RE: High end gasser or entry level DP

We’ve had both. DP is certainly nicer to drive, because of the quiet and the air ride. Maintenance is significantly more complex and expensive. Advantage DP during the driving portion of your travels. The quality of the house is what matters during the parked portion of your stays. Things like insulation, dual pane windows, ducted air and better materials and cabinetry make living in it a more pleasant experience. Advantage for better brands like Newmar or Tiffin (whether gas or diesel) vs most of the lower tier brands. Spend your time touring a bunch of units. Sit inside with the HVAC running and listen to the TV or have a conversation. Look inside the cabinets and bins. And drive them. Only you can decide what features are important for you.

RE: Are the $25K lithium battery systems worth their cost?

Early adopter technology is never good value, but there’s always a segment of the market that will pay the price. Class B in general are poor value IMO compared to other choices, but they fit the need for some people obviously. I could see a case for someone who’s basically transient, and needs cooling when parked.

RE: Modified Sine wave inverter for seldom used microwave

Lots of coach builders are still using MSW. Ours came with one, and the micro worked ok, but it did heat slower and made a buzzing sound not heard on pure sine. I have since replaced it with a PSW but not because of the micro. Be sure your batteries are up to it. Takes about 140 amps current to run our kitchen appliances.

RE: When on inverter power GFCI won't reset

We experienced multiple GFCI false trips and refusals to reset with a Magnum MSW inverter. All original by the coach builder, and obviously it can work for many people. I did some research and turned up a white paper by a maker of GFCI outlets stating there were known compatibility issues with MSW. Our inverter was replaced under warranty with a PSW, no problem since. And the microwave heats faster on PSW as well.

RE: Any one else afraid to travel right now ?

Motels? NO WAY JOSE. My 5'er is the safest place to sleep, other than my home. My wife, a retired L&D RNC will not allow us to venture far right now. I want badly to drive to Phoenix to see some of the grandkids (800 miles). No way she'll let me go right now. Arizona's covid19 rate is still on the rise. Florida? It's gonna get REALLY bad there because of the way they are treating this thing. Horsefeathers. Florida hospitals are under utilized, there’s no model even showing a resource shortage (and we know now how pessimistic those bogus models are). There’s no correlation either to demonstrate that states with more restrictions experience less infection.

RE: What To Tow?

What is your towing capacity? I prefer to drive a 4x4 myself, so it’s easy for me to find something. I just buy what I like to drive and then tow it. Not so easy for people who like cars. You could get a used CRV or similar. If you have no experience motorcycling off road let me caution you it’s whole different skill than road riding and for the most part road bikes suck off road and vice versa. Motorhome magazine publishes a list of towable cars every year and you can see the older lists on their website.

RE: Kirkland Signature synthetic 5W/30 ??

Warren Oil Company makes it, also Walmart and Amazon house branded oil. They all get excellent reviews from testing and comparisons.

RE: And Texas Caves In

16 million unemployed on record And that’s without the millions more like the lady in the article who has tried 1,200 times and failed to get through the unemployment filing website. Models are not accurate Decisions have been made using faulty assumptions and bad science. Instead of a one hour news program with doctors doing all the talking, let’s hear from some economists. The local sheriff here in the last week put up one of those mobile electronic signs on the highway into our community. “Lock your doors”. Doesn’t take a crystal ball to see where this road goes.

RE: CDC and the government may be loosening the lockdown

“ If Your Only Tool Is a Hammer Then Every Problem Looks Like a Nail” Sort of like epidemiologists and quarantines. This agenda is driven by the large cities that have a problem because of international travel compounded by multi story buildings with many small shared spaces like elevators and entrances. Small town America was never going to experience what NYC did. But if too many people come to that realization, well, the shine is gone from the apple. Plays havoc with the agenda that everyone should desert the small towns and suburbs and move to metropolis.

RE: CDC and the government may be loosening the lockdown

the new infection and admission rate is going down. The RATE is going down SLIGHTLY. But the number of new infections, new hospital admission, new positive test, new deaths is still going up every day, and will for two or three more weeks. That is the flattening of the curve they talked about. But until the numbers are actually declining, it will be very easy to loosen the safe distancing guidelines and start the rates going back up. Yes. All it takes is a few dummies to start the rise of the curb again. It sounds like there are a lot of people here that are will to put my life at risk so they can have a little fun. Stay put and this will end sooner. It really is that simple. No, it’s not that simple. Apparently you’re willing to put at risk the lives of those with no income and bills to pay. Two trillion dollars already and after less than two weeks they’re already asking for more. The current situation is not sustainable. Restaurant workers are not asking for “fun”. The news is just beginning to report the uptrend in drugs, domestic violence, drinking etc. And it won’t end until most are immune. The current measures extend the duration of the problem to reduce the resource demand. Nothing in that will make it “end sooner” like you claim.

