RE: This cartoon sums it up for Canadians

I understand a little French, but it played no part in my understanding the cartoon and sympathizing with our Canadian Snowbird friends. Hope to see you all next year!

RE: Pandemic issues affecting RV'ing?

Spring? Just an educated guess, but i think things will be back closer to normal by then. Vaccinations for the Wuhan virus should be mostly completed for North America by late spring. I would hope that if you can show that you have had a vaccine, no one would bother you at all. Governmentwise, that is.

RE: Camping in cold temps, bad idea?

Thats what we often do, but we also run the furnace fan on constant to distribute the heat. Our smaller camper didn't require this, but our new camper is 32' long with a slideout. We have young kids now, so we rarely camp in below freezing weather. We usually run the AC fan, which has ducts in the ceiling, since the heat rises. It allows one electric heater to comfortably circulate the air throughout the rear bunk, center living room area and front bedroom. We mainly did it to keep the underbelly(tanks!) a bit warmer in our small TT. I should have included that tidbit.

RE: Wifi in Remote locations

As most of the folks in this thread, i use a cell as a hotspot. But when Starlink comes completely online next year, i anticipate it will revolutionize both internet access and phone usage.

RE: Times Up, Told You So, DirecTV is Dead

At least you got this right: "The thread is entitled Times Up, Told You So, DirecTV is Dead" How is Elon's replacement for DirecTV working for you TODAY?...I will no longer respond to or acknowledge... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! I knew I could get you to respond even tho you claimed you were done with this thread!!! Credibility, indeed. Please let me help you with understanding how the new Starlink system works; I think I can allay your fears. The future of technology is amazing.

RE: New RV delivery walk-through

What I ran into was the fact that even after being shown how to run the TV and radio/DVD/CD/BT, I still can't remember how! Oh, and how to shut off the outside speakers....Now that brings back some memories of my first TT purchase. And the so called Manual was zero help. :)

RE: Camping in cold temps, bad idea?

...Propane will be expensive and I find that the furnace in an RV isn't consistent heat. You'll be blasted out of the bedroom while the main cabin is slower to heat up, then it'll cool off before it blasts you out again. I would recommend a nice electric space heater. Leave your cabinet doors open so that your lines get that warmer air. Electric is free and the thermostats are more precise. You'll be fine, enjoy the trip! Thats what we often do, but we also run the furnace fan on constant to distribute the heat.

RE: Times Up, Told You So, DirecTV is Dead

Bill is even easier, more appropriate and more polite but you don't seem interested in either of the last 2. More interested in them than you are of looking at the Facts in the links i have posted. Believing something because you have chosen to put Satellite in your name doesnt make you an expert on it. More data (in the guise of knowledgeable sources), less opinion supports a position. Or at least try to understand the tech of Starlink. I'd be glad to help you understand any of it youre having trouble with if youd ask. I see you are simply going to continue to insult be so there is no further point trying to have an actual discussion. You appear to be the only one here saying you know it all despite the service not existing as of today (other than the Beta). When the service becomes available we will finally be able to discuss reality and not how the service will work "on paper". Price, speed, hardware, installation, mobility......so many questions. Oh by the way, you may continue your insults but I will no longer respond to or acknowledge your pathetic attempts at degradation in hope of furthering your own self-worth. The thread is entitled Times Up, Told You So, DirecTV is Dead. Speculation as to the reason why led us to one possibility, the looming dominance of orbital internet driven by the same model as cell towers. You denied many aspects that have already been proven by the (small) constellation in orbit. You deny proven speeds that beat your pet ideas of land based hardwired systems. You refuse all offers to help you understand the math of the entire discussion. Sure glad the Musks, Fords, Edisons et al didnt have that attitude. Being entrenched in old tech is a sure way to be left behind. And my offer to help you understand what is happening with Starlink stands. Here, a dedicated thread, or PM. I really think you'll embrace it once you set aside any preconceived notions.

RE: New RV delivery walk-through

All good answers above + I second a shakedown trip as soon as is convenient. Youll prob catch everything you want to change/fix in a weekend, but i'd make it a week at least so as to start enjoying your new RV.

RE: Camping in cold temps, bad idea?

