RE: How to secure storage area while connected to water?

Continuous city water hookup is dangerous IMO. Something pops when your gone and what a mess. Fill your FW tank and use the pump. What do you do at your home? No difference of a busted water lines in the camper or the house.

RE: Nascar Follies

I just hope Labor Day weekend at Darlington stays put now! That is our NASCAR camping weekend. We don't even go to the race. We just go for the environment.

RE: Daunting it's not...rooftop AC replacement

Yep. We replace both of our on our class A our self. $1,100 for both units. Repair shop wanted $4,100 Materials and Labor to replace them. We managed to get them on the roof standing on the side of the service truck and lifting to two people on the RV roof.

RE: Myrtle Beach - Ocean Lakes, Pirateland or Lakewood

I say defiantly no to Piratelane. We love Lakewood. It is about 75% campsites 25% permanent villas condos. You cannot bring your own golf cart to Lakewood, unless you store your camper there of have a permanent site, which means there are WAY less golf carts. You can rent a golf cart, and the kids can enjoy the golf cart cruises still. Ocean Lakes is very nice, but it is WAY to crowded for us in the summer, and you cannot move for the golf carts! We have a golf cart, but would rather rent one at Lakewood than deal with the interstate traffic of Golf Carts from Ocean Lakes Lakewood sites are a little more roomier and you have more shade option than OL. With that being said, we will stay at OL during the off season, but not prime time.

RE: Second AC worth it?

If it is already set up, you can get onw for probably $600-$700 and drop it in yourself. We replaced both of ours our self, with no a/c experience what so ever!

RE: Pipes Burst

The pipes in most RVs are made of PEX.. They don't burst when freeze/thaw happens. Oh the water heater will And the assorted elbows. t's adapters. valves and other fittings may well crack or burst But the pipes. never. PEX will freeze and can burst. I am a plumbers son and it happens quiet often. To answer OP's question, if water is connected and on or pump is on, then potential flooding/water damage. If the pump isn't on or no water connected, just have to dry up the mess when it is discovered and repair the damaged pipe.

RE: It could have went bad!

*Knock on Wood*, I think the worst thing that I done was left the awning rod in the strap. It flopped in the wind and along the side of the motorhome for about 50 miles before I noticed it! Luckily it didn't come off in traffic, which could have ended bad. My uncle was removing his load levelers, and had a piece of steel pipe that he unlatched them with. His phone rang and he went to answer it, after he remove the load level pin, The bar came flying down and gashed the front of his pants and and leg open. He just knew that it cut his "man goods" in two. He went inside and his wife checked, and the bar barely scraped his thigh. That could have ended real bad!

RE: How do I turn off my Dish network

NEVER NEVER NEVER use the word "suspend" ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS use the term " disconnect " or " cancel my service " . If you use the word suspend they will put your account on pause and bill you a $5 monthly fee to maintain the account. If you truly have Pay-AS-You-Go. Just don't pay the next months bill, the account will cancel automtically. this is usually how we do it. but if we find ourselves ready to shut down with more than a few days left in the month we'll call and our unused balance will become a credit on the account. This is good to know that this is an option. Do they credit you monitary wise, or credit with service days? We use pay as you go for Football season and never knew that we could do this.

RE: Space Heater

We have had used a sunbeam fan forced heater for about 5 years, which was great, and had actual temperature settings. I was looking buy another this weekend since we now have the large Class A with 50amp, but they no longer make it. I bought a ceramic heater, and it works no where near as good. I personally like the one with numbered temperature settings so it is easier to adjust instead of just dots.

RE: Broken key, locked out of TT, no spare :(

We had that happen when we had a hybrid, but that was an easy solution. My friend lock their self out of their TT or lost the keys or something. He dropped his 5 years old down through the roof vent.

RE: Campground Theft

KNOCK ON WOOD - we have never had anyone mess with anything in the 25 years that we have been camping. We have been fortunate to not lock and put everything up before leaving either. We may lock the door just depending on where we are. We did have a friend has a Yeti cooler stolen. It had a Gamecock sticker on it. He saw one a few days later in the campground and questioned the owner. He was told a friend gave it to him. He told him about his being stolen, and that he put a mark in a unique spot and asked if he could look. He opened the lid, and sure enough, it was his. Still even had some of his beer in it!

RE: Sewage Follies

That is a strange smelly set up. I couldn't watch. I would be gagging! As far as the honeywagon, we camp at Darlington, SC for the NASCAR race each labor day and have been doing it for 15+ years. The honeywagon comes around sucking out campers. We have also always been concerned about tanks collapsing from it. We were talking to a worker this year that owns the company that has been doing the area we camp in since we have been going. He said he has never seen or personally heard of a tank collapsing, and like he said, if it happened, word would have probably spread fast and they would have been run out of Darlington County for good.

RE: Blackstone Griddle

I have a 36" blackstone at home that we use at least 203 times per week, and a 84"sq Blue Rhino that we take camping and tailgating. Best grills I ever purchased!
