RE: Do you tow a Jeep behind your 5th wheel?

By the time you outfit everything for safe towing, you could rent a Jeep for a month probably cheaper Rented a Jeep in Moab for two days, $230.00/day. All I need to do is get a wireless tail light for $100.00 and I'm set. I've already towed the Jeep to Colorado 5 times behind the truck without the 5th wheel. I've towed my boat behind the 5th wheel a couple of times here in Louisiana. We just have a length requirement. I'll do my best to find out what I can in the other states.

Do you tow a Jeep behind your 5th wheel?

I've seen people do this. If you do this what advice would you give me. I am planning a long trip from South Louisiana to Billings Montana next year. I would love to bring my Jeep with me since we will be there for a month or two. I plan on driving maybe 400 miles or less per day. and taking about 2 weeks to get there.

RE: USS Alabama

I slept on that boat when my son was in the boy scouts. Yes lots of parking.

RE: Gulf states and hurricanes?

we go camping during hurricane season all the time. Camped through a Tropical storm one time. Its not like we get hit by a hurricane all the time. Most years we don't get anything.

It’s now open.

RE: Those with auto leveling systems

I don’t worry about the wheels coming off the ground. The frame can handle it.

I-10 westbound Louisiana

I-10 Westbound is closed indefinitely over the Atchafalaya Swamp between Baton Rouge and Lafayette. All westbound traffic is being diverted to Hwy 190.

RE: Towing speed

I like to go around 65 on the Interstates. My main reason is not wanting to change lanes very often. You can usually just stay in your lane and have a relaxing cruise. I don't end the day all stressed out.

RE: 5th wheel lifting bracket

I just use the 5th wheel.......with 5vr hitched I pull the hitch pins and raise it using landing gear legs. Leave it hanging from king pin. Ditto. I just use the camper to pull it off.

RE: My 2008 F-250 (a little rant)

So, they lasted 12 years, and you think they should have gone longer? Its a rubber part, it will eventually dry out and fail. If you got 12 years, I think that pretty good. If you replace it with the OEM replacement, and get another 12, they will probably outlive the rest of the truck. Maybe I stated it wrong, but i"m trying to make the point: I'm gonna have a new truck after all this. With a little heads up to other Ford owners about an immanent problem to look out for. More like an FYI.

RE: My 2008 F-250 (a little rant)

Ex mechanic here-- Please get a 2nd opinion. I smell a rat. PS: I have NEVER heard of body mounts going "bad"!!!! My mechanic is a friend. He showed me the bushings or should I say what’s left of the bushings. This YouTube video shows what they look like and mine are worse.

RE: campground in Gulfport mississippi

We like Gulf State Park in Alabama. The beach there is so much prettier than Gulfport.

RE: November Honeymoon trip suggestions

I would head to Gatlinburg and spend as much time there as you can. You can stay busy for days there. Many hikes in the park, Shopping and Dinner Shows in Pigeon Forge. Dolly World. Rafting(though maybe not in November).

My 2008 F-250 (a little rant)

I've had my truck since November 2007. It is 12 years old. I've had very little trouble with until the last year or so. And this past week was rough. I needed to change my ball joints, tie rod and shocks. The mechanic also told me I need to change my body mount bushings. I should have a brand new truck after this! LOL I keep telling my wife it's still cheeper than buying a new one. Attn Ford owners: The body mount bushing are a design flaw by Ford and they have not corrected the problem. They will fail on you in time. If they do, DO NOT buy the Ford replacement! It is the same thing and domed to fail. Buy a Kevlor after market replacemaent.

RE: Louisiana State Parks

Thanks folks!!! I'll look into those. I also was looking at some campgrounds in Kisatchie National Forest. Lake Kinkaid is a very nice campground in Kisatchie.

RE: Louisiana State Parks

We are planning on driving through Louisiana after staying on Galveston Island in early October. Haven't really picked a route yet, but since we've never camped in Louisiana, wanted to check it off the list. I looked into Jimmie Davis SP and Poverty Point SP. Any other suggestions? Probably a 2 or 3 night stay, thanks. We didn't stay at Poverty Point, but we drove thru it. It didn't impress us. We did stay at Jimmie Davis. And that was a nice park. We enjoyed our stay there. Other nice parks would be: Lake D'Arbonne, Fountainbleau, Chicot, Palmetto Island, and Sam Houston Jones State Parks.

RE: Driving from Albuquerque to Orlando in October

Thanks to all for help. Are all votes for dropping down to I-10? It's a better route? I wouldn't drop down to I-10 in Houston. That would make your trip a lot longer and the Traffic in Houston is terrible. I just drove this route from Albuquerque through Dallas this past weekend. I take 287 to I-35W. Head south to I-20. then East to Shreveport. If you want to drop down to I-10, take I-49 to Lafayette and hit I-10 there. BE WARNED! there is construction from Lafayette to the Basin Bridge. no delays just narrow lanes and rough road. You also have to time your drive through Baton Rouge. Going east you are fine till about 1 or 2pm. after that your will be stuck in very slow moving traffic. Heading west avoid morning rush traffic till about 9 and again it will slow down around 2pm.
