably is fine for normal traffic. That’s 1800 lbs off the rear, on 3 DPs over 120+K miles. Takes 700 lbs off the front axle https://i.imgur.com/bdN0N07l.jpgwidth=700

RE: Length of time diesel fuel stays good in tank

At 10 years I’d start to worry.

RE: Towing or packing a Smart Car on the back of a Class A

OP, if you still have the Bounder in your signature... NO WAY can you put 1800 lbs on a rack on the back. Like Mike said above that’s going to put 3000+ lbs on your rear axle. Get a trailer or a dolly.

RE: fluxuating oil pressure gage

I would look into a Silverleaf monitor... probably less than taking it in. Silverleaf

RE: Water in fuel light came on then off

The sensor is fairly sensitive to water (go figure) so when the area around it gets wet it can give you a false positive ... fairly normal.

RE: What $125,000 gets you in Germany

I’ve gotten out of many a car and MH when my head scrapes the ceiling. Throw in small tanks and limited storage, I’ll keep my fuel guzzling DP with 7’ ceilings. Now I might be tempted with this German made one with the Smart Car in the back. https://i.imgur.com/BAFoUJbl.jpg

RE: Salvage title???? update with pics

In many states you cannot get a tag with a salvage title... it has to be inspected $$ and a rebuilt title is then issued. Some insurance companies will not let you cover comb and collision with a rebuilt title. Need to make some calls for your state.

RE: Storing Diesel long term during COVID

Keep the tank full and don’t worry about diesel going bad, even biodiesel for that length of time. I plan on winterizing my DP next winter by going to Florida as usual. Could go now from one red state to another but summer is not my favorite time there. After the election you will miraculously be able to travel so “don’t worry” about going south or your diesel going bad. PS: Hong Kong which is very similar size to NYC, had 1000 cases of C19 and 4 deaths. They quarantine for 3 months an infected person... did not put back into a nursing home.:S

RE: Cody, WY to Yellowstone (East Entrance)

The other entrances should be open fairly soon so doubt you will have to use just the south or East. Non of them are difficult... OK, getting to the NE/Lamar entrance could be fun.

RE: Starting a Full-time adventure and need guidance

Since you are already a Fla resident (one of the 3 best states for FT) use your current address if possible or set up a mail forwarding service. Several in Greencove Springs, FL.

RE: Fleetwood Freedom Bridge Chassis

Looks like a takeoff of the 20+ year old Winnebago Ultimate Freedom chassis... new and improved after Winnebago’s patent expired. https://i.imgur.com/pLuys9Dl.jpg Fleetwood’s copy: https://i.imgur.com/0idqk1El.jpg

RE: How do I reach these clearance lights?

A long enough ladder will rest against the roof above the windshield without hitting it, BUT you need to fasten the base of the ladder so it doesn’t kick out... a rope to the front axle or bumper.

RE: New Class A - Water Entry

You would know if it was grey water...smells plus the vents are on the roof. You are about to find out how good your dealer is.

RE: Size ristrictions at state/federal parks

As half timers in a 42’ for 14 years and now another 2 in a 45’... 40’ is NOT too big in retirement. Over those 16 years we have gone West 8 summers for several months staying mainly in public CGs without reservations. I would not have gone from 42’ to 45’ if finding sites big enough was a major problem... it’s gotten easier as more information is on the internet today than 16 years ago. In those 8 summers I cannot remember not getting into my first or 2nd choice until this past summer in Moab. Could have dispersed camped running the generator 24/7 (95 degrees in later Sept) so headed to 10,000’ in CO 4 hours away. Had frost the next morning. The advantage of a big rig is how well you can dry camp for 7 days and 10+ if you conserve water. We put more miles on the car than the MH as it becomes the base camp and the car gets us to places the MH could not. You do not go into a CG hoping to find a site big enough on Friday, but on Sunday or Monday it’s not a problem. One of our favorite USFS CG in the Tetons has 30’ max. Not sure who comes up with the lengths... OH, they are government employees. Buy more MH than you think you need... One Time because I started with a 36’ because of comments like some of the above that have never done it in a big MH.

RE: trading up to a DP, wondering about fuel program

I have not gotten it for two main reasons... I can find (with the help of GassBuddy) equal or better savings (over the last 10 years) and I would have to open a separate checking account (to limit my $$ exposure). In the N Houston example ^^^^ $1.40 (not sure if that’s after the 5% TSD charges) as I found $1.49 - .07 (cash back) = $1.42 using a Sam’s credit card.

As flimsy as the frames are it wouldn’t take much to put it back stronger.

RE: Lighting suggestions for rv building

I replaced my MH bay fluorescent shop lights with these 4' LED for less than $7 each. Has series connections so you can do a string of several on one power feed. RE: Taking RV to FLA (west cost) to pick up mother in law

I'm a NYer, and have been self quarantining in NY for about 3 weeks now. I'm chomping at the bit to get down there, and have cancelled 2 reservations so far to autotrain it down. Long story short, Im eventually gonna get down there and get my RV. and when I do, governor DeSantis will be very happy that me, and my money, will be out of his state. There are other states in the southeast that have very similar, or are trying to, implement tax advantages to retiring there... Unfortunately you are probably the exception... not like a NYCityit in our park that flew down this past Friday (NY quarantine in place does not apply to him). Is out and about ( Florida’s 14 day in place doesn’t apply to him), even going into the office (sign on door “If you are recently from NY, call DO NOT COME IN!). Even went swimming with a similar sign that the pool was closed if you had recently come from NY. Why does SE Florida have more cases than the rest of Fla? Could it be all the people from NY that can’t read and are hard of hearing?

RE: Taking RV to FLA (west cost) to pick up mother in law

Friday I went from SE Fla to N GA... 700 miles using I-95, Turnpike, I-75. Moderate traffic, few LEO, and only 1 idiot driver in Atlanta. Set the cruise on 68 and rarely had to slow down and bought diesel N of Atlanta for $2./gallon. If there is a non stop flight, I would probably have her take it. Extensive hand washing and NEVER touching your face is all I would have her do while traveling with her own food.
