RE: Glacier National Park Info

We went with a 26' TT. Made reservations at a USFS campground on Hungry Horse, but only stayed there one night as I was able to get up early and go to APGAR and get a site (first come first serve) as people were checking out. You have to get there early, like 6 am, as there will be a number of people who will be doing the same thing. There seems to be quite a bit of turnover of campsites everyday, so if you're willing to go early then you can usually get a spot I think.

RE: Water hook up

I use a 90 degree fitting with the plastic additional grip feature.

RE: Weight Distribution Hitch Concerns?

Unless improperly adjusted, no, I don’t believe using a WDH on a vehicle capable of handling the trailer without one would pose any type of risk. My 2500 can fully handle my current trailer without the WDH. However, the hitch has integrated sway control (4-pt) and when the trailer is fully loaded I think when we hit bumps or dips the WDH helps take up some of the momentary abuse when bouncing. JM2C.

RE: When do you throw in the towel?

I took care of my 2003 Silverado 1/2 ton, but at 185K and never having done much more than change the oil and a few regular maintenance things we decided that it might become a time bomb. The steering box was starting to leak, so decided we needed to replace instead of repair. It could have gone another 100k without any major issues or it might have failed the next week. Hard to say. However, we were in need of an upgrade to a larger vehicle, so it all worked out. Eventually all vehicles need some major repair or tuneups eventually. That's the price of vehicle ownership. Good luck with your decision. Either way it'll cost $, but as long as you're happy with it, that's the right one.

RE: Generator keeps shutting off

Check the oil level. Might have a low oil shut off.

RE: Glacier National Park

We went two years ago. We did make a reservation at a NF campground on Hungry Horse reservoir as we were arriving too late in the day to try for Apgar, but early the next morning I got up and drove to Apgar without the TT. Arrived before 6:30 and there were already a couple sites open with more people leaving. Other people looking for sites started showing up right after I did, so it is an early bird game, but doable!

RE: About to buy a TT, so confused, could use some help.

You COULD do it, but agree with the previous posts. Not a great idea. I advise upgrading your tow vehicle or downsizing your TT. Sorry

RE: Towing speed

I like to tow at 65 with my current Durmax setup. Have pulled at 70, but think fuel milage suffers. With my old half ton, I usually tried to maintain 60-65, but hills and headwind tended to control my speed for me.

RE: RV Ovens

You need something to help hold the heat and distribute it evenly. Place a cast Iron griddle, a baking stone, or something similar on the rack or on the shelf above the burner to help keep from scorching the food on the bottom and maintaining and even heat distribution. I've had success in a pinch by placing a 10' cast iron skillet on the shelf above the burner and then using a thicker cookie sheet to bake on. It is a challenge though.