I've camped down to about 20 in a cheap TT with no special extra insulation. It also had a slide which are heat sieves. Took off the water hose at night and ran a ceramic heater in the <20' TT and other than condensation on the windows and a couple of spots in the walls (factory forgot or improperly installed insulation?) all was fine. 27 should be easy imo, but heed the warnings of others here.

RE: Full Time For Six Months

Congratulations on the lifestyle change and Yes I'd like to hear more. I like your writing style as evidenced in the OP and i think that hearing of your experiences as a noob fulltimer while they are still fresh in your mind would be interesting. I'd even suggest a blog might be worthwhile. re disregarding the hive mind here, its not about the Right Answer, its about what works for You.

RE: Times Up, Told You So, DirecTV is Dead

. Posts would be a lot easier to read if links were posted correctly. I agree 100% and apologize for that. For some reason, the site wont let me post hot links. It has been this way since i joined. Perhaps a conflict with my browser settings or something. LOL, looks like billy is getting a bit sensitive. Sincere Apologies to your mother chief, but billy is just easier to type than your entire non de plume. Maybe i should let you off the fact hook if youre going to appeal to mommy.

RE: Food!

Subs are or can be good. We tend to just hit the grocery stores more when on the road since we are on the move anyway and buy lots of fresh stuff. Love the farm community roadside stands too.

RE: Times Up, Told You So, DirecTV is Dead

Again billy, you didnt read the links and are just spouting from the wrong end of a longneck. The latency #s are in the links. I dont help the lazy so if you want to know them, you are going to have to read the Facts for yourself. And you apparently missed the part about faster than the broadband you tout and cherish. And the part about how big the satellite network is going to be lol. I will help you with some math. At the planned launch rate(which they are currently meeting) with the reusable rocket that has launched more than any other in history, GLOBAL coverage can begin in 2Q 2021. It of course Wont be available for those clinging to their hardwired broadband but i wont name any names. And yeah duh Starlink does belong in this thread. One reason DirecTV is dying is the coming replacement by Starlink. Might need a new handle to stay current eh.

RE: Times Up, Told You So, DirecTV is Dead

"... that the tests so far show the network has “super low latency” with download speeds greater than 100 megabits per second. That’s fast enough to stream multiple HD movies at once, and still have bandwidth to spare..." Your broadband good for that kind of speed, bill? I didnt think so. I guess we dont have to wait years afterall! And Oopsie on that ground station thing you griped about: "SpaceX has also begun testing spacecraft with inter-satellite laser links, which could eventually allow data traffic to flow through the network without going through ground relay stations. " “With 1,440 satellites, that’s when we get 24/7 global coverage, and the plan is to not stop there,” Hofeller said. “We’ll continue to launch, and with each launch, we can provide more and more capacity. There’s never enough capacity. You can’t limit what your kids want to watch, and what your family wants to consume. So we’ll continue to densify the network.” I love the future. Quotes source: https://spaceflightnow.com/2020/09/16/spacex-plans-falcon-9-launch-thursday- from-kennedy-space-center/ Oh, and in case you want to watch the latest batch of 60 launch today Thursday at 2.19pm, here's the link: https://www.spacex.com/ (only 60% chance of good weather tho)

RE: Do most parks check/copy your ID? (Victims of ID theft)

Check into any hotel and they will take a copy of your driver's license, too. A visit to any medical professional gets a copy of your driver's license. A visit to many government buildings gets a copy of your driver's license. Boarding an airplane, renting a car, and the list goes on! Not true. Maybe just where you live.

RE: Escaping heat next summer?

My first thought was UP MI. Especially on Lake Superior. Copper Harbor for you hard core cold lovers. But for a month, i dont think you can go wrong touring around the Canadian Rockies. Smokies are too hot and humid in summer imo. If you liked there, youll probably be ok with some warmer places than have been mentioned in the thread already. Or you could go opposite and stay on a beach somewhere, enjoying the cooling ocean breezes and such.

RE: Changes to Snowbird lifestyle and Snowbird communitiess

Maybe I’m missing something here. Can someone explain how DW and I are not to be feared and can fly south, but our truck and trailer present a high health risk? We can rent a place and fly to it, but are to be be feared if we hide out (isolate) in the desert with our truck and trailer. Silly person. Politicians dont have to make sense. ;)
