RE: Winnebago Electric Motorhome on a F-53 chassis

Just think with a diesel generator you could stop and charge every 125 miles LOL.

RE: RV to power home temp

I was hoping to back feed my house thru the shore power cord by killing the main power flip a switch in the motor home (separate transfer switch) and run a few items till power is restored. Maybe ad a twist lock at two points within the transfer switch, one at incoming power and other main gen power connecting to the cord depending which mode I'll be in. Please don't. Use a transfer switch designed for this application do not trust your main breaker as a disconnect to the utility. I am a retired journeyman lineman and this can kill utility workers. I can't tell you how many failed main breakers I have seen. If you back feed into the utility the 120/240 volt service feeding your house comes from a transformer that converts primary high voltage at the transformer to the 120/240 volts for your house. If you back feed into the transformer you create primary high voltage through the transformer. The transformer is a simple device feed high voltage in the top it makes secondary voltage out the bottom feeding your house feed secondary voltage into the transformer and it makes high primary voltage out. Not just utility workers are at risk lets say you have a wire down on your street or 2 streets over and you back feed through your service and the neighbor kid moves the wire so he can play and dies or is maimed guess who is at fault or maybe the downed line starts a house fire etc. I know of one lineman personally that got killed by an illegal hooked up generator in Mariposa, CA and their have been more many more. It doe not matter if your home is fed underground or overhead the threat is the same. Best case scenario is the utility worker grounds the primary line and smokes your generator. Do NOT TRUST YOUR MAIN BREAKER TO BE A DISCONNECT TO THE UTILITY. A proper transfer switch is a break before make device that gives a physical separation to the utility service.

RE: water pump replacement

Besides the obvious problem with the leak, your pump might be noisy because of the way it is mounted. In my coach the pump was mounted directly to the side wall in the basement. When I replaced it I got two braided plastic hose extensions at Home Depot and relocated the pump to a rubber mount on the bottom of the basement compartment. This not only made the pump much easier to service but it also made it so that I could hardly hear it when it was running.I installed the pump today and it will not shut off. I ran it for a while to purge all air out of the system. No leaks as far as I can tell. I guess I will have to play with the bypass switch adjustment tomorrow to see if I can get it to shut off. Try running it on city water and open all the valves one at a time to bleed all the air out of the lines then try the pump again to see if it will shut off after it builds pressure.

RE: Long Driving Days: Class A vs. Trailer

My MH is more comfortable to sit in than my pickup. My Dodge is a 1 ton and rides rough and the seat is awful. The MH has a really comfy seat with nice arm rests. I still like to limit my traveling to 2 or 3 hours between rests. Handling wise my truck pulling my 5th wheel handles better that my MH. My current MH is better than one I owned years ago that one was a 30' gasser on a workhorse chassis it was light with a lot of overhang past the rear axle man that thing blew all over the road in any wind.

I am thinking of trying this one. Ebay shade

Add on sun visor.

Do any of you have a good add on visor for the driver side window? I can pull the curtain closed up to my mirror, but it seems like a lot of time the sun is coming in at an angle just above the sight line of the mirror. I don't like blocking that much window with the curtain. It would be nice to have something on that side I could pull down to block a portion of the window from the top. I am thinking maybe something that suction cup mounts to the side window???

RE: Leveling question.

What I found with mine is if the front starts out higher than the back when the back jacks come down and level side to side and raise the rear the front jacks may not be touching the ground at all. I re calibrated it about 5 times and called Power Gear tech support the guy told me that was normal for my leveling system and if I wanted the front down to run them manually. Now if the front is low it will have all 4 jacks down after leveling. It is no big deal now that I understand how it works but when I first got the coach and leveled it at the house it did what I explained above and I thought something was broken. The tech told me the newer models test each jack after the leveling procedure to make sure they are all in contact with the ground but not the older ones.

RE: Kitchen faucet MH not working.

Hi. BK here. Mine didn’t come with a sprayer so it’s probably been replaced. The OEM faucet is/was terrible. I still have mine but it has always leaked when on. You can inspect the flex hoses by taking the panel to the right of the fridge off. I must have a different floor plan because my frig is on the other side of the MH. I suspected they had changed out the faucet the one they installed seems to be low quality. I think I will replace it with a better brand. Did yours come with a soap dispenser? I found one in the fold out drawer in front of the sink the type that mounts in the sink where they put the sprayer.

RE: Kitchen faucet MH not working.

My faucet was so hard to remove I didn't even consider repairing it . If you want to have a soap dispenser in the 3rd hole just buy a faucet that the sprayer pulls own from the spout , that should work ok . Luckily mine is easy to get out and it can all be done by hand no tools.

RE: Kitchen faucet MH not working.

Yes the kitchen is in one of the slides I will have to check for a kink but I can see the antifreeze in the lines up to the faucet (it has been winterized). I have removed the faucet from the MH took it apart and blew it out with compressed air disassembled it blew all the parts out with air nothing changed when I re-assembled it. I can't blow air through it when it is assembled but I can blow air through each part when it is not assembled. There is a little plunger valve for the sprayer I took it out also and blew it out. It just doesn't make sense to me. I plan to replace it with another faucet I think the problem is in the valve that allows the sprayer to work and yes it is separate and not one that pulls out from the end of the spout. I have not tried it on city water because I winterized it already I removed the faucet thinking I could just clear a clog.

