RE: Low budget furnace thermostat fix -- quick and dirty
Out 5er has a Fantastic fan in the living room, and due to the height it's controlled by a mechanical wall thermostat. The t-stat went bad and the fan wouldn't come on...and I find out that FF no longer makes that t-stat since all the new fans have remote controls! Nobody makes a basic analog cool-only t-stat, so I replaced it with a wall switch!

RE: Are these brake magnets warn?
How is the surface of the magnet? If you run your finger vertically, can you fell pronounced ridges like a ripple potato chip? Also check the inside surface of the drum that the magnet rides against.
If the drums and magnet faces are fairly smooth then I would leave them alone for now. Depending on how many miles you plan to tow this year, you might get another season or two out of those.

RE: Disc Brakes - Saved me $$$$
Having lived on Long Island for many years and towed a 34' TT all around the area, I can tell you that it's impossible not to...if you leave the required space behind the vehicle in front of you, somebody will jump into it. More than likely will proceed to hit the brakes as well. Spend any amount of time on the highways in the NE corridor and it's baffling the stuff that people do.
I've only had 1 incident like that on I-95 just north of Stamford, CT and also was fortunate to stop. Thankfully it wasn't raining that day.
TT was 8500 lbs and I always kept the Prodigy dialed up so that the TT brakes led the truck brakes. For me, changing them out to self-adjusting drum brakes was a big win. It's a sad commentary on the RV industry when you're excited about upgrading the braking technology on your 2008 RV to 1960 standards...
You're absolutely right, though...big, heavy 5ers should come from the factory with disc brakes.

RE: buying RV out of state - what contract to use / other advise
Check with your Dept of Motor Vehicles for procedures on how to handle.
If buying from a private party, they should have the title, and you need to look at it to confirm that the VIN on the title matches the RV, that the title doesn't contain any brands like salvage, rebuilt, etc. and that there are no liens on it.
If there is a lien on it you need to make sure the lien is paid off, don't trust the seller to do it. If NC is a state where the bank holds the title, then you need to talk to the bank and get their process for paying off a lien and releasing a title.
You will pay the seller for the RV, taxes get paid to FL when you register it there. You will need top prepare a bill of sale and get it signed by the seller showing the purchase price, that is the amount you will pay taxes on when you register it. Some states have a specific form that the seller needs to sign.
If it was me, it's at least 2 trips to NC. I would go see the unit, see the title, and write up a bill of sale leaving the seller a deposit. Show on the bill of sale what the deposit was and what you will pay on delivery. Take a photo of the seller's drivers license and be sure the name and address matches the title. If it doesn't he doesn't own the RV.
Make arrangements for how and when you will take delivery, pay the balance to the seller, get the title, etc.
Anybody on the forum in the Jax area that can help this guy?

RE: Buffing out hazing RV
I just finished buffing out the 5er with this 3M Marine Fiberglas Restorer and Wax. I first used this on our TT a few years ago and it lasted a full 2seasons before it started to haze a little. I uses a D/A polisher with medium-light foam pad to apply and then buff off with a cotton terry towel. I usually use a microfiber towel, but there was so much oxidation that I needed the terry towel.
This stuff really brings the lustre back to the fiberglas and also has UV inhibitors to slow the oxidation process.

RE: Slide out seals
Post a pic if you can. If it's a typical dinette/sofa slide, they generally need a forklift to take them out. I had a 13' slide in our TT that I removed solo to replace the floor, but don't know if I would do it again...

I have yet to see anybody make steps that are more comfortable, more convenient and as sturdy as the good old fashioned steel folding steps.
Lantley is correct, these new steps improve the manufacturing process by eliminating the framed step box, they do nothing for us RVers.
The ones that 12V98 has look good also.

I always remind guests that nothing goes in the toilet except what came out of you and the TP on the roll. Anything else goes in the trash. If it's too nasty to leave in the bathroom trash or if you're embarrassed by whatever it is, tie up the plastic grocery bag lining the trash can, put in a fresh bag, and dispose of it elsewhere. Nobody will know what's in it.

I really believe that the reason so many camp in campgrounds within spitting distance of one another is that they are scared to be in the wild alone.... So they congregate on top of each other...
Uh...not quite. Maybe that's true where you live out there in the desert, but here in the more populated areas, you just can't pull off the road and set up camp wherever you like. If there's a spot in the Midwest where you can do that, I'd love to know about it. If I could find a place to camp like that, I'd go out and buy a cordless impact driver to keep the woodpeckers company.
Oh and don't forget the pool...a CG with a nice pool is a winner!

