RE: How to keep a TC from being stolen when not on the truck?
I'd be curious to see a reference to this ever happening. I'd wager most thieves would not even know how to load it, let alone have a truck to carry it. There are far easier things to steal.

So if you spend $225 +/- on new batteries and they lasts 5 years, if you spend $700 (3 times as much) on li batteries will they last 15 years (3 times longer) - or be 3 times better?
Yes! in fact more than 3 times longer and better in other ways too. Expect to get 20 years out of them based on charge discharge cycles. Also you can draw them down all the way without damage, so they have effectively double the usable power for the same amp-hour capacity, and they weigh about 1/3 of lead acid. Over life they are far cheaper than lead acid - you just pay more up front.

If the wiring of the plug is standard, the charge wire will already be there. Here is the standard pinout of all 3 types of plugs:
