RE: Satellite system for motor home

On our last camping trip of the season for two weeks we went without our DirecTV system ($60 per month) and settled for movies from Amazon and Netflix thru our smart TV and Hotspot from Verizon to get the wifi signal. Campgrounds usually don't like streaming movies thru their wifi system. We somehow did without ESPN etc. that would have available from DirecTV. Just sayin'.

RE: Where in Western MI with 3 tweens/teens

How about a boat trip thru the Soo Locks. Holland MI beach. Also do a Google search for `______ tourism' and put the state, town or area in the blank space. Good luck finding something to do for teens for 8 days anywhere at anytime.

RE: New to the forum, new to TT's as well

If you have a question the chances are it has already been discussed so do a search before asking. It's not as much fun as seeing answers pour in to your questions but it might get you answers more quickly.

RE: Hot water tank not working on 110 VAC

I had some power wiring burn out near the switch at the heater so it's not always the element that does not work.

RE: Places To dine

I do a Google search for `________ restaurants' and put the desired location in the blank space. Then take your pick and check out the reviews. When we travel we like the `home cooking' places usually family run.

RE: Fresh Water Tank Drain

My drain is within reach from the side of the rig and is a quarter turn valve which I can turn using a pliers. Crawling under is a pain but one would only have to do it once per year to winterize (in our part of the world).

RE: Slideout Mechanism

My original gear and bar gearbox just died. Looks like it may cost close to $1000 to get it fixed. Just sayin'. BTW I would not select a camper based solely or largely on the slide mechanism. Liveability would be my main criterion.

RE: Tankless Water Heater Compatibility?

Before you spend any money search this Forum for `tankless' and read the previous posts. IMHO a tankless water heater would be a good idea for a park model that never moves BUT never for rv's that move around.

slide would not retract

Well it happened. On our last vacation and the last morning the slide would not retract. The motor ran and there was a grinding noise but the slide didn't move. One of the campground workers determined that the gearbox had broken but we were able to crank the slide in using pipe wrenches on the pinion shaft. Now the challenge is to get a replacement gearbox for our 2003 Sunnybrook travel trailer. But I have until next April. As a famous politician is wont to say `we'll see what happens'.

RE: Window shades?

I like the mini blinds; approx 1 inch wide. They can be washed (although with difficulty). Ours are the original.

RE: Setting the Trailer Brake Controller

Way back when my dealer tested the setting on a gravel driveway. If the controller is set too high the wheels will drag on the gravel. We ended up with a setting of 6.5 which has worked since.

RE: Rv sofa and chairs

Are you sure they will move when traveling. The sofa bed is probably quite heavy and shouldn't move around. Our chairs don't move because they are sitting on carpet.

Campground washroom needs GFCI

I am currently at a very popular campground near Columbia, MO. Their washroom has one outlet next to the sink for hair dryers, etc. As far as I can tell is it not a GFCI probably because when this CG was built such a device was either not available or required. So the questions is should I mention this deficiency to management or let it go?