RE: And Texas Caves In

Well over 300,000 cases with almost 12,000 deaths in the US, and you think Texas is wrong for trying to protect people who are too stupid to take common sense precautions on their own? Stupid are the people who jumped on the "stay at home" bandwagon without thinking about the secondary effects of their plan. There is going to be huge unemployment from this and some people will turn to alcohol and other drugs and some will die. But you don't care about them. You will trade their lives for the 1% who might die from this virus. And you think you are compassionate. It's not even close to 1%. Even the totally pessimistic, constantly updating models from IMHE are only "predicting" 0.025% (less than 3 hundredths of 1 percent). All of the doom and gloom predictions of death rate have done nothing but go down and down with "better data". The data is showing that even NY has passed its peak and on the decline. Texas is WAY too late, as were most every single state issuing these orders. There is literally no point in the action Texas took now. In the end this whole thing will be a big waste of livelihood and economic health. Guess which "recovered" country will come out far ahead in all of this after buying up our crashed stock market? I guess you don't quite understand this "decline". It means, instead of 10,000 daily getting infected DAILY....only 9,000 are. Instead of 100 dying DAILY, only 90 are dying. That's still not good. That's still not a good enough reason to let YOU do whatever it is that satisfies YOU alone. There is a reason why these rules are put in place. That reason is to make it safe for YOU. YOU can limit your exposure all YOU want to. YOU don’t need government approval or anyone’s permission. Go right ahead. Just stop with the hysteria that we’re all going kill each other. Texas is nothing like NYC in geography, cultural behavior, or climate. Some of us don’t believe one cure fits all. And the cure is already worse than the disease. Some fail to comprehend that an economic depression will destroy more lives than this virus ever will.

RE: Should/will Glacier, Teton and Yellowstone open?

Put 100 people out of work and how many premature deaths result from that?I hear that, but these are tough times requiring even tougher decisions. I know I wouldn't want to be making them. Amazing how we think we are going to die if the rat race stops for a few months. Easy to say for most of us, who are often retired and able to afford luxuries like an RV. I guess you don’t know many of those average citizens that live paycheck to paycheck and don’t have the financial resources to even pay for a minor emergency of a few hundred dollars. It’s a mistake to believe unemployment is hurting the wealthy. It’s the poor and the middle class with a big mortgage that will feel the pain.

RE: Should/will Glacier, Teton and Yellowstone open?

As of this date 7,xxx deaths and 7xx,xxx unemployed. The first is a trailing indicator of what happened weeks ago. The second is a leading indicator as the unemployment filing systems have been completely overwhelmed and many more are out of work and have not filed. Put 100 people out of work and how many premature deaths result from that?

RE: Should/will Glacier, Teton and Yellowstone open?

Everything should open. We’re trading a few weeks of intense pain for years of economic depression worse than anything in our nation’s history.

RE: No Corona

Dang the Corona brewery is stoping production! Now we have to drink more Tequila, Mezcal and pulque, such is life at the moment. navegator Not funny. Having 2 daughters working on the front lines (nurses), I have to ask the moderator to remove this insensitive comment. Someone from California without a sense of humor- shocking! I want to say I -and I’m sure many others as well- appreciate all the hard times the health care workers are enduring. There’s a lot of others suffering from economic hardship or illness too. That said, wear sackcloth and ashes if you want to. Not everyone is buying into the hysteria and they’re entitled to speak as well. Someday, something will kill me. But between now and then I’m not going to live in fear.

RE: Water pump warning... a little long but may be worth it

Never understood 'quick connections' on an RV water pump. Just have many times do you need to remove/replace one that it needs quick disconnects ??????? That’s how you incentivize people to buy the same brand of pump again to avoid changing the connections.

RE: 20 year loan for RV?

A friend of mine was telling me that I can get a 20 year loan on most new RVs. Is this true? Now I realize how people afford those Class A RVs. That’s not how people with class A’s can afford them. More likely for someone who bought a TT from Camping World to be in financial stress than the person with a DP. There’s an old saying that banks like to loan money to people who don’t need it. It’s also true that people who have money are likely to use other people’s money when the numbers favor it.
