RE: DirecTV dropping DNS

As of this morning we have lost ABC E and W and CW (no loss in my opinion). All other DNS channels are available.

RE: Neutral lines reversed

I wonder if the equipment is reading that neutral and ground are reversed?

RE: Need new GPS

Google Maps does not require cell service either. You can download the map before you leave and have the entire day's journey setup. However, you do not get live traffic which I find to be the MOST valuable option. No GPS has it without a separate cellular connection and even then I find it to be a pitiful amount of information compared to Google Maps. Even when you do use data, the amount of data used is very minimal. I measured less then 300MB of data used on a 350 mile trip.

RE: Need new GPS

You can do Google Maps/WAZE just fine on a phone (or 2 phones if you and your wife would like to have a good close-up view) as the travel area displayed is only a small portion of the path ahead, even on a large display. The voice commands are excellent and give you plenty of lead time to get into the proper lane and ensure you are at the right intersection. We bought a 10" tablet that we could mount in the middle for both to see but found we were actually happier with a phone mounted close to the driver.

RE: Winegard Trav'ler interfering with Pathway X2?

Did you run a coax directly from the X2 to the receiver to see if that works?

RE: Need new GPS

You really don't need anything more than Google Maps and/or WAZE and a bit of common sense. These are free but common sense must be at users discretion.

RE: Winegard Trav'ler interfering with Pathway X2?

Assuming you disconnected the coax from the Trav'ler to the receiver, there cannot be any conflict caused by the Trav'ler. As mentioned above, you do have to perform a new Check Switch routine on the receiver to be able to use the receiver with a dome.

RE: Shark bites for plumbing

The Shark bite connections are not "yet" 25 YO but my coach is. No leaks. No worries.

RE: Confused and Frustrated

How much experience do you have with camping? Why do you want to chance from your current normal to a new normal? Will you be traveling or just sitting? What kind of budget do you have available to pay for the high cost of camping at sites less than a year? More details will help everyone give you better answers.

RE: Dish satellite antenna

They are designed to be in the sun and the weather and will hold up for years and years, exactly the same as the units designed to be roof mounted. They are made with the same material. If you figure a way to safely mount it (see if a ladder mount might be a possibility) it will be fine.

RE: Shark bites for plumbing

Has anybody use shark bites in their motorhome in the plumbing system And how well are they holding up I just used two of the push on shark bites in the bathroom fixture made the job a lot Easier Just curious how they hold up in a motorhome or trailer They are awesome. Use them and forget about it!

RE: Battery Sales for Memorial Day?

Still a lot more money. It's all about choices. I have not found a price difference to be worthwhile. However, many have. It just depends upon how you camp, how often you are off the grid and how much pain you can bear!

RE: MH models with the fewest slides

Used Prevosts. Tons of non-slide units out there but hard to find a 40' coach. They are also all tag axle unless you go really way back to the 35 footers.

RE: Tragic Death Class A

Happens way too often (if you consider it should never happen). This time I was a witness to the aftermath at an FMCA rally in Perry, GA. He had electric or hydraulic levelers and he took a wheel off, slid under the coach and the jack(s) collapsed while his chest was under the differential. End of story. So dangerous and so avoidable.

timmac is nothing but a troll. Please ignore or he will keep coming back spewing the same nonsense he has been spewing for years!

RE: Full Timer Health Insurance Options

SD used to be a problem as all the affordable plans required you get service in SD to be "in plan" at all. Your resident address is often a make or break decision. We moved from a SD plan to TX to avoid that problem. Soon after our employer offered a health plan so I haven't checked into that in the last few years.

RE: DirecTV dropping DNS

Easy Peasy! $300 in parts and an hour or 2 of labor and you are good to go! Is this true for the SK-SWM3 Traveler? Yes. That's what I have as well and will likely have to make the move to DISH if DTV will not provide DNS to their mobile customers.

RE: DirecTV HD w/ 18 round dish

You will also have to go into the receivers settings and change the setup to SHOW SD/Hide HD channels as, by default, the receiver is setup to NOT show any SD channels if HD is available. A BBC is not required to receive SD programming. The message you are seeing about needing one indicates the settings above are not correct. You can also install a Dual LNB in your 18" antenna. It looks exactly the same but has 2 (dual) outputs allowing to you connect both tuners. You could also add a SWM8 kit with PI29 if you connect a dual LNB and only need 1 coax running into the coach to power both tuners.

RE: need new tires

I suggest you buy R245/70R19.5 (H) at the best price you can find. These days there is very little noticeable difference between the high cost and the low cost tire.

RE: should i raise tires off the ground for long storage

No. Something between the earth and the tires is somewhat beneficial but also not required. Maybe something like plastic or plywood if on dirt.