What's up with CGs?
Made a reservation today and immediately got this email from the CG management, with a "Read Receipt Requested":
-----
No abusive, belligerent or loud activity will be allowed.
ANY AND ALL ILLEGAL DRUGS AND/OR SUBSTANCES ARE PROHIBITED. Abuse of this policy
will result in immediate eviction from the campground without refund and
involvement of the local authorities. Anyone causing a disturbance or creating
an unsafe environment will be asked to leave the campground, without a refund.
QUIET TIME IS FROM 10pm to 8am
1.) PARKING:
- ***NO PARKING IN GRASS, PLEASE STAY ON GRAVEL*** Always Enforced
- LIMITED PARKING SPACES - RIDE SHARING ENCOURAGED
- $10 per additional vehicle per night
- All vehicle owners without a vehicle pass posted on the rearview mirror will
be asked to leave without a refund
- If any vehicle does not fit on the GRAVEL PART at your site, use the LIMITED
overflow parking (See Map for Location of Overflow Parking)
2.) VISITORS:
- UPON THEIR ARRIVAL - ALL Visitors must fill out a guest registration and pick
up a vehicle pass from the office and must leave the campground by 10PM.
- $5/person per day (plus $10/extra per/vehicle per/night if staying the night)
- No more than 4 extra visitors and/or 2 extra vehicles assigned to your site
per day
- Visitors will be assigned to your site. Campsite hosts are responsible for
their visitors and the visitors' actions
- All vehicles must have vehicle pass visible on mirror. Without visible pass,
vehicle & owner of vehicle will be asked to leave, no refund given.
3.) FIREWOOD POLICY: IMPORTANT ! ! Always Enforced ! !
- DO NOT BRING ANY WOOD INTO THE PARK. IT IS PROHIBITED
(including pallets, saw mill pieces, etc) due to the ash bore, long horned
beetle or other
insects & infestation creating spreadable tree disease and damage.
!! NOTE: If you do bring in firewood, you will be asked to leave the park,
no refund given !!
- WE HAVE FIREWOOD BUNDLES AVAILABLE AT THE CAMPSTORE FRONT PORCH
(SELF SERVE) $6.00 per bundle.
- TEXT (xxx) xxx-xxxx, include your name, site # and how many bundles you will
be picking up. We add the bundles to your reservation, charge your card on the
day of departure for any remaining balance and send an itemized email receipt.
- Please do not move fire rings.
- Do not burn anything other than firewood or charcoal in fire pits.
4.) PETS:
- 2 WELL-BEHAVED PET MAXIMUM
- If pets are unruly or loud, we may ask you to remove them from the campground
- Must be leashed at all times
- Never left outside unattended
- Must pick up after pets and dispose of waste in proper trash receptacles.
- If children are walking pets, be sure the children know they must pick up
after pets too.
- Pets are not allowed in public buildings, gated pool area, or in the fishing
lake
- CHOWS, DOBERMANS, PIT BULLS, ROTTWEILERS (OR ANY MIX INCLUDING THOSE BREEDS)
are restricted.
Sorry in advance - No exceptions.
5.) BOATS/TRAILERS:
- Please find an alternative for bringing in boats or additional trailers of
any kind.
Our sites do not have space for more than 1 camping unit and 1 vehicle.
6.) CHILDREN under 18 must be supervised by parents/grandparents at all times,
in all public buildings, around the lake and at the pool.
7.) TRASH DISPOSAL:
- All trash must be taken to the dumpsters. Trash bags left on the site at
checkout may incur extra charges.
- You may also incur charges if our staff has to clean trash or cigarette butts
from your site or firepit.
- The dumpsters are noted on your site map in your check-in packet upon your
arrival.
- If a dumpster appears to be too full, please select a different dumpster so
the lids will close completely.
We greatly appreciate your help in maintaining a clean environment for all
campers.
8.) Any TENT will need its own reserved site. No site sharing.
9.) Outdoor Rugs:
- Outdoor rugs can be placed on gravel only. Be aware, this may take up part
of your seating area or parking area, thus having to park in overflow. Please
do not put outdoor rugs down in the grass.
10.) FIREARMS & SAFETY: FIREARMS, BB/PELLET/PAINTBALL GUNS, BOW & ARROWS,
FIREWORKS, AND/OR EXPLOSIVES ARE NOT ALLOWED TO BE USED OR PRACTICED WITH
ANYWHERE ON THE PREMISES. HUNTING OF ANY KIND IS PROHIBITED.
11.) Please leave kiddie pools, GAS golf carts / motorized / battery-operated
/ remote-controlled / drivable toys & devices, scooters & hoover boards at home
due to potential safety hazards.
NO CANCELLATION REFUND DUE TO WEATHER.
- The first night of any Cancelled reservation is a nonrefundable deposit.
- ANY HOLIDAY or SPECIAL CAMPGROUND EVENT WEEKEND: ENTIRE AMOUNT IS
NONREFUNDABLE.
- However, if you contact us at least seven days prior to your reservation, we
can move the reservation 1x within the same season.
Information is subject to change without notice.
This email confirms your reservation. Please contact us if any corrections are
necessary.

Let me say that I have no issue at all complying with any of these rules, they just seem like common sense. These are common CG rules AFAIK.
I'm not sure if this is what CG owners are dealing with these days or if I'm going to hear banjos playing near my site after dark. At least 6 instances of "we will evict you with no refunds given" and not a single "thank you for your business"....
Am I headed to the redneck oasis or is this just the state of RVing in 2022?

Not sure what your point is....my Ram 3500 goes down the road just like that, I wouldn't expect a 5500 to be any different. Did it need aftermarket steering stabilizers?

The page 316 of the owner's manual for the 2022 Escape says ONLY the hybrid can be towed 4-down and it's very easy to do: simply go into the onboard menu and select "Neutral Tow". No other equipment like lube pump or driveshaft disconnect required.
Interesting that hybrid has this feature but the gas-only AWD and FWD versions say no towing ever unless on a full trailer. The hybrid must some sort of transfer case that combines gas and electric power that you can select into a neutral position like on 4WD trucks.
