RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Just decided we are going to Hilton Head after Christmas. Don't care how good or bad the eye sight is we are going. So if you happen to be on the road between Piedmont and Hilton Head and you see us coming down the road give me lots and lots of room. I'LL do the same for you.

Do any of you rember Sue Bray from the Good Sam club. She was instrumental in me being named the first Good Sam RVer of the year and presented me with the award on stage at the Rally in Albuquerque. She had just arrived in New Zealand when the Volcano exploded. Haven't heard from her since. She was on a vacation trip that has been going on for almost a year. She and her husband had been camping and posting on Facebook Book. Maybe some of you have seen her postings. Anyway I am worried about her and her husband and grandchild that was with them . I am assuming the child is a grandchild. But do not know that for a fact. Hope she is well.

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Good morning everyone. Burch at least you made it home safe. I stopped traveling by air years ago when our flight from Augusta, Georgia to Michigan was canceled and we had to scramble to make connections for another flight. WE ended up going to Charlotte to Cincinnati then to Grand Rapids. When we got to Cincinnati we discovered Sue had two tickets and I had none, It took two hours to straighten out the mess before we could go on to Michigan. We were treated like terrorist when we tried to board the plane because we had changed flights. We were searched and all ofour carry on luggage was searched and we were asked so many questions concerning our changing flights and why. I told Sue I was done with flying and I have stuck with it. So Burch it looks as if you are building a case for yourself as a reason not to fly any where. Its 59 degrees outside this morning and raining. Tomorrow it will be cold and north of us there will be wintery mix of rain snow and sleet. Still have lots of firewood so no matter what we will be able to stay warm. Okay I need to get moving so I will close for now wishing everyone a blessed day. Be sure to give the fur babies a hug for me and be sure to tell someone you love them. Merry Christmas to you and your families

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Good evening everyone we lost power this morning and was without for six hours. The fire place heated the house so we were comfortable. No water because we have a well which requires electricity to pump water. But we managed. It was rainy all day and cool as the temperature stayed in the mid 40's. The girls didn't want to go outside as they were satisfied to stay dry and warm in he house. I watched the CMA awards last night and remembered my days in Nashville. I remember the days of Glenn Campbell and Tanya Tucker. They were so much in love and crazy on top of that. Willie Nelson and Mel Gibson were around a lot. I used to see Mel at eth Hall Of fame hotel where he would sometime go just to hang out. Jimmy Dean was a frequent attender there also. I was too busy trying to break into the business to party much, so I kind of hung out by myself. I saved myself from getting into trouble and saved money. This were some exciting days with GRT Records and JOhn Bateman. There are gone now and I have landed on my feet doing what God intended me to do. Okay I am going to bed so I will close for now wishing everyone a blessed evening. Give the fur babies a hug for me and be sure to say your ptayers before falling to sleep.

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Good morning everyone. THis weekend has been nice as far as weather., however starting tonight we will see lots of rain and old weather coming in. So I guess we will settle down inside the house with a fire in the fireplace and enjoy the season of Christmas. So glad to be able to be here with family and friends. Watched football yesterday. I knew LSU would beat Georgia, I was surprised to see Ohio State struggling with Wisconsin. When I went to bed Ohio State had taken the lead. I haven't seen the final score this morning so I hope Ohio did hang on and win. I just check to see what the final score was and saw where Ohio State won. Okay I need to get moving so I will close for now wishing you a blessed day. Be sure to give the fur babies a hug for me and be sure to tell someone you love them

Good morning everyone. Burch enjoy your flight, hope you have a good time in Boston. The weather here is nice and clear, a bit on the cold side. but not that bad. My eye sight is good this morning. Sue is out with the girls for a walk. I have a visit to make this morning. Harold Raines wife passed away yesterday. Harold is 93 years old. HIs wife was close to ninety I think. Anyway I am deacon of the week so I have to take coffee and drinks over to his house and make ready for visitors. Harold is going to be lost with his wife. They have been together many years. Just how many I don't know. but I think somewhere around sixty. I am lost right now as I feel as if I am a burden to Sue. She has had to take care of me for many months now. well since July. I can see she getting worn down with all that is going on. But she will not rest. She has to be doing something or going somewhere all the time. She can't be still, Just not in her DNA. Okay I need to get moving so I will close for now wishing everyone a blessed day. Be sure to give the fur babies a hug for me and be sure to tell someone you love them.

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Good morning everyone. Got to keep this short. It's cold this morning and c loudy as if rain is about to start. Last night before going to bed I looked out on the front porch and there was an opossum eating the cat's food. This one was very young almost a baby. The other one is an adult, big and far. The cats don't like it and hide whenever it comes around, The kitties have stopped using the cat house I put out there for them. I guess they feel threatened and not safe being in there with the opossum around. Anyway I don't know what to do except pit a live trap put for the opossum and then the cats will get into it and I don't want that. I am nor into shooting them as they are not hurting anything and they actually do some good. Okay I need to get moving so I will close for now wishing everyone a blessed day be sure to to give the fur babies a hug for me and be sure to tell someone you love them.

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Good morning everyone. The eye sight is getting better. I have an appointment this morning with the eye doctor so we will find out what is going on. The fur gang is well and Allison's cat broke her leg somehow. Allison said she heard a loud noise coming from the bedroom where the cat was and after that the cat came out of the room on three legs. It was the large bone in the upper part of the leg that was broken. The vet said it was a clean break that required surgery and a cast. Anyway Olive is now wearing a cast after the surgery and seems to be doing okay. Still don't know what happened. Oaky I need to get moving so I will close for now wishing everyone a blessed day. Be sure to give the fur babies a hug for me and be sure to tell someone you love them. No bad weather in the forecast, just some rain showers Sunday and Monday with much cooler temps. Merry Christmas.

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Good evening everyone. It's been a lazy day. The weather wasn't bad, just a little on the cold side, but a nice fire in the fireplace kept the house warm. It's bed time so I am going to call it a day, put the fur babies to bed and then myself. Walter I am glad you mentioned your German ancestry. It has been a long time since I have seen the person I mentioned. But I am betting you and he are related. He always wore a navy officers hat and I believe I saw him in an officer's jacket one time while he visited the Rosen's home. He was about sixty years old at that time, He must have been six feet tall or a little taller, slight build with white hair cut close and a white beard with blue eye. I remember him so well. His looks demanded attention. He had a deep laugh and was always busy doing something. He helped out in the kitchen with whatever needed doing and was so handy with the cooking. He could carve a chicken or turkey before you could take your could take your coat off. I wish I could remember his name, It was German nothing like Joe or Harry. It was like two last names put together. Anyway that's all I can remember about him. Okay I am going to bed. Have a good nigh rest and have a blessed day tomorrow.

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Good morning everyone. It's a beautiful morning her in the Deep South. My sight is so much better today. Looking forward to Christmas and the gathering of the family. This year is going to be special as we anticipate the arrival of the first great grand baby. What a blessing this is going to be. the generations come together like a link in a chain. Each link represents a life and as the years press on new links are added to the chain until generations are liked together to make on long chain. I think back to all of my ancestors and the life they lived in making my life what it is today. It's amazing how each life adds to another's life and continues to buid and link together until we have these families that are so interconnected and entwined into each other. On y Dad's side og the family they were mostly farmers and livestock brokers. My mother's side of the family help build Waycross, Georgia and develop farms in the great okefenokee swamp. Granpa did what his dad did before him. Live off the land and made moonshine before turning to God and becoming a preacher. My Dad continued on as a car dealer as did my brother. I turned away from that to become a pastor of churches and a believer in the Gospel. MY son will continue in industrial construction with large heavy equipment. My first daughter has married a preacher while two of our daughters have become home makers and mentors to their children and grandchildren. Enough of this I need to get moving so I will close for now wishing everyone a blessed ay. Be sure to give the fur babies a hug for me and be sure to tell someone you love them. I guess my legacy will go to the dogs through the Old Fella Burke County Animal Rescue.

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Good morning everyone. Today has been a good day so far. I can read the computer screen and see what I am typing. It's cold outside with frost on the ground, but plenty of sunshine is burning it off. Just north of us sbpw fall was in their day's events/ WE won't see any of the white stuff according to our weather person. So far we are marching on toward Christmas with lots of hope and joy. It's strange that I have been thinking of a childhood even that included my parents and a friend of theirs. What I accepted as normal back then has raised questions in my mind lately. Just who were these people and what happened to them over the years. All I remember is their last name was Rosen and my folks would visit them at their home just outside of Waynesboro. This was back in the late 40's and early 50's. Mr/ Rosen looked just like the comedian Phil Harris. He used to fo some fo the jokes and act like him at times. There was a friend from Germany who would also be there to participate in the activities. As stated before in another post he and Walter are look a likes. I was about ten years old or maybe eleven or twelve years old at the time. but there was something about these friends that struck a memory nerve in my brain that I remember them so vividly. Anyway that was long ago and now far away. Walter you may be a ghost from my past as you remind me so much of him. Truly you can't look so much like a person and not be related in some way, it's mind boggling at times Okay I need to get moving so I will close for now wishing everyone a blessed day. Be sure to give the fur babies a hug for me and be sure to tell someone you love them.