Kitchen faucet MH not working.

Our new to us MH kitchen faucet works part of the time but doesn't much of the time. I removed the faucet it is a single handle with a sprayer. When I say it doesn't work I mean nothing comes out of it no matter the position of the handle. I tried blowing air through it and sure enough no matter the position of the handle nothing comes out the spout. I took it apart thinking something has it plugged but I found nothing. I can blow air through each of the individual parts but when it is re-assembled nothing gets through. It is clean inside and I have taken apart the cartridge nothing is in it. It doesn't leak it just doesn't work. I have got it to work a few times on the 3 trips we have taken. I have a theory and I think it has something to do with the sprayer that I doubt is factory in fact I don't think this faucet is the original faucet and I believe it is a cheap Glacier Bay sold at HD. The reason I don't think it is factory is there is a soap dispenser in one of the drawers that I believe was once in the hole the sprayer now occupies. I think that when there is air in the lines the 12 volt pump doesn't have enough pressure to unseat the sprayer plunger or something along those lines. My wife likes the sprayer hose so I need to get something to replace this that works and has a sprayer.

RE: Aiiison 300MH trany service

My trash collector recycle people will take motor oil it has to be in a clear container with screw on lid marked motor oil they will take 2 gallons at a time. The other day I left 2 gallons marked trans oil and they did not take it so I left it there (end of driveway) next week they took it. So now I am not sure if they take trans oil or not????

RE: Aiiison 300MH trany service

This is the oil pan I bought for doing my oil changes. A standard oil drain pan won't hold 19 quarts. They make this same one with a pump to pump out the waist oil but I have a forklift so for me I just lift the pan higher than the container I am draining it into and open the valve. Oil drain pan I just use the same old Rubbermade bucket I use for oil changes. Line with black HD trash bags for easy clean up. Use an old coffee can and funnel to transfer oil fluid to pail when finished. With a pail you have one quart left over-- I usually just ask the service department at the Allison dealer for an empty Transynd gallon jug and pour off the quart before I put the new fluid in the transmission. All the mechanic work I have done over the years I wish I had bought this pan years ago. I like the expanded metal grate it has makes it easy to drain oil filters and I can't drop the oil plug in the bottom of the pan. The wheels keep me from sloshing the oil out when getting the pan out from under the vehicle. Now I just have to remember not to run over it.

RE: Aiiison 300MH trany service

What fluid is in the transmission from the factory? Mine had a sticker that said Transynd you need to know because when you drain it you don't get it all out and you are not supposed to mix fluid types. Look around your engine bay and see if it tells you. You may also be able to find out through a dealer for your chassis with your VIN number. Mine had the sticker in the access panel where you would add the fluid.

RE: Aiiison 300MH trany service

I paid $39.95 a gallon for Transynd from the local Allison shop and I think $57 for the filter kit. Napa wanted over $129 for the filters and they did not have Transynd. It might have been $279 total I will look up the receipt.

RE: Aiiison 300MH trany service

I just did this service myself it is actually pretty simple and cost me $179 for filters and oil. I actually got my best price on parts from an authorized dealer for Allison. I called a Freightliner shop they told me it would cost between $200 and $800 I figured since they could nail it down any closer than that I would do it myself. There is a good youtube video about it. If you can change your own oil you can do this. I was a mechanic years ago so it was no big deal but I have to say anyone with the skill to change their own motor oil can do this it was the easiest transmission I ever serviced. It just takes a bunch of oil 19 quarts. I bought a brand new oil pan that holds 9 gallons and has wheels to move it under the MH and pull it out. The oil drain pan has a ball valve in the bottom to drain the oil into containers to get rid of it. Allison 3000 oil change

RE: Ran out of 12 DC @ 3 AM 1st night.

After the batteries went to 9 volts and I ran the generator for 3 hours they read 12.6 volts. I don't think they are gone but they are definitely not great. I have been charging them for 2 days now after adding the water so I will just have to see. I haven't had time to mess with it again. If the batteries are junk come spring I will replace them. Should have read 13.5 or so. Batteries are going down. Carbon leak down test for reg auto batteries should work for house batteries. What that does is place a load on the batteries to see if it will carry them or go down quickly. Did thee Salesman say replaced recently, like since he was born? I did not buy it from a dealer I bought it private party. I believe they are fairly new but they were not maintained. These batteries have no date codes that I can find so who knows.

RE: Ran out of 12 DC @ 3 AM 1st night.

I could wire in a 12 volt plug easy enough but if I remember right the heater on the CPAP doesn't work on 12 volt power but I could be mistaken I know my last CPAP was that way. The wife says she wants to go to the coast for Thanksgiving I gave her that look I just winterized it yesterday but I am always up for a trip so it looks like I will un-winterize it. We found a pretty swanky place Pacific Shores Motorcoach resort spendy but looks like a really nice place. I have never heard of a pro fill watering system I will look into that.
