RE: time for a diesel?

Hi, I had a 400ISL on my prior RV, so understand and appreciate diesel engines. We have a 7.3 with 10 speed and 4.30 and it is fine for our 15K fifth wheel. About 10K miles, mostly in California. The tradeoff is 3,500 to 4,000 rpm on hills (perhaps 2% or 3% of towing) versus better operation and ride when not towing (about 45% of miles for us.) I understand why some like diesel engines, but for 15K or less, this is a solid option. Best, Charles

RE: New Super Duty on order

Hi, The 7.3 with the ten speed works fine for me with about 15K fifth wheel. If I were to go larger, I would suggest a diesel, but up to 15K, even with the 3.73, you are fine. Charles

RE: DISCUSSION: 8 ft + crew cab vs. SUV

Changed from a Buick Enclave to an F-250 with long bed. 22 feet long, but able to go into parking ramps and parking lots. Good choice for towing with 48 gallon tank. Yes, when I fill up and pay the CA gas tax, I feel patriotic!

RE: Then what?

The energy density of a battery needs to about double for the 3/4 ton or one ton pickup to be competitive. Perhaps by 2032 or 2035 it will happen. There is worldwide research underway to do that.

RE: Exhaust brake quit working

Lets try this again! Need some help. Cummins 400 isl, spartan chasis 2006 travel supreme. I guess next will be taking it to a tech! First, Brett and Larry know much more about exhaust brakes than I do. That said, when my 2005 400ISL exhaust brake failed after about ten years, on the theory that brakes are important, I replaced it with an upgraded model.