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Walter I have to ask you this question. Is there any German DNA in your history? Just something wild came into my mind that perhaps some of your family were of German descent. Not that it matters, but just wondering. You remind me of someone I used to know that was from Germany. He was a very smart man and quick wit with a quick sense of dry humor. MY mom thought he was a handsome devil with his white beard and lean statue. He smoked a pipe and I can still smell the odor of the tobacco he used. When he walked into a room all attention went to him. He missed the war as he escaped from Germany before Hitler began his campaign. He had some rank in the German military. I think he was in the navy and according to him saw what was happening in Germany and didn't want tp be a part of it and made his way to France before coming to the United States. He was interesting to talk with. Even as a kid I listened to his stories with awe and could not imagine all that he went through getting out of Germany. He was always looking over his shoulder d=for someone coming to take him back to Germany against his will. Interesting story. He kept a low profile in our city of Waynesboro. He felt safe there as if in a small town he could live the life he wanted without interference. Anyway that's my story for the morning.

Righyt now we are watching the weather report and just up the road from us in Asheville, NC they are getting heavy snow. It is about 18 to 39 degrees difference between here and there. It is very cloudy here at 43 degrees. It looks as if something is about to happen, rain, snow or something. but the temperature is not cold enough for snow. Sue just let with the girls for their morning walk. BTW my sight is much better this morning. Well here comes Sue with Dixie and Suzie in from their walk. Okay I need to get moving so I will close for now wishing everyone a blessed day. Be sure to give the fur babies a hug for me and be sure to tell someone you love them. Merry Christmas.

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Good morning everyone. Well the weather man says we will get snow starting tonight an lots of it. Right now we are at 53 degrees but expect the temperature will start dropping during the day and we will see winter weather sometime late this afternoon and all of next week we will be cold here in the Deep South. I guess I will be hauling more firewood up to the house today. I love the fireplace, The nice warm glow from the burning embers late in the evening make it so nice. Okay I need to get moving so I will close for now wishing everyone a blessed day. Be sure to give the fur babies a hug for me and be sure to tell someone you love them. Merry Christmas and enjoy your family MY sight is blurry this morning so I am having a hard time typing, so excuse any mistakes you see in the post. Driving is defiantly a non,no. Had a deacon's meeting this morning at church I had to skip. OH well maybe it will get better eventually/

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Good morning everyone. Thanksgiving is over and now we look forward to Christmas. So far all is well and we really enjoyed Thanksgiving with family. The weather isn't bad, but we are expecting a cold front to come in this weekend and change things up a bit. Snow is in the forecast for the upper region, but none for us, just a cold wave with some sprinkles or showers. I will haul in more firewood for the fire place and just settle down inside and enjoy the warmth of the fireplace. Sue says we will finish decorating the Christmas tree today. so the kitty will have a good time hiding inside the tree play with the ornaments as we hang them. Izzie would come to life as we placed the ornaments on the Christmas tree. Miss that cat. For seventeen years he was ever present in our lives. Allison called to day her cat is sick and would like for Sue to come over and take a look to see if she could give sme advice on whether or not to take her to the vet. I am sure all the vets are closed for the holidays so the Pet er will be the only place to go. the cost of that visit will be huge. Okay I need to get moving so I will close for now wishing everyone a blessed day. Be sure to give the fur babies a hug for me and be sure to tell someone you love them. Merry Christmas everyone.

Good morning everyone. Thanksgiving was a blast. Great food. company over to share the season with, got the Christmas tree up. all is well at Camp Dixie. Now comes Christmas. My favorite time of the year. I hope this year finds you well and happy. Time marches on and with it comes changes, some of which we don't like. some of it can't be helped and some og it pure joy. At 78 years old I am glad to be a part of the family still breathing and enjoying life. It has been a year of looking back at the past and looking forward to the future as we expect a great grand baby in December and our granddaughter Holly will be getting married in April. I will be doing the ceremony so this marks another event that I have been able to participate in with the grandchildren. I have will have done the wedding ceremonies for all three of the children, now that's a milestone mark don't you think? Listening to the weatherman he is calling for snow next week in the upper north of the area. Asheville and the upper levels of the mountains. none for us in the upstate. Sue has gone to the church to help decorate for Christmas. Okay I need to get moving so I will close for now wishing everyone a blessed day. Be sure to give the fur babies a hug for me andbe sure to tell someone you love them/
